Rating: Summary: A risky video investment that brought great yield! Review: That's what I mean by this apt review title. I purchased "Repo Man" without a single previous viewing on a hunch that it would prove to be a cult delight based on the overwhelming adulation I've seen in the present Amazon reviews. I would like to say that this sci-fi/action/comedy from former Monkee guitarist Mike Nesmith exceeded my expectations! Estevez and Stanton are great as the streetwise L.A. repo dudes who become embroiled in a zany scavenger hunt for a 1964 Chevy carrying some other-worldly cargo that's worth a cool $20,000 to them, but they must vie against an ensemble of punks, FBI agents, alien tabloid fanatics, and a lobotomized nuclear physicist to repossess it (yikes!) Just loved the liquor store shoot-out scene where the clerk, rent-a-cop, Otto's ex-comrades, and others just shoot everyone down silly with Emilio and Harry Dean stuck in the middle! This has to be one of the best B-movies I've ever seen! "Repo Man" is a must-see for all cult film fans
Rating: Summary: Still one of the best films, A Classic! Review: First saw it at one of those little independent film houses, along with the updated "Metropolis." Was cool then, and still now. If you like this check out "Brother from Another PLanet" and the updated "Metropolis." - When's this stuff going 2B on DVD? ...l8r
Rating: Summary: Still on of the best strangest movie out! Review: I first saw this movie when I was 6 years old. That was 1989, 6 years since the movie came out. I did not undersatnd so much then, could not even read so much of the swedish text below ( since im from sweden, there is swedish text ) but I saw it at least 4 times. Then when I got older I still was looking at it. And man, it is one of the best movies around, there aint many movies that are mafe today that can beat Repo Man. Both Harry Dean and Emilio does great work acting. It's been a time since but Harry Dean I think played the drunk man that was hanging outside the car-lot. Excellent movie and now im waiting fot it to come out on DVD!
Rating: Summary: the greatest story ever told Review: Mindboggling encapsulation of growing up as a teenager in the second half of the twentieth century. So funny it hurts.
Rating: Summary: "shrimp" Review: "plate of""it's all part of the lattice of intercoincidences." "it happens sometimes. people just explode. natural causes." "let's go do some crimes. let's eat sushi, and not pay." a previous reviewer said this movie lacked compelling dialogue. ha.
Rating: Summary: One of my Favs. Makes you laugh and makes you think. Review: Repo Man joyously satires some of the fixations of modern society and slaps you silly with "out there" reflections and dialogue, watch it, and OWN it.
Rating: Summary: have you felt like your mind started to erode? Review: I first saw this movie in 1986 and I still love it! A definite must buy. Otto is a disgrunted punker trying to make heads or tails in a crazy world. In the process, he runs into an odd alotment of people like Miller the schizo and J Frank Parnel the mad scientist. The life of a repo man is always intense. Buy this video and you well agree. You won`t be disappointted!
Rating: Summary: Cool One-Liners Review: This is one of those true classic one-of-a-kind movies that is fun to watch since it has so many cool one-liners in it. Get some beer, check your brain at the door, and have a good laugh! And by all means, watch it more than once, otherwise you won't understand the cool stuff.
Rating: Summary: Plate of Shrimp! A Metal Hand! Review: This film is wonderful for about the first hour but the UFO dead aliens plot never really did it for me. What makes this movie a classic is the first hour where Otto, fed up with his life, finds his way into becoming a RepoMan. The dialogue of the "Repo Code" and the soundtrack ("doo-bee do wa wa say what yeah?") put this film into a class by itself. I still consider it one of the best films of the 1980s.
Rating: Summary: This is a must-see, over and over! Review: After seeing this movie for the first time, you will likely be left with one word in your mind: HUH? Follow the adventures of a not-so-punk Otto, played by Emilio Estevez, as he begins a career of repossessing cars. His mentors, Budsky and Lite, are simply hilarious, and exchange some of the most memorable and catch-phrase laden dialog you will experience. The film has a weirdness, a disconnectedness, to it, that becomes more evident each time it is viewed. Dead extraterrestrials, lobotomized physicists, money-grubbing televangelists, and blow-wave CIA agents round out the cast of characters. I have easily seen this film 25 times, and I see something new each time. The first five or six times I viewed it was in a theatre, which was fortunate. There are many subtle sight gags that are extremely difficult to pick up on the small screen, even if you know what to look for. This could also be due to the poor quality of the video. Keep in mind this was a very low budget film (poor sound, worse special effects, lots and lots of non-edited errors), but a low budget film that is a hell of a lot of fun. Highly recommended!!
