Summary: Hail Marty Moose!
Review: Anyone who has ever embarked on a "Vacation from Hell" can and will readily identify with this hilarious film. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION introduces the Griswold clan, headed by lovable-but-unlucky Clark (Chevy Chase), who takes his wife and two children cross-country for a dream vacation at Wallyworld. Problem is, the Griswolds encounter one disaster after another during their trek, from getting lost in East St. Louis to leaving a recently-deceased relative propped up in a lawn chair.

If this movie isn't Murphy's Law unchecked, I don't know what is.

With each hysterical mishap, the normally ebullient Clark inches closer and closer to "losing it." Having been planning and looking forward to this trip for months, Clark--ever the eternal, naive optimist--becomes more and more frustrated, shaken. Ticked. And when the golden moment arrives, when Clark finally loses control, the viewer is rewarded with sheer comic bliss.

Imogene Coca, Randy Quaid, John Candy, and a delightfully voluptuous Beverly D'Angelo round out an exceptional cast. Director Harold Ramis keeps the story flowing smoothly from one disaster to the next. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION is by far the funniest and the best of the "Vacation" movies, and is more than worthy to take its place in anyone's video collection.

Summary: Definetly Chevy Chase's best movie
Review: I saw some of Chevy Chase's other movies and this was definetly the best out of all the vacation movies. This movie is great fun to watch with the whole family. I really liked this movie and think that it is one of the funniest movies of all time. I love all the charactors and the way they all fit together. I think that everyone would enjoy this unless you are very serious person all the time. If you have not seen this movie yet GO SEE IT! Its hilarious

Summary: A Vacation For The Ages
Review: You'd have to be a hermit to have not heard of this film. Starring Chevy Chase and Beverley D'Angelo, this story of a family's trip to Wally World would become one of the most famous comedies of all time. The movie revolves around all the bad luck a normal family faces while trying to go to an amusement park for a vacation. Though the people seem normal enough, the outrageous events wear on their sanity. Well, actually it only wears on Chevy Chase who plays a funny family man, as well as psychotic. I can't rave enough about this film. This spawned off several fantastic sequels and from the success and greatness of this movie, it's easy to see why. This is one of those movies where you can't say you've lived until you viewed it.

Summary: Start Your Chevy
Review: The first and maybe most realistic vehicle for Chevy Chase as his family attempts to traverse most of the country in search of a theme park. The characters, the situations are all easy to watch including that old trooper Imogene Coca who I remember from my youth. It is hard to imagine anyone in this country at least, not finding something to latch onto as the Griswolds make their debut. If all movies were like this one it would be too much to handle but a little diversion is always nice.

Summary: Everything that POSSIBLY could go wrong....DOES!
Review: This is the first and very best of Chevy Chase's "hellish" Family Vacations. He takes his wife and 2 teenage kids on a road trip from Chicago to LA, with everyone's dream-theme-park "Walley's World" as the final desination. Unforeseen (and eventually predictable) problems lurk around every corner. From being jipped by a car salesman to being "taken" by various locals, to "visiting" with bumpkin relatives, this trip includes every imaginable disaster.

There are many subtle jokes that seem to elude the cast members delivering them. When the wife clears the left-overs from the dinner dishes, the husband wipes them off (without washing them) and puts them in the cupboard. Neither of them seem to notice this, busy talking about their emminent trip.

When Chevy Chase has a "father to son talk" with a young Anthony Michael Hall, he puts on his eyeglasses (presumably for dramatic effect), but almost immediately one half of the frame falls off, the other half following quickly. Both father & son ignore the incident and just continue talking.

Imogine Coca basically playes "herself" as the obnoxious Aunt Edna, who meets with an untimely death while "hitching a lift" to yet another relative. Her funniest moment is when she (upon giving it some thought) eventually decides to have a big bite of a sandwich suspected to have been drenched in dog urine.

The "f" word flies freely, which would appear gratuitous today, but by 1983 standards was considered "standard". The "R" rating seems a bit harsh, though. Even with brief "glimpses" at female breasts and several sexual inuendos, today a PG-13 rating would have been the most. Hints at marijuana use are so subtle that anyone unfamiliar with the practice would "miss it". Fears of corrupting minors are unfounded.

This is a very entertaining trip through the USA with a roller-coaster ride at Walley's World as a reward. This vacation inspired 3 sequels! Recommended to audiences age 12 and up.****

Summary: Excellent American Comedy!
Review: One of my all time favourites, Chevy Chase was born for this role! It's not your typical "in your face" American comedy, it takes a different, darker slant to humour. The DVD is fine, the audio is Dolby 1.0 but here in Australia we've been graced with an anamorphic widescreen version. I wonder why Region 1 copped a full screen version?

Summary: Chevy Chase at his best
Review: I loved this comedy. In fact, my ex-wife's family was alot like the Griswolds. This comedy is packed with lots of laughs and I'm sure anyone who's ever taken a family vacation by car can appreciate some aspect of this film. I highly recommed it.
