Summary: O. Henry Revisited
Review: Think " The Ransom Of Red Chief " and then time warp to the glitzy 80's. A sleazoid husband and a spoiled, tacky, self indulged wife are the pivotal characters in this very funny farce. Throw in the requisite mistress and a few other characters who wander between confusin and total befuddlement and you have the makings for a laugh-out-loud fun fest. Midler and Devito are a matched set and a wonder to watch. Highly recommended for madcap viewing.

Summary: Ruthless People: Starring Better Midler and Danny DeVito
Review: This comedy is hilarious, allthough it's not well-known, it should be a classic! The only flaw is, some of the lines and jokes are so catchy, it's just not funny anymore after you've seen it once, or before you have time to forget it.

Summary: THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This is one genius of a movie. It is hysterical. There isn't ONE dull moment in it. And everybody in it was so great. Danny DeVito was superb as the money hungry tycoon, Sam Stone. Judge Reinhold and Helen Slater bounced off each other perfectly. Bette Midler is always sensational. And you can't forget Anita Morris and Bill Pullman. I love when Judge Reinhold gets hit in the face with a can (God, that hurts!). And who could forget him dressed up as a clown! Bill Pullman was "the stupidest person on the face of the earth." I wont give any more of this film away, for those of you who haven't seen it. But let me assure you, if you haven't seen it, you are in for a HUGE SURPRISE!! This is what every comedy should be like. "You don't die right away. You kinda just...hang on."

Summary: DeVito and Midler are smashingly funny
Review: This is one of three extremely successful comedies Midler did for Disney/Touchstone in the mid-80s. The others were "Outrageous Fortune" and "Down and Out in Beverly Hills". All are recommended.

Black humor drives "Ruthless People", except for an unnecessarily upbeat ending, which, fortunately, is only a couple of minutes long

A ruthless business man [DeVito] is planning to murder his fat, loud-mouthed and extremely rich wife [Midler]. Before he can do so, she is kidnapped by young couple from whom he stole a money-making fashion idea. When they demand $500,000 ransom, he refuses, assuming they will carry out their threat to kill the unwwanted spuse. This is but the first of a series of increasingly bizarre complications that will plague everyone concerned.

DeVito and Midler completely dominate the movie, though they are actually in only one scene together. Behind the camera was the team who made 'Airplane" and "The Naked Gun'. It appears that they specifically tailored the movie for the two stars, who both give 'career highlight' performances.

The movie is a satire of the Me Generation, as well as of yuppie scum. It is one of the great comedies of its time. It now seems just a wee bit dated, but this often happens to even the best movies in this genre. Still, it remains twice as funny as most comedies being made today.

Summary: A Great 1986 Film, But doesn't deserve an "R" rating!
Review: This movie is honestly a great 1986 film! Judge Reinhold, Danny Devito, and Bette Midler played wonderful roles and colourful roles in this wonderful 80's film! Poor Danny Devito must pay a Ransom to release his the wife he hates to death to 2 robbers! This film has lots of surprises, so keep watching!

This film is rated R, but doesn't deserve an R rating because there was nothing serious in it

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Ruthless People-best comedy of 1986
Review: This movie should have won (or have been nominated) for best comedy of 1986. If you don't already know, it's got an ensamble cast- Bette Midler, Danny DeVito, Judge Reinhold, and Helen Slater, among MANY others, including Bill Pullman.

Sam Stone, a VERY ruthless business man, comes home to find out his wife has been kidnapped--right when he's about to murder her! Well the "kidnappers" tell him if he notify's the media or the police, his wife will be killed. But within minuets of the phone call, Sam begins to call all of the precints and news channels he knows of. But the kidnappers, Ken and Sandy Kessler, finnaly realize that they aren't kidnappers, and cannot kill Barbra Stone. They finnaly think up a scheme to get back at Sam, after Barbra finds out he was sleeping with another woman. Extremely witty script from Dale Launer (My Cousin Vinny) and great direction from Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker (Naked Gun, Airplane.) keeps it going till the very end. And it's about time Touchstone re-released this on DVD and VHS. Hopefully the dvd won't be as medicore as their previous releases. Like this one? Check out Tin Men and Down and Out in Beverly Hills

Summary: Greedy people
Review: This movie was a product of it's time, being the 80's when greed was good and indulgence was in abundance. At the centre of this film is Sam Stone, a man who 15 years ago married a plain and overweight woman. She also happens to be heiress to a multi-million dollar fortune. Sam is tired of living with her and all of her disgusting habits, so he confides in his mistress (yes, that's right, his MISTRESS) that he plans to kill his rich wife and inherit her money. Unknown to Sam his wife has been kidnapped by a nice young couple who Sam ripped off recently. Rather than go through a long expensive lawsuit, which they would probably lose anyway, this couple decide to get rich quick by this means. But the naive couple don't realise that they have done Sam a big favour because when they threaten to kill her if he doesn't pay the ransom, or if he calls the police and media he thinks they're serious. So Sam breaks out the champagne and practices ther role of the bereaved widower. In the meantime, the 'kidnappers' are at a loss to understand why he heasn't paid the ransom.
There are many other twists and turns in this movie, but many will be heartened that sometimes nice guys can win and that nasty people get their comeuppance.

Summary: Vicious, cold-blooded comedy!
Review: What does a rich man do when he hates his wife but knows she'll take him to the cleaners, or worse, if he divorces her? Danny DeVito decides to arrange for Bette Midler's kidnapping, then refuses to pay the ransom. The kidnappers don't want her, and DeVito doesn't want her back! Who gets stuck with her? THE RANSOM OF RED CHIEF goes Hollywood in this truly ruthless comedy that helped DeVito and Midler become stars on the Big Screen. Lots of laughs, but don't see it with one you love; it might give him/her ideas!

*da dolphin boy thought sharks were mean and nasty*
