Summary: Just like the polkas
Review: If you're a movie connisseur who thinks that every movie should have a great plot and superb acting, leave this page now, because you will *hate* UHF. This movie is pure Weird Al--the show starts with a daydream sequence that parodies Indiana Jones. The movie has a loosely cohesive plot, but that's not the point of it. The point is to have fun. Al and Michael Richards make a great comedic duo who will have you laughing through the whole thing. That is, if you aren't expecting much else. If you watch Monty Python, it's along the same lines. This is an excellent movie, and I can't wait to get the DVD copy.

Summary: Stupid humor, but it gets a chuckle...
Review: This is a stupid humor, no thought involved comedy. If you are expexting anything else, you will be dissapointed. If you are in the mood for that though, sit back and crack a smile and laugh like you were 12 again.

Summary: cheap and hilarious
Review: this is one of my all time favourite movies. When I saw all the amazing special features on the dvd I was sure it would cost an arm and a leg. Luckily enough this dvd is cheap as chips. It's a great movie and with all these fantastic special features it's a MUST own. Weird al talking through the deleted scenes is enough to have me in a stiches. a great dvd for a perfect movie.

Summary: Just As Lame And Stupid As Ever!
Review: I just got done taking yet another look at UHF™, this time on the brand-spankin' new DVD I just rented from the local Video Shack™! And you know what? It's is just as lame and stupid on DVD as it was when it was on VHS, LaserDisc and the silver screen! That's right, kiddies, it still has the same retarded sketches and annoyingly unfunny spoofs that make SNL™'s latest broadcasts seem like gut-busting laugh-riots, only with a much clearer picture and better sound! Now I'm lulled into a near-catatonic state of boredom by five-decimal-one channels of crystal clear audio! And if that ain't enough, this bad boy's shown in its original theatrical aspect ratio (or widescreen to all you cinematic laymen out there) as well as the full-screen rendition! Now I can see more of the background to the left and right that I never saw before in the pan-and-scan VHS rendition! Which is a step up, since the background garners far more yuks from me than the actual subjects being filmed! So in this instance, wider is indeed a whole lot better! Ah, the miracles of digital video technology! Oh yeah, it's also just a tad bit funnier when you listen to the French dub track! Actually, the Spanish dub's pretty decent for a few giggles too! The American-English dub, however, really sucks...

But now that I think about it, maybe I'm being a bit too negative here. Maybe I should refocus thie write-up on what I consider to be the movie's redeeming qualities. Yes, I'm gonna find something positive to say about this flick, even though it pains me greatly to do so. And that something is this: it's the most sure-fire cure for insomnia that's ever been devised! Just ten minutes into watchin' UHF™ and I'm out like a light! No Nytol™ for me, thank you very much. And if the movie itself isn't enough to drop you into LaLaLand, just take a listen to the inane prattling that's goin' on in the commentary track! Another positive thing about this flick: apparently Al pretty much abandoned any further attempts at acting in flicks after this debacle (save for a couple o' Naked Gun™ cameos), and since then has for the most part stayed within his true field of expertise: song parodies and silly music videos. A decision that has earned my undying gratitude, by the way. But in all seriousness, I have to admit that the movie's soundtrack CD contains several of the Weird One's better musical offerings along with a few soundbites from the flick's only-a-little-stupid sketches. My rec is that you grab the soundtrack and avoid this DVD like the bubonic plague! Oh, did I fail to mention that the snap case makes a great drink coaster? And the DVD is perfect for skeet-shooting practice! Well, good for one shot, anyway...

Well, I'd love to hang around and trash this horrific celluloid travesty some more, but I gotta book. I'm gonna go watch some of Al's music videos, which unlike UHF™ are actually funny! Well, except for that claymation Jurassic Park™ video; that was pretty lame. But that's another review for another time...

'Late!

Summary: Weird Al's only starring role is a classic
Review: In 1989, Al's popularity was starting to slip. His last albums "Polka Party" and "Even Worse" didn't sell as much as prior efforts. He had a cameo in "Naked Gun" and a few other movies. This could have put him back on top, but it didn't do very well, critics hated it.
Al plays George Newman, a humorous guy with an overactive imagination. He and his friend Bob can't hold jobs for long, and get fired from Burger World one day. George's girlfriend Teri (played by the cute and likable high-voiced SNL mainstay Victoria Jackson) loves him but can't stand how unreliable he is. They have an on and off again relationship throughout the movie.
Just when it looks like things couldn't get worse, George's uncle Harvey, a compulsive gambler, wins a rarely watched TV station in a poker game. He lets George run it, with help from Bob.
George parodies TV shows and movies and effectively revives the station. Fran Dresier is the station's secretary and has a strong supporting role. All isn't well, though. R.J. Fletcher (Kevin McCarthy) is the respected owner of a high-rated network station and hates George & his friends. He's determined to stay on top and put them out of business.
Just before hitting it big on "Seinfeld" (my personal favorite sitcom) Michael Richards played Stanley, a janitor at the rival station whom Fletcher fires for no apparent reason. Stan goes to work for George (On-air & a janitor) and quickly becomes friends with everyone.
In short, the rest of the movie features parodies of Conan the Barbarian, Geraldo, Wheel of Fortune, and a full-length music video for "Beverly Hillbillies" which is a spoof of the Dire Straits' rock classic "Money for Nothing."
Harvey gets into more gambling trouble and owes a guy $75,000. The station will shut down if they can't come up with it in time. They hold an on-air telethon, but will it work? You'll just have to watch it!
Hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since I got this movie (before it went out of print). Unlike some people, the stuff I liked when I was young (I should be the face on a dollar bill for even saying that!) I enjoy today just the same now.
Like others have said, this didn't have a shot at making it with movies like "Batman" coming out at the same time. This was actually filmed a couple of years earlier, but since it's not an 'A-list' film with worldwide stars, it took awhile to get released.
Thinking about it, it's kind of nice that this isn't so well known, it's harder to get tired of and it's kind of a 'cult-following' movie, much like our heroes' TV station.
Even if Al Yankovic didn't resurge with UHF, he'd end up coming back with 1992's "Off the Deep End," probably his best AL-bum ever.

Summary: UHF on DVD
Review: Some good paradies but a formula plot. Yankovik should have tried for something along the lines of Grove Tube or Kentuky Fried Movie.

Summary: Perfect for any fan of stupid humor
Review: If you enjoy any stupid humor movie (Naked Gun-like, all of which Weird Al as appeared in), you would simply love UHF. Al is known as the parody master in the music world and here he demontrates that he can spoof television and movies. The jokes are non-stop and hilarious. Michael Richards, seen in this movie just before Seinfeld debuted, is classic. I recommend this movie to all ages. Sure, it's corny, cheesy, and at times downright stupid, but that's what you know you're getting with Weird Al. Funny each time you watch it.

Summary: A Plethora of "Before They Were Famous" Stars
Review: What can I say about this movie! You either love it or hate it. This was Weird Al's only foray into the feature film industry, and it was a flop at the box office. However, this movie has TONS of sight gags and, in true Weird Al fashion, spoofs of famous TV shows.

As a 6th grade Math and Science teacher, I ocassionally play movies for the kids in class just before school breaks, and they LOVE this movie (kinda holds true to my wife's claim that I have the mentality of a 12 year old!).

If you buy one movie this year, let "UHF" be that movie, especially if you're a fan of Weird Al's music!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great DVD value
Review: Okay, this is not a four star movie. Even as a Weird Al fan, I would have to say this is a 3-star effort at best. But MGM has put together a surprisingly solid DVD package and slapped a very low retail price on it, making it a no-brainer for any Weird Al fan to pick up.

If you haven't seen this film and are considering checking it out, ask yourself one question: Do I like goofy, corny, parody-driven movies? If the answer is "yes," you'll probably find this a fairly painless hour and a half. There are some very inspired segments; the Rambo bit works better than all of Hot Shots Part Deux and preceded it by about 4 years. There are some real clunkers in this movie, too. But I'd say more than 50% of it is at least chuckle-worthy.

If you're already a Weird Al fan, the main attraction here is Al's audio commentary. Yeah, the director is there, too- but he barely speaks, and when he does he sounds bored. Al packs in so much information and very funny anecdotes in this track, I found it easily as enjoyable as watching the movie itself.

Also notable, the 20 minutes of deleted scenes. This is a bit different than usual deleted sections on DVDs. Al introduces each of the scenes, giving his editorial viewpoints on each one. Believe me, Al doesn't consider this film a masterpiece by any means, and his self-deprecating comments makes it even funnier.

A handful of more minor features are included, making this thing a must-own for a Weird Al fan.
