Rating: Summary: A Sure Fire Cure For Insomnia Review: When one can honestly say that the best thing in a movie is Madonna... one is saying all that need be said.
Rating: Summary: It's Not Meant To Be Serious Review: I can't believe someone saying how it isn't a good rolemodel for women and children. What a joke! It's based on a comic book not an Oprah Winfrey Special. It's a great kids movie.
Rating: Summary: Trashy...full of cliches & stereotypes... Review: Hardly worth the film it's printed on. Dick Tracy is a stereotypical macho male who always saves the day. Then there's his whiny, clingy girlfriend Tess Trueheart, who is just a dainty little beauty who waits around for Dick to rescue her when she's kidnapped. Tess is one of the most stereotyped females I've even seen in a movie. She speaks in a tinny, whiny voice & comes across as a dumb weakling. When Dick leaves the table a while, asking Tess to watch the little boy for a while, Tess whines, "Watch him do what?" She also has a rather nasty streak in her that is portrayed in an underhanded, sly way. I could see it when Dick brings the "kid" back to the diner where they're eating. In front of Dick, Tess acts all concerned about the kid(who, naturally is a boy), but the instant Dick is called away to play hero, she turns cold to the kid & while she's eating, narrows her eyes at him. The "kid" is a miniature stereotype of the he-man. He doesn't care for Tess either, smartmouths her, then says, "I don't like dames." (How sexist!) Tess adds in a worse comment: "Me neither." (Apparently, she doesn't like her own gender.) Another scence where Tess' mean streak shows up: she comes to Dick's apartment & catches Dick in a clinch with Breathless. She slunks back out the door & the kid practically shoves her inside. Then, Tess gives Dick a wounded animal look, but stares coldly at Breathless & says in contempt,"Hello, Miss Mahoney." The boy, for his part, shows a blatant disrespect for women when he says of Breathless with a leer, "That's what I call a dame..." Also idiotic was that although Dick may love Tess, I don't think he really respected her. Kissing Breathless was one of them. I'd take Luke Skywalker any day over Dick Tracy. Breathless didn't really do justice to Madonna. I wonder what made Madonna agree to this role. Breathless tried to come across as a sexy temptress, but was pathetic, letting Big Boy smack her twice. This is not a movie I'd want my kids learning from. For a male role model, your sons are better off emulating Luke Skywalker, who is full of fear, but a real human being.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment despite a weak plot. Review: I had just graduated from high school when this film first came out so it brings back some great memories. Though the plot is weak, this movie must be seen for its entertainment value: great use of color, fantastic music, and outrageous characters! If you're looking for a silver-screen marvel, stay away. If you're looking for a great hero, you're better off at the comic book store checking out Superman or whatever. But, if you want to enjoy an entertaining movie with a bag of hot popcorn, this is a good choice! And you can't beat Madonna!
Rating: Summary: EN VOGUE Review: Madonna does Dietrich--AND DOES IT BETTER
Rating: Summary: Madonna saved the otherwise choppy film. Review: Well, I was at first put off by the overly cartoon-y ccolors of the sets and characters--that is, until Madonna appeared onscreen in all her luminescent radience (which made the coloring much more bearable). The musical score was a perfect match, and Beatty was at his most charming, but Tess trueheart's character was very boring (how Tracy could have chosen her over Madonna's radient Breathless Mahoney is a true mystery to me. Mandy Patinkin was also good as Breathless's accomplice and piano player. This film is worth having just to view Madonna in all her splendor--and her acting isn't bad either (much better than seeing her in "Shanghai Surprise" She reminded me of La Monroe in "Niagra" as Rose Loomis. As an extra bonus, this film is very family-freindly--that is, you can watch it with your kids with a clear conscience, since there is nothing offensive to worry about.
Rating: Summary: This movie is no-good Review: Dick Tracy is and always has been a loser movie. It came out in 1990 when I was about 7yrs old and its still a crappy movie. Stupid characters, lame plot, and way too bright settings and everything else make this movie stink. For a better comic book movie see Superman(1979) or Batman with Michael Keaton(1989). Those movies have great characters, stories, and arent overburdened with stupid cameos like Dustin Hoffman as Itchy and other lame villians like The Blank, and Big-Boy. Thank goodness they dont make comic books like this anymore.
Rating: Summary: Adults will enjoy it more than children Review: I remember going to see this film when it first came out. I was about 10 at the time and I absolutely hated it!! The plot was to complicated and there was precious little in the way of action to compensate the tedious plot. I saw it again 7 years later and enjoyed it better. The production design was brio as was the make up and the aray of cartoon performances from veterans like Beatty, Pacino and Hoffman. It's still not brilliant but now that I alot older I was able to appreciate the sort of things that you just don't notice when you're a child.
Rating: Summary: This movie is entirely one of the best ever made!!!!!!!!!! Review: I saw Dick Tracy when I was ten years old and the memory of watching it on the big screen is still with me. It is one of the most captivating films ever. Full immersion into the comic book world of Chester Gould could not have been done better on film. This is what movie magic is all about, only Jurassic Park captured my imagination more. This will make you love movies (that is of course assuming you don't already). Buy it and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous chaos topped off by sexy romance and intrigue. Review: Madonna and Warren, can't get any better than that. The sexy tension between Breathless and Tracy is nerve racking, they are good for each other in different ways. He needing spice in his life and she needing a real man to show her warmth and compassion. They have a connection like no other and Tracy being the stubborn one finally gives in to her. He's the only one in the movie who realy understands her needs and the fact that she's not the sultry night club singer she appears to be, but a woman of desperate means. Warren made a superb choice with Madonna and no one could have done it better. Hats off to them both and to all those involved for creating this wonderfully glamorous and sensual film not to mention action packed. I love it more each time I see it.
