Summary: One of the Greatest Films Ever Made
Review: Harlem Nights is one of the best movies ever made. It's a great period piece from the "roaring 20's". It has a cast of some of the greatest comic geniuses from every generation. Redd Foxx is classically funny in his usual manner paired with Della Reese; their exchange of witty banter throughout the entire movie leaves you cracking a smile. Eddie Murphy is as smooth as ever in one of his funniest films. Richard Pryor uses his subtle class to hold this one together. I know some of the language can be a bit much to some people who are not used to it being used as humor. A lot of critics did not think that this movie lived up to the cast involved in it. I am not sure what they were thinking that it should be. It couldn't have been any funnier. It has class, style, great costumes, good dialogue...great charisma between the actor/actresses. I think that if the critics didnt try to be so politically correct all of the time...they might have enjoyed this movie for what it is. Just good old fashioned fun.

Summary: Effort Doesn't Equal Payoff
Review: Murphy's directorial debut is long on good intentions and short on follow through. Occasional bits and pieces are funny or smart but the overall film is somewhat dull and contrived and not a little meanspirited. Can't say I'm terribly fond of the movie's treatment of women, either.

Summary: Hailarious,glamerous,action packed, fully loaded with humor.
Review: Eddie Murphy and his exceptional black cast are "some smooth,sweet,_ _ " - well, you have to see it for yourself. The hailarious, rapid fire dialog flows between characters that have so much affection and connection with each other it makes it easy to forget the lack of legitimacy of their "professional" endeavors. Each member of this gorgeous, fine cast make Arsenio's peek into a romp through Harlem in the late 1920's a classical gas. My entire family quotes many lines from Harlem Nights on a daily basis. This talented cast takes the dialog to a whole new level. Fasten your seat belt and hang on to your funny bone. This is a very hailarious movie.

Summary: Absolute garbage
Review: If there has ever been a bigger waste of talent than Harlem Nights, I haven't seen it yet.This movie is what happens when a big star (Eddie Murphy) is allowed to do whatever he wants by a big movie studio. So, he hires his family, friends and his 2 comedy influences Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor. They spent millions of dollars on wardrobe for this movie and about 5 minutes on the script. It's like they just made it up as they went along. They wanted to look good but left out the funny. Eddie Murphy should be ashamed of this movie. So, here is Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx being funny or entertaining. Quite an achievment. What a wasted opportunity.

Review: Harlem Nights Movie Review
Harlem Nights, or should I say Harlem Renaissance because that is how this movie changed comedy for all African-American comedians, I was shocked to see negative reviews of the movie though. Only because this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Many people thought that the movie fell short of its expectations, especially since it has an all-star cast of Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Arsenio Hall etc... I think this could be one of the funniest movies of all-time (that's my personal opinion anyway.) Though this movie is probably the best comedic movie with an all black cast, it's especially one of Eddie Murphy's funniest movies besides Coming to America. You can not compare this movie to one or even all of the comedians stand-up because that kind of comedy is far too different from a comedic movie.
This movie is set around the 1920's during the age of prohibition. It deals with mobsters and night clubs. The plot is that there is the high profile Italian mobster who wants a piece of Sugar Ray's (played by Richard Pryor) profits on his illegal night club. Now you will see in the movie everyone goes to Sugar's night club, all the high profile blacks and whites go to his spot to dance, drink and mingle. Sugar has this hot head, smart mouthing adopted son nick named quick (played by Eddie Murphy) because he's quick to shoot someone in they, well you get the rest. The whole movie is about them trying to get a mobster off their backs. Dealing with crooked cops and laundering money, and all of this is filled with comedy throughout the whole entire movie. I tell you that this film will have you laughing for days.
This movie is a classic as far as comedy goes for the black comedians. This movie was the stepping stone for many small time comedians, which elevated their career to another level. This film will probably never get old; the new generation that gets a grip on this will laugh hysterically as I did. This movie is genuine work of art, not many people realize that without Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx. You would not have your popular comedians like Dave Chappell, Charles Murphy, Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac. All these comedians exist because someone in front of them paved the way and that is why no one can ever tell me that this is not the funniest movie produced by African-Americans.

Summary: This movie is Pimpin
Review: I think this movie is pretty damn sweet. I tend to watch this movie when I'm tired but don't want to sleep. The storyline is very well thought out. The movie is basically about a group of 1930's nightclub owners that are being forced out of their market. They decide to take the mobster that's pressuring them for his dough. Typical Mobster fashion. It's more intersting because the characters are black.
The cast is out of control including: Eddy Murphy, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Jasmine Guy, Della Reese, Arsenio Hall, Danny Aiello.. Damn, There's many more you'll recognize.
Get it.

Review: This movie disappointed me and the viewing public at large when it was released in theaters. Eddie Murphy is, if nothing else, a smart comedian and observer of people. What he's made here appears to be a movie he first dreamed up when he was 11 years old and heard about the history of Harlem. The problem is, it's got exactly that level of sophistication, too. It could, in fact, be very enjoyable for boys aged 10-13, given the crude humor, simple plot, and overly aggressive interaction of the characters. Nevertheless, I can't recommend it to parents because of the extreme profanity.

Review: This movie is just that the greatest of all time. Eddie Murphy had me [really] laughing on this movie. What makes it so, funny is that the movie seems as if it is not evening trying to make you laugh. Red Foxx (I think that's his name) was one person on the movie that you could not stop laughing at becuse he always had some slick comment to say to everyone. This is a classic and it never get's old, it old school comedy at it best. Eddie Murphy's best movie he ever played in! Pay your respect to the legends in the comedy game and see this movie it's worth your time.
