Summary: Great Movie, lackluster DVD.
Review: I have to join the chorus of others who deplore putting this out in full frame format. What makes it even worse is that the opening titles are letterboxed; then you go to full frame. The film is barely better than the old tapes, as the print used is lacking in sharpness and color saturation. This is, indeed, a modern classic, arguably Chevy Chase's best film ever, and quite funny to boot. It deserves much, much, MUCH better treatment!

Summary: Likeable movie
Review: This is a likeable, fun movie with likeable characters. Many people will be able to relate to all the travel problems the Griswalds encounter. A few notes about the DVD. The movie is unfortunately in full-screen format, and the bonus features are quite skimpy. I rented this DVD and found the picture quality to be average.

Summary: In the days of the station wagon
Review: I have traveled 8,000 miles back and forth between Oregon and North Carolina before. How can a family have so much bad luck between Chicago and Wally World, not to mention disasterous events like sending your wagon off the edge, Aunt Edna, dog relieving himself on the picnic basket.Great excursion across the U.S. to find out the park is closed. The Griswalds say it's open whether they like it or not.

Review: NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION still stands up as one of the funniest road movies ever made. With a canny script and dead-on performances from the superb ensemble cast, it serves as a cautionary tale for families everywhere how NOT to have the family vacation from hell. Clark and Ellen Griswold (Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo) and their two children (Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall) embark on a huge, life-consuming odyssey, otherwise known as the cross-country trip to Walley World in California. Along the way, they have to contend with a trip to their hillbilly cousins Eddie and Catherine (Randy Quaid and Miriam Flynn) and end up dragging crochety old Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca) along for the ride through Phoenix. Adding insult to injury is the shapely blonde in the red Ferrari (Christie Brinkley) who is following Clark "all the way"... Hilarious all the way. It is indeed painful to watch the hapless Clark fumble his way (Basil Fawlty-style) through the series of disasters that befall him on his vacation. The DVD transfer is wonderful after years of...fuzzed-out video transfers.

Summary: Pretty Funny Movie, Well-Written Screenplay.
Review: Vacation is the perfect movie for a Saturday Afternoon...it's pretty funny, and Chevy Chase is wonderful. The movie seems to overlook it's at times mindless plot...it really works hard...and really does complete the task that it needs to. I didn't care for the Aunt Edna character...but the result for when she dies, is just very very creative. Plus...the film overlooks Randy Quaid's gross character who seems really bad...but goes away quick enough for you to get back on track.

Summary: We've all been there....
Review: Anyone who has ever taken their family on an extended trip in the car will LOVE this film. The basic plot of the film is this: Chevy Chase plays Clark W. Griswald, the patriarch of a sterotypical All-American family (Mom, Dad, one son, one daughter) who decides that this year, he is going to "take the whole tribe cross-country" from their home in Chicago to the Walley World theme park, which is located (surprise!!) in Southern California. You know it's going to be a long trip right from the very beginning, when Clark goes to the car dealership in Chicago to pick up the new family car for the trip. His new car did not come in after all, and his old car gets crushed like a pancake as soon as they turn it in, so they get stuck with a Wagon Queen Family Truckster, which has to be the UGLIEST station wagon ever shown on screen. Things get worse and worse on the way to California. But the trip really starts to go in the toilet when they stop to visit relatives in Coolidge, Kansas, and they get stuck with the task of carrying the grating Aunt Edna (great performance from Imogene Coca) home to Phoenix. Then, of course, she has the poor timing to die when they are almost there. What the family does in order to get her home is one of the highlights of the movie. But that's nothing compared to what happens to her little dog, Dinky. When they finally make it to Walley World and it's closed, Clark has one of the more memorable psychotic episodes in movie history. But, through it all, you can tell that Clark is just trying to give his family a good time, even if it kills them. He's a nut, but he does love his family. I hate to reveal too many of the great bits for those who have not seen the film, but I can't resist listing a few of my favorite moments - (1) When they back out of their garage, and all their luggage gets knocked off the roof. (2) When they wait just a little too long to find a hotel room somewhere in Missouri or Kansas. (3) Getting lost in St. Louis. (4) The cranky bartender in Dodge City. (5) The House of Mud. (6) Clark flipping out during a thunderstorm in Phoenix. (7) The encounters with the Girl in the Red Ferrari (Christie Brinkley's screen debut!) And my personal favorite, the encounter with the Colorado Highway Patrol. There's just not enough good things I can say about this movie. I think anyone will love it, especially those who love to travel. One word of warning, though. There are some bad words, a little nudity, and some other bits in this movie that make it unsuitable for kids. Just bear that in mind, and you will love this film. One final word, though - Coolidge, Kansas is a real city on US 50 in western Kansas, near the Colorado state line. I wonder what they think of this film? I can see the sign at the city limits - "Coolidge, KS - Home of Katherine and Eddie". Poor folks...

Summary: Funny Movie!
Review: National Lampoon's Vacation is a good movie, it is very funny, especially what happens to Aunt Edna. John Candy has a funny cameo as a security guard and Bill Murray's brother Brian Doyle-Murray has a cameo as the clerk in the sleazy motel. Even though I like this movie I prefer Christmas Vacation, and I have never seen European Vacation or Vegas Vacation and I have been told they weren't that funny.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST COMEDYS EVER
Review: This is a very funny movie. Chevy Chase is superb as the Vacation crazed father, and every single other person is graet. Look for a cameo apperance from Eugene Levy in a hilarious scene. I also recommend European, Christmas, and Vegas Vacations. All our funny and feature trademark characters.
