Rating: Summary: Canadian edition has extra features that this doesn't Review: A lot of people have been complaining about the lack of extras on Pulp Fiction. I had the same problem. However, I discovered that another company distributes this flick in Canada and has released a different version of the DVD. The Canadian version has deleted scenes with introductions to each by Tarantino. It also has the trailers for the film from 5 or 6 different countries to compare the way the film was marketed internationally. The transfer is the same, so there is no loss to picture and sound on the Canadian edition. Also, the Canadian edition is Region 1, so it'll play on any DVD player in the U.S. Finally, you can find this rather easily on the Net, and it will be a few dollars cheaper than the American edition after you take the currency exchange rate into account. Anyway, to those who are upset with the American version's lack of extras, there is a better alternative at a cheaper price.
Rating: Summary: portions of movie cut out on dvd Review: Unless I'm mistaken, there are several scenes cut out of the movie on dvd. When john travolta shoots up, I believe, that was all cut out. Not that big of a deal, but why. It's on the vhs, I know that. Also, when he's driving to pick up Uma Thurman and he's high, that was cut out also.
Rating: Summary: A lot of fun Review: PULP FICTION is one of those movies that can't help just oozing with coolness. Back in the mid-90s this film was synonymous with hip and brought John Travolta's career back from the dead. For years after the release of this picture it was impossible to go into a fast food restaurant without some joker massacring the film's dialogue at you. For all of its influence, it's still one of the most entertaining films to come out of the 90's. The action frequently slows down enough for the actors to rapidly fire off one-liners at each other, but those never slow down. These talking scenes are the real meat and potatoes of the film; everything else is just padding to bring us from conversation to conversation. The characters are almost uniformly excellent, with only one or two exceptions. Harvey Keitel nearly steals the entire movie in his smallish role as the wonderfully unrealistic Mr. Wolf. The DVD is nice to look at but contains very little in the way of extras. This is strange, as it does not contain the extra, cut scenes that are featured at the end of the wide-screen video release. Still it's worth it to have this film on the clearer, longer-lasting format, and for that reason alone this is a great DVD to own. Stick this into your player and sit back to experience one hell of a fun ride.
Rating: Summary: Tarantino is a god among men! Review: Pulp Fiction is easily the greatest movie of all time. Atlanta burning in Gone With The Wind or the Death Star exploding in Star Wars cannot compare with Sam Jackson laying his vengence or Travolta shooting Marvin in the face. The DVD makes the movie four times better than it is on video. The widescreen format makes the movie look like it did when it was at the theaters. And the picture and sound are crystal clear. If you don't have this DVD (or even if you have the video) buy it now. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Absolute Garbage! Review: This is one of those films that just goes to show people will call you a genius if you do something original whether it's good or not. Tarantino should be proud that he went from working as a cashier at Blockbuster video to a successful 90's flash in the pan director. Frankly I think he should still be working at Blockbuster. His success is classic proof that anyone can make it if they try hard enough. Original or not, good cast or not, this is just another violent bloodbath full of torture and rape. Hardly an excuse for entertainment. And as for his attempt at making it funny, comedy should be left to comedians. The biggest shame of all is that this film inspired so many rip-offs which were even worse. If Tarantino wants to direct and be in front of the camera, why doesn't he make another Revenge of the Nerds movie? He'd finally be perfectly cast and maybe then there might be a reason to laugh.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: " Pulp Fiction" is a brilliant piece of filmmaking. It was a completely innovative idea by director Quentin Tarantino and should be commended for it's grat use of black comedy blended in with the gruesome violence and the understandable bad language. For those who think that a movie should be judged on it's gore content, it's "naughty language", or it's use of drugs, should be shot. There are plenty of other things that make a movie. Little things like story, dialogue, chemistry between characters, writing, directing, and basic entertainment value all play pivitol roles in how you judge a movie, and "Pulp Fiction" had all of them. As for gore, language, and drugs, these were put in intentionally for you to get the feel of what the times were like that the characters were living in. With a superb cast, great direction, and a kickass soundtrack, "Pulp Fiction" clearly earns its five stars.
Rating: Summary: "Tarantino returns with the great Pulp Fiction" Review: This a daring and wildly funny film. It is a rambunctious blend of comedy and violence! This was the follow up on 1992's Reservoir Dogs, but the film was a little less better than Reservoir Dogs. In Pulp Fiction they don't let you imagine hardly anything for yourself. But it is still pretty good. It is how the lifes of 12 people interact with each other in L.A. Two hired hit men (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), Their Boss (Ving Rhames), A Prizefighter (Bruce Willis), The Bosse's Wife (Uma Thurman), The Prizefighter's girlfriend (Maria de Mederiros),Two Drug Dealers (Eric Stoltz and Rosanna Arquette), A War Veteran (Christopher Walken),A Criminal Aid (Harvey Keital) and two bank robbers (Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer). Guest Stars Bronaugh Gallagher, Steve Bucemi, Brenda Hillhouse, Julia Sweeney, Peter Greene, Duane Whitaker, Angela Jones, Vanessa Valentino and Quentin Tarantino. This film is directed and written by Quentin Tarantino.Recieved one academy award for best screenplay. If you are at the video store ever and you have not seen Pulp Fiction you have got to rent it. -Michael Margetis
Rating: Summary: :o) Review: Alright, I'm sick of people bashing this movie because of its content. Its greatness lies not in what it portrays, but how it's portrayed. There has never been a movie with dialogue so real, and characters so human. I have a feeling people who didn't like this movie liked Pearl Harbor ...How dare you call this movie shallow!?
Rating: Summary: really good Review: nothing else can be said, its scrumtrulescent
