Rating: Summary: Absolutely, positively the WORST movie ever made!!!!! Review: Okay. I've seen dumb movies. I've seen terrible movies. I've seen horrible movies. This one TOPS them all by SO FAR! It was absolutely ridiculouse. A bunch of friends and I went to see it and we didn't laugh ONCE. It had stupid crude humor and just wasn't funny. I would give this a -10 star if I could. DON'T GO SEE IT. It will be 2 hours of your life wasted when you could do something much more interesting.
Rating: Summary: teaching our kids youth? Review: Wow. That's all I can say. This is the greatest movie of all time - that is, if you're a brain dead airhead from high school. Who the hell would find this tripe REMOTELY entertaining? Personally, it sickens me to see this kind of tripe. But enough about my gripes, lets see how I think the movie will be: Plot: 0/2.5 - No surprises. A kid goes to jail and picks up tips on how to be cool. He actually makes an alter ego identity. He pretty much then becomes the most popular kid in school, but the most popular student doesn't warm up to him. Altogether now: OOOOH ! How original! With this aside, he helps everyone win the football game by showing "school spirit." Yawn. Give me a break (see below) Comedy: 0/2.5 -Since the guy spends some time in prison, they're probably will be some jokes about rape and homosexuality. And since this movie deals with teenagers: sex, sex, and sex. Wow - SO ORIGINAL! Acting: 0/2.5 - No one major is in the movie (other than Lyle Lovett), but to me, acting isn't about whose in the movie. It's about showing emotion. Other than the emotion "I have to toughen up to be popular" there is clearly no emotion. Oh wait I forgot about the school spirit part. Please. Even if kids today HAD any school spirit, they wouldn't act like that. Get real. Entertainment: 0/2.5 - Who would find this movie entertaining (other than the 10-18 age group)? I would guess the only reason why most teens would like this movie is because it reinforces that pop culture is the supreme ruler of high school, and that anyone intelligent and/or different is automatically dejected. For the serious moviegoer, I wouldn't look at anything from this movie. You might turn into stone. Bonuses: +.5 for the line "High school is a lot like prison." How true is this? This is the only thing that I liked about the movie. Apparently High school IS a prison - since it not only cares little about your individual rights, but also because it's a thought jail. Any free thinking is not allowed. Otherwise, you a deemed an outcast, a columbine killer, a Satanist, or worse. -.5 for the scene where he dresses up like "Brave heart" and screams "LET'S DO IT!" so the football team can charge. Give me a f***ing break. If I were Mel Gibson, I would already be peeved that most people are ripping off "Brave heart." In this case, I'd be ready to file a major lawsuit. I wouldn't want ANYTHING from my movie touching this movie, that's for sure. Total: 0/10 So what exactly does this movie teach? I can give you some clues. The first thing this movie teaches is that it's not okay to be yourself. Think about it. The main character changes into an alter ego. He's not himself. The alter ego, of course, is extremely popular. What if he were himself? Of course he would be ostracized. Another thing this movie teaches is that popularity is everything in high school...
Rating: Summary: Not as good... Review: this movie was not as good as i thought it would be. a lot of the humor was lame and didnt work. while some of it was alright. this movie isnt worth seeing in theatres but if u like dj/eliza rent it when it comes out on dvd
Rating: Summary: The New Guy Review: This is a good movie. It will make you laugh, its a good movie to go take your friends too or even go on a date. There are some kids right now having to go through stuff just like that (being picked on), and doing what-ever it takes to fit in with the croud. At the end it will teach you something, that you don't have to try and be somebody else for people to like you, just be yourself
Rating: Summary: "The New Guy"-Review Review: "The New Guy" is about a teenage dork-a-zoid named Dizzy. He had a reputation as the biggest loser in school. Dizzy was often beat up by school jocks and had many pranks pulled on him. He was sick and tired of all these bullying. When Dizzy was sent to prison for vandalizing school property, his fellow cellmate(played by Eddie Griffin)sympathized for him and trained him to be tough and cool. When Dizzy left prison with a new look and tougher attitude, he transfered to another highschool hoping his new image would make him popular. This is an excellent, funny and well made movie. It doesn't even need all the "sexual" scenes like in Amercan Pie or Van Wilder in order to make it "enjoyable." Recommanded for everyone who enjoys a good laugh and a touching story about a guy who goes from zero to hero. Dj Qualls and Eddie Griffin puts on a down-to-earth hilarious performance in "The New Guy." I for one loves this movie. I been yearning to see it ever since I saw a preview of it during the summer of 2001, but it was worthwhile the wait. Go see it everyone!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Zero Won't Rise. Review: No wonder this movie kept getting its release date pushed back. I mean come on. If I were Eddie Griffin I would make sure this movie never ended up on my resume. This movie is my early tomato award for worst movie of the year. The only reason I don't give it zero stars is because Amazon won't let me.:o(
Rating: Summary: None of the reviewers has seen the movie! Review: As of May 10, 2002, no one of the 4 reviewers has actually seen the movie yet, not even a premier release, just the trailer, but they all give it a 5 star already, based on suppositions. I have not seen the movie yet either, why? Because it has not been released yet, it opens today (May 10 2002), so I give it a neutral 3 star "opinion" and AFTER I see it, then I'll come here and update my review according to a REAL experience. I just find very disappointing that people will go out and review something without experiencing. What kind of review is that? If you really want to read actual reviews, check out the Amazon's Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB).
Rating: Summary: Slightly better nerd movie Review: DJ Qualls does a great job as Dizzy, a high school nerd trying his best to be loved by his student peers. The movie is your basic Revenge of the Nerds part 7 feature. It's more of a guy movie with the ditzy (not to be confused with dizzy) additions in the form of easy cheerleaders. Movie warnings: profanity, multiple male crotch injuries, midget torcher, roasted marshmallow mayhem, gratuitous bikini and cheerleader panties shots (mostly of Eliza Dushku, who plays Dizzy's girlfriend... major goddess). Special guest appearances by Tommy Lee, Gene Simmons, Vanilla Ice (because they had nothing better to do), Tony Hawk, Lyle Lovett (playing Dizzy's father), and David Hasselhoff. For the humor, it's worth the matinee price more for the guys than the girls. But it's NOT worth the over-gouging night prices.
Rating: Summary: Better Than Battlefield Earth Review: No, I didn't like Battlefield Earth, I was just emphisising how bad The New Guy is. I'm usually a big fan of stupidity in movies, I usually get a good laugh from them. Even the very bad Sorority Boys got a few laughs out of me. The New Guy did not make me laugh once. I was waiting and waiting, but no laughs what so ever. This movie was not funny at all, please, save your money and stay away. Although, I do have to admit, Eliza Dushku is very good eye candy, and made this extremely unfunny film at least somewhat watchable. Just watch her in better films like Bring It On and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. Once again, stay away from The New Guy.
Rating: Summary: "The New Guy" looks promising. Review: Though it'll probably get bad reviews from critics, THE NEW GUY actually looks like a decent teen comedy! In this little flick, DJ Qualls stars as Dizzy Harrison, the geeky, boy-next-door type high school student who is getting tired of being bullied and picked on. When he tries to act cool, that only gets him into trouble with the law and he is arrested. While in jail, his cell mate teaches Dizzy "how to be cool" and helps to change Dizzy's image. Once Dizzy is out of jail, he goes to another high school where he suddenly found himself in the popular crowd. His new high school is inspired by him, and things start looking great until he comes across a bully who recognizes Dizzy from their old school. I hope THE NEW GUY doesn't flop in the box office like some other certain teen movies, because it really does look great with an awesome cast and an interesting script. I highly recommend that you all see THE NEW GUY in theaters!
