Rating: Summary: Surprisingly Entertaining... Review: Now if I were being true to the rating system this movie may only be worthy of 3 stars but rather than rating it based solely upon its cinematic achievements I opted instead to rate it based upon its entertainment value. The plot in it of itself isn't entirely original, though it does have some contemporary adaptations for a perpetually pleasing storyline. It goes something like this. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy and girl move in together. Love brews, passions rise, and after 9 months or so of cohabitation, in a particularly awkward fashion, boy proposes to girl. Girl, who's since become totally smitten with boy, accepts and embarks on a wedding planning frenzy despite the nay-says of her rather well-to-do family. Their marital bliss is short lived and the reality of married life sets in on the honeymoon which is laden with one disaster after another. The couple copes well to begin, but the chronic, nagging strain of stress tests the strength of their nuptial commitment. After a fire, car wreck, suspicions of infidelity, abbreviated jail sentence, and impromptu cavity search the not-so-happily-ever-after newlyweds agree, not so subtly, to part ways. Boy realizes the error of his ways and succumbs to the overwhelming desire and emotion inside him and delivers heartfelt monologue to recapture the heart of his love. I'll admit, at times the story required a vacation from your disbelief and a romantically open mind, but of the movies in the redefined romantic comedy genre this one speaks well to a young audience and can be appreciated for its bits of novelty. Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy both cast themselves well in the love/hate relationship in which their characters find themselves. They radiate with onscreen chemistry, no doubt a result of their abbreviated, but seemingly intense off screen romance. Their relationship and connection are strong and believable which is essential if any romantic comedy has a prayer of being worth its weight in film. The on location scenes and cinematography were above par as well, while the score did resonate of a little too much mainstream, it did fit the movie well and provided a compliment, not a contrast. All the way around, an enjoyable film with ample doses of romance and comedy.
Rating: Summary: Left a bad taste in our mouths Review: My boyfriend and I are 20 and 19 respectively, which is probably right on for the audience this movie was targeting. While some parts were amusing enough to elicit a chuckle, the flow of the movie was very awkward, the jokes disgustingly predictable, and the screenplay definately left something to be desired. Ashton and Brittany were stellar actors that will probably wince later on at the sight of this movie on their résumés. While it is honest and to-the-point, it's certainly not a movie to rent and snuggle on the couch with, much less buy. Wait till it shows on HBO, guys, you're not missing much.
Rating: Summary: Good movie, but not the best Review: This was a really fun movie, although i have to say i was expecting more from them than that. But i did like it and i would give it a watch again if it was on. I dont know, maybe you have to see it twice to really like it...or maybe not
Rating: Summary: A sad, sad, sad excuse for a movie Review: I'm not sure what's more pathetic: the fact that this film got made in the first place or the fact that so many people have rated it so highly. This is a sad, sad, sad excuse for a movie. Has today's movie-going audience really been dumbed down to the point where they consider anything in this movie funny? I sat down not expecting much from this film but at least expecting something I could smile at every now and then. Instead I was subject to 1:37 minutes of what could, at best, be described as dull. If I wanted to kill this many brain cells in such a short period of time I'd start drinking again.
Rating: Summary: very sweet and funny movie Review: this was just a nice movie to watch and relax and have a good laugh. there were many funny parts and the acting was good by all i thought. i liked the car they rented in france it was funny. this is a movie for young and old and everybody that wants to laugh.
Rating: Summary: Take Me For What I Am Review: Really great acting. The story is what it is and as long as you take it for that it's a hilarious movie! If you're looking for something more refined, why would you get a movie with the guy from That 70's Show? That's like watching JOE MILLIONAIRE & expecting MASTERPIECE THEATRE. The commentary is very funny [like watching MST3K] & also shows you how much thought was put into something seemingly simplistic. Also, you need to watch the Comedy Central REEL Comedy Special on the full screen side. The chemistry is incredible between Kutcher & Murphy--even watching the specials--it's harder to believe that they're not in love. BOTTOM LINE: We love this movie for what it is: good fun: don't overanalyze it. [Oh--and Mr. One Star--Kutcher did not star in DOWN TO YOU--Freddie Prinze, Jr. did]
Rating: Summary: Funny! Review: Although I do think our leading man is cute, I didn't go see this because of him. I wanted something light and silly to watch and maybe laugh a little. This movie delivered. There is enough actual funny moments mixed in with the so-stupid-you-have-to-laugh humour to make it enjoyable for everyone. The actors actually were much above my expectations and the characters were likeable people, a couple you came to know and hope that their romance worked out. All in all - a great flick!
Rating: Summary: Anyone under 16 will enjoy this Review: If you have the brain capacity of a squirrel, which most people who gave this more than 1 star. Then you will enjoy this horrible movie. There wasnt anything funny about this movie except when I handed my $5 to the guy at Hollywood video.
