Review: this is a terrific movie! I think most people have problems with the dry wit and the fact it's in black and white, but I find all of it greatly deep and fun to watch. I cant find a single reason why anyone wouldnt want to watch this!oh, ps... try to avoid the alternate ending... it's a true depresser!

Summary: Was the best yet to come??
Review: I became a fan of Kevin Smith by seeing "Chasing Amy". "Clerks", although the first, was the second Viewaskew film I saw. Although funny and entertaining, I don't think I would have liked it as much if I didn't know the back story.
That being said, this DVD is a must to have in your collection, if for nothing more than the introductions to characters that will pop up in Smith's future outings.
Check out the alternate ending. Thank God they didn't use it.

Review: Who knew that the lives of store clerks could be so interesting? Kevin Smith did and his "Clerks" is an amusing little film that follows the routines of two clerks: Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran), a convenience store clerk, and his neighboring video store clerk Randal (Jeff Anderson). Both clerks aren't exactly the poster boys for the notion of the efficient work force, but the strange thing is that Dante and Randal come across as pretty ok guys compared to the strange collection of customers and friends they come into contact with. To say that Dante's life is a mess would be an understatement. He has dropped out of college, is having trouble with his love life, and to add insult to injury must cancel his hockey game to man the store on his day off. Randal's life seems even more uneventful. He exists only to comment upon the problems of others since it appears his life is a total void. Randal is like one of those friends who is always around but you know nothing about. You don't know what makes him tick or if he has any hopes and dreams. He's just like . . . there. Yet, when these two men engage each other in conversation, there are exchanges of deep insight (relatively speaking). In what other film can you hear an enlightened conversation on the role of independent contractors in the Star Wars universe? Smith proves himself to be an able filmmaker in creating an entertaining film despite the fact that the majority of its scenes take place in and around a single location, the convenience-video store complex. To compensate for this limitation, Smith has written several witty exchanges between his characters and created one unexpected situation after another with the odd assortment of customers that pass through the stores. This type of minimalist filmmaking will never gain a sizeable mainstream following but the fact that Jay and Silent Bob have survived to appear in a film of their own is a testament to the continuing cult appeal of "Clerks". "Clerks" will not be remembered as one of the masterpieces of the medium but it gains major points for proving to the world that a quality product can be made with no star power and no budget to speak of.

Review: This may be the greatest slacker movie ever. (Probably). If you've already seen the movie and are skeptical about buying the DVD, go for it. The alternate ending will blow your mind. My jaw was wide open when I saw the Alternate Ending that's one of the deleted scenes. Kevin Smith is a genius.

Summary: One Of The Funniest Movies Ever
Review: Yes it's true; Clerks is black and white, has no real movie stars--just casted with old high-school and college buddies, and was made on only a $27,000 budget. Most people would think that with that kind of start--a good movie would be impossible to make. Not for Kevin Smith... Clerks follows a day in the lives of two overworked counter jockies who hate their jobs more than anything. The convenient store worker, Dante, is on his day off and is planning on sleeping in and playing hockey in the afternoon. Early in the morning, the boss calls him and tells him that the other guy is sick and cant come in. Dante agrees to work as long as the boss shows up at noon to take over. From there the day only gets worse for Dante and his best friend and video store worker, Randal. During the course of the day they manage to [upset] almost every costumer, learn things about their sex lives, play hockey on the roof, and even attend a wake (which the scene ends in one of the funniest ways). This movie made Kevin Smith a huge star. All it took was the hilarious Clerks to start him off and by the next year, he had already made another movie with stars like Jason Lee and Ben Affleck. And from there made movies with even more stars like Joey-Lauren Adams, Matt Damon, Shannon Elizabeth, and still keeps his old "Clerks" buddies like Brian O'Halleran and Jeff Anderson, and of course Jason Mewes. Clerks is definatly one of the funniest movies ever and IS the funniest Kevin Smith movie out of the New Jersey series. Watch out for "Jay and Silent Bob's" first movie appearance which was followed by roles in Kevin Smith's other movies and even their own movie. This is Kevin Smith at his best. "Clerks" runs for about 95 minutes. It is rated R for extremely explicit sexual dialogue and for strong language. It originally was rated NC-17. Not reccomended for anyone under 17.

Summary: An all-around great movie!
Review: First off, I really liked this one, and even though it wasn't a proper intro into the Jersey series, it was good to see how they started. You have to love everytime Dante says, "I'm not even supposed to be here today"! I think the reason why it took best picture at the Sundance film festival that year, was because it is about something that we have all dealed with and that's bad clerks. Even thought this is about clerks and bad customers, it could still work both ways. I know I've put up with and have seen some mean clerks, so I can relate as can everyone else I'm sure. Also, there is kind of a spark of greatness added by putting the film in B&W. I'm also a sucker for movies that say how good it is on the front. Final Verdict: Buy.

Summary: My Favorite Movie - Needs a better DVD
Review: You can probably read the other reviews to figure out the plot. And you're supposed to review the DVD, not the movie itself. This is a very bare boned "Collectors Edition." There are a few deleted scenes as well as directors commentary, but now that is NEEDED even on non-collectors version DVD's. Considering you can go to Kevin Smith's webpage and watch all the "Extra's" on that are on the DVD, it makes this whole "Collector's" thing pretty useless. If you haven't ever seen the movie, buy the VHS for much less, unless you find the DVD on sale.

Summary: Who Says Working Can't Be Fun???
Review: One of the most talked about debuts that is loved by both critics and the public, 'Clerks' is Kevin Smith's masterpiece that was made on such a low budget. The budget might've been low, but the quality turned out to be very high. If you haven't seen this film yet, then you are missing out big time. This is the one that started it all, and gave us the impression of a new and talented filmmaker. Most of the film takes place at a convenient store. Dante isn't supposed to be working, but he is. What was supposed to be his day off turns into a day filled with chaos, disaster, and outrageous conflicts, (and all because he decided to come to work). Randall, who works at the video store, spends most of the time at the convenient store. He's as rude as they come and isn't afraid to get in a customer's face if he feels the need to do so. You add all this up along with the crazy shoppers who do nothing but drive the two nuts and you get a film filled with unpredictable twists and hilarity. Smith's real talent is in his writing. He is a great director, but he is an even better writer. The dialogue that you hear from the movie is very realistic. The characters aren't talking for the only purpose of moving the movie along. They actually talk like you and me talk. (Well, maybe some of us don't curse as much, but you know what I mean.) And as outrageous or unbelievable the movie becomes, it is all constructed in a manner in which we could actually see this going on in real life. The writing is effective, the acting is top-notch, and the directing is very well-executed. The DVD has some cool extra features that are bound to make you happy. It's not a 'fully-loaded' special edition, but it's a lot better than most of the DVDs that are out right now. The picture and sound quality is really good, considering how low budget the film was. Being shot in black and white adds a raw and realistic feel to it that wouldn't had been as affective if it were done in color. (Yes, it is black and white. It is black and white because that was how it was shot. I've read a few reviews saying that they're waiting for a colored version to come out. No such thing exists.) The special features are deleted scenes, an alternate ending, audio commentary done by the cast and crew, the theatrical trailer, and a Soul Asylum music video. 'Clerks' is a hilarious film that will surprise you every time. Be warned, there is a lot of offensive and rude language in it, so if you don't like films with a lot of that then you better skip it. This is a film that continues to be a favorite of mine and is one I have yet to become sick of. This is a movie that shows you that while 'serving' you is required in the job, 'liking' you is not. Get in and get out as quickly as possible, or feel the wrath of Dante and Randall. (Especially Randall.)
