Rating: Summary: From Bad To Worse Review: In "Nothing To Lose" Nick Beam (Tim Robbins), a white executive from the suburbs of Los Angeles, is having a really bad day. To start with, he walks in on his wife in bed with another man. He's having a really rough time with his boss. And to top it all off, he gets carjacked by T.(Terrence) Paul (Martin Lawrence). Feeling he has "nothing to lose," Nick decides to turn the tables on this would be carjacker and take him for the action packed thrill ride of his life.In this 1997 comedy, directed by Steve Oedekerk, you will get 98 minutes of gut busting laughs. If you like comedies with lots of action, hold-ups, high speed chases, and revenge, I would recommend this movie to you. I give this film four stars because, while it is a very funny film, it does have a lot of foul language. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this film for young people, or people who prefer to keep young sensitive ears.

Rating: Summary: MARTIN AT HIS BEST Review: IN THIS MOVIE, A MAN [TIM ROBBINS] DISCOVERS HIS WIFE CHEATING, THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, HE GETS CARJACKED BY A THIEF [MARTIN LAWRENCE] THEN HE JUST LOSES HIS MIND. SUPRISINGLY FUNNY, AND MARTIN LAWRENCE AND TIM ROBBINS MAKE A VERY GOOD TEAM FOR A BUDDY MOVIE. IT'S FUNNY AND IT'S VERY FUN TO WATCH. I WOULD RECCOMEND THIS TO ANY MOVIE FAN THAT LIKES COMEDIES. A VERY FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING MOVIE FOR ALL.
Rating: Summary: LAWRENCE & ROBBINS FUNNY ¿ ¿ ¿ BUT Review: Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins are two tremendous Hollywood talents with a very broad range reaching from drama to comedy. Therefore, even with a dumb script Lawrence and Robbins made an excellent comedy team. They played off well one against the other. BUT • • • • . . . NOTHING TO LOSE opens with a stupid premise: a young advertising executive (Robbins) goes nuts when he mistakenly "catches" his gorgeous wife in bed with his boss. This launches the action in the movie along the lines of a guy run amok with an attitude of "nothing to lose" ... thinking he's lost his wife, and by default his career. While driving along in a daze, Lawrence jumps in his car in a failed attempt to carjack Robbins. Instead of handing over his car and wallet, Robbins goes on a suicide drive with the hapless would be holdup man holding on for dear life. Thus begins their adventure together. Gratutious racism instead of clever dialogue in NOTHING TO LOSE is offensive. When Eddy Murphy once in awhile responds in a white-guy, black-guy movie using the term "whitey" it's O.K. (e.g., TRADING PLACES and BEVERLY HILLS COP). When in a FAMILY THING (see my review), James Earl Ray asks his half brother Earl Pritcher (played by Robert Duvall), "how does it feel to be a colored?" that's O.K. too. These are in the context of the plot and characters, and it makes sense because it is consistent with the story line. But in NOTHING TO LOSE, Martin Lawrence keeps addressing Tim Robbins as "white boy" and "whitey," and it's NOT "O.K." Why? In the context of Lawrence's character (who we later get to know as a decent out of work, self-educated, unemployed, loyal family man black-guy) this incessant "whitey" and "white boy" is totally out of character. This can be so-called racism in reverse; a kind of stealth racism. It is still racism in a movie trying to pretend to be "hip" and "cool" .... and fails at both! Well that's the writer and director Steve Oedekerk 's fault. Instead of trying to immortalize himself on screen (he plays the wacky security guard), Oedekerk should have focued on making the movie! On the positive side, there are several good car chase scenes (special effects) and fairly humorous hold-up scenes. The similarly talented McGinley and Esposito played two real bad guy crooks competing with and pursuing the Lawrence/Robbins amateur crooks. In the end there is no morality or deep humor in the movie. Given the great acting talent available to Oedekerk, NOTHING TO LOSE wound up being a pretty limp product. This movie is worth seeing for the occasional funny scenes which Lawrence and Robbins manage to pull off .... but other than that, don't expect much from this flick.
Rating: Summary: Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins are an amazing duo. Review: Martin Lawrence, from the instant classic sit-com Martin, as well as other excellent movies and comedy, teamed with Tim Robbins from Shawshank Redemption. There will definitely be worthy results in this movie. It's a hilarious comedy featuring Tim Robbins as a executive who catches his wife in bed with his boss, and goes for a drive. Martin is waiting to car-jack Tim Robbins, however, he picked the wrong day to do it and Robbins takes off, bringing Martin with him. They rob a couple stores and eventually Tim Robbins concocts a plan to rob his boss, but while in the process of completing this move, he and Martin are trailed by two other criminals, and get into various encounters with them on their way, each one turns out to be hilarious. Just one of those movies you have to witness for yourself, it's a shame some people are criticizing Nothing To Lose because of the sound equipment used and just the situation in the movie. It doesn't matter how many times a black/white uniting movie is made just as long as they add something new and refreshing to it that makes it worth watching. And Nothing To Lose does just that. And criticizing a movie just because there's a little bit of swearing in it? Preposterous, it would be understandable if the entire movie was filled with bad words but this movie is definitely not one of those. In my opinion, this is a very good movie, but putting two talented actors together you shouldn't expect anything less. Nothing To Lose is a comedic, interesting and just all-around excellent film. This is coming from someone who doesn't even like movies that much. So listen to my advice, and try out Nothing To Lose, starring Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins.
Rating: Summary: Without a doubt the BEST movie ever... Review: Nothing to Loose is the best movie ever made, it is absolutely perfect. Funny, smart,... It contrasts the best life in the world with certainly not the best. I have watched this movie on a daily bases almost ever since it came out on video, and know every line by heart. There is nothing in this movie I would change. Whether this view is impartial (coming from the films biggest fan) or not, this movie is worth every penny. To be honest my VHS copy is so worn I think I may need to buy another. ... no joke!
Rating: Summary: How much more could go wrong in one day Review: Nothing to Lose (1997) has a running time of 97 minutes. Released by Touchstone Pictures with Steve Oedekerk director. Starring Martin Lawerence ( T. for Terrence Paul), Tim Robbins (Nick Beam) and Micheal McKean (Phillip Barrows). Nothing to Lose takes place in the suburbs of Los Angeles. This comedy describes how a bad day get worse and has a happy ending. The soundtrack for this movie adds to the comedy and was also released in 1997. This movie starts with Nick Beam and his wife talking in bed, playing a game to see who can keep a straight face while hearing each other versions of lies. Nick's wife tells him that she was cheating on him and the other guy was better in bed. The next morning as Nick Beam heads off for another day of work at the advertising company of Quality Design Corporation. The day begins with the usual meetings. Nick is later summoned to his boss Phillip Barrow's office and informed that he needs to fill in at a meeting. Which means that Nick has to change his plans with his wife. As Nick leaves the office, he picks up some flowers for his wife. After arriving home and does not see his wife, but hears some strange noises. Nick begins to investigate the source of the noises. As Nick approaches the door to the bedroom and finds his wife in bed with another man. Instead of confronting the situation, Nick leaves and learns that the man in bed is his boss. Nick gets into his SUV and begins to drive without any specific destination. He soon finds himself in the rough area of Los Angeles. This part of LA is not the best place for a wealthy, suburban white man. ( A day that is already going bad is about to get worse.) As Nick stops at a stoplight, out of nowhere T. Paul appears with a gun and attempts to carjack Nick Beam. The carjacking quickly takes a turn, because with Nick's day, he feels he has nothing to lose and ends up kidnapping T. As the ride continues Nick and T. end up in Arizona, at a diner, when Nick realizes that he does not have his wallet. Thanks to T. the bill is covered. The two men actually form a friendship despite the circumstances that brought them together. As the failed carjacking/kidnapping continues Nick and T.Paul learn more about one another than planned. Over the course of conversating, T. finds out the Nick's wife had cheated on him with his boss. And Nick learns the T. for Terrence is not a bad guy, but a family man down on his luck due to not being able to find a job. After overcoming the different obstacles of their ride, the two come up with a plan to get revenge on Nick's boss. Once the plan had been carried out, Nick learns that his wife did not cheat after all. Now, Nick plans to return what was taken, and this does not make T. happy and they each go their separate ways. But, by coincidence the two men (Nick and T.) come in contact and resume their friendship. Even though I found this movie to funny on a star scale from 1 to 5, I rate it as a 4 star comedy. Because it was not the best movie done with Martin Lawerence.

Rating: Summary: A great buddy comedy with an unlikely pair of "buddies" Review: Nothing To Lose is the best comedy of the year. It is hilarious! Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence, along with Giancarlo Esposito and John C. McGinley are the funniest pairs of guys in the same movie with some GREAT visual gags.
