Review: I remember the movie from when I was in college and it has always been one of my favorites. Look at the trailer if you want to see what it looked on the movie screen, very nice transfer to DVD. Too bad the only 'extra' is the trailer.

Review: I saw this movie when I was about eleven I didn't really get it but liked anyway then later I remembered it and rented it again, its really good. Those of you who like "indie" films would probably like it. Definatly worth watching quite a few times.

Review: I, too, remember this as one of the all-time great movies. Reviewer John Robinson is right: The American theatre version stops with the hero standing at the gates of the city with a bird cage; there is no further dialogue. The French film tradition does not wrap stories up into such tidy packages as Hollywood does. Perhaps the American version of the film was cut to give it a more clearly defined finale.BTW, John Robinson, if you want other reviewers to respond to you, you should give your email address!

Summary: A MUST for students of film art
Review: If 'King of Hearts' were a painting, it would hang in a prominent place in the Louvre. Unmatched cinematography, perfect scoring, and Bates, Bujold, and the rest of the cast were all magnificent in their respective characters. Decent anti-war message, too. Subtitled version is better because of the entendre; the English-dubbed version is not accurate, and misses some of the original sounds. You cannot even review any film if you have not seen this one. Brilliant and classic.

Summary: The 1st Time I Ever Saw Alan Bates--Love at 1st Sight!
Review: If you've followed the film career of the extraordinary British actor Alan Bates, this early film role of his is going to surprise you. He plays a very likable Scot soldier who literally comes upon a town in France during WW I that is occupied solely by the inmates of the lunatic asylum. The irony is that the passivist lunatics are the sane ones during the unfolding of a world war. With all of the intense roles that followed in Bates' career, it is amazing to see him play a young, innocent, likable, amiable, romantic lead at its start. He reminds me here of today's Ewan McGregor, someone I would never normally think of in connection with Bates! For those of you who have never seen Geneviève Bujold in her early career, you will be astounded by how gorgeous she is here as Bates' romantic interest. I have seen this film many times, beginning with when it first came out decades ago, and it certainly holds up extremely well as a joyous film experience

Summary: Very outstanding, a bit odd piece of film art.
Review: Its most charming side is the well performed, or rather, deliberately over-performed theatricity of the characters. Add to this the fact that in the movie everything is revolving around an asylum, pour in some satire, mix it with distorted reflections from everyday life and you will get something where you will not be able to tell any more what is common sense and what - madness. A must see. Pity though that it is unavailable in Europe's video standards.

Review: King of Hearts was, in my younger and more vulnerable years, one of my favorite movies, but I had not seen it in many years. In fact, I'd rather forgotten about it. Then I came across the DVD and bought it and watched it again. Still a great movie, but I was puzzled. My recollection was the final scene of the movie is Plumpick (Alan Bates) appearing at the gate of the asylum naked. Then the credits began (rather abruptly as I recollect). In the DVD, however, there is a short scene after this where Bates has joined the inmates and there is a brief exchange of dialog. I don't recall ever seeing this before, but maybe my memory is foggy. No one else seems to have mentioned this either in ... of IMDB, nor does the DVD tout a restored scene. Can anyone tell me if they recall this scene?
