Summary: Great For 8 and Up
Review: I got to rent the movie 4 days before the actual realease date so I am here to tell you what to expect. Expect a duel of comedy from both Steve Martin [drool] and Queen Latifah! I think there was only one in-appropriate for the under 12 range (seeing as Im 14). but other than that, total greatness BUY THIS

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is NOT a Romantic Comedy
Review: The way the previews advertise this you think you are renting a quirky romantic comedy (Like Just Married) however upon viewing this I discovered that this was not a Romantic Comedy (Thank God) but a Slap Stick Comedy (which is why a number of people don't like it).

The idea behind this movie is that Steve Martin is a lawyer who is only focused on Work. He ignores his kids, lost his wife, and basically has no social life. After he sets up a blind internet date with what he hoped was a hot blonde to his horror he discovered that it was Queen Latifa who also wants some legal help.

From there the laughs keep on continuing as Queen LAtifa follows Steve to these ritzy WHite people contry clubs, to his place of work and so on. Meanwhile she also helps him get back into his kids life and discover that there is more to life than just work.

This is a funny classic Steve Martin Comedy. It involves a certain degree of one liners, strong sarcasm, and a certain degree of physical comedy. All in all this is a funny movie and NOT a Romantic Comedy.

Summary: Good Steve Martin Movie
Review: This is a pretty good movie. Steve Martin and Queen Latifah bring a strange chemistry to the stage that make for an exciting, fun filled movie experience!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: average even in it's own genre
Review: I was expecting something like the different social and cultural values juxtaposed together. What I found is nothing near that and in fact it is pretty shamefull. There were some funny parts but every event here seems to be similar to some other movie. Every scene makes an unintentional recall to another movie. The worst part is when the movie starts to have a moralist tone. Surely the director and screenwritter don't know what they're talking about.

Summary: this movie rocks!
Review: this was one of the funniest movies I've seen this year. It is imposible not to laugh. i can't wait until this hillarious comedy comes out on dvd!

Summary: a MUCH needed devotion from the norm!!!
Review: Let's face it, these days, the theater screens just DO NOT have that much to offer- nothing but boring, overrated movies about some big thing in history starring Ben Affleck or Mel Gibson, boring romantic movies, stupid kiddie movies that have been done 10 times before, and so on...

Leave it to the great STEVE MARTIN to finally put something on the screen worth seeing! Martin has always been one of my all time favorite comedians, because I love how he knows how to be funny without trying too hard. This is definitley one of his best ever- Up there with "The Jerk", "Father of the Bride", and "Planes Trains & Automobiles"- I loved it so much I actually ended up seeing it TWICE- quite a rare thing for me to do these days...

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because some of the jokes in it were a little too racist- I'd rather not say any of them.. just see it & you'll know what I mean

In addition to Steve Martin's always great performance, Queen Latifah does a great job as well, Euguene Levy is great, and Betty White is hillarious as the old lady who lives across the street!! I also thought Kimberly J Brown did a good job as the daughter, not to mention shes pretty hot :)

So anyway,, I just want to warn you that this movie isnt really for everyone- if you're easily offended by white/black jokes,, well you might wanna pass this one.

But if you're not,, SEE IT- It's a hillarious movie from beginning to end, and a perfect heal from the wound that the Jackass Movie put on the comedy world! Even though it's still kind of early in the year for me to rate this as the best movie of 2003, I might as well go ahead, considering the stuff thats coming out these days...

Great job Steve, thanks for finally bringing a breath of fresh air to the movie scene these days!!!

Summary: Queen Latifah plus Steve Martin = FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!
Review: Ok, ok, this whole type of thing has been done before, and yes, some of the racial stuff does go a little over the top sometimes, but overall this movie will have you laughing the whole way through! Besides, as far as the racial stuff is concerned, I think people need to realize that stuff like that does still happen in our society. The point of the movie though is the contrast between Steve Martin and Queen Latifah, which, in my opinion, is almost perfect. I loved almost everything about this movie and look forward to adding it to my private collection.

Summary: Pleasantly Surprized
Review: I went and saw this movie at a dollar theater on "tightwad Tuesday" for $.50. Despite how dumb the movie looked to me, I actually really enjoyed it.
The demographics of the audience we saw it with were close to 50% white, 50% black and EVERYONE was laughing pretty damn hard. I like how Queen Latifa (a beautiful & talented comedian, actress, and singer) was able to make you see that a very smart, educated, upper class black woman can speak English by the book, but may choose to sound more ethnic because that's who she is. Anyone who thinks we American's don't have any heritage/culture, think again. Every race/culture/clique has their own version of English, their own style of dressing, etc. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes they don't but we share a history and an American pride. I loved the way this movie makes you laugh at the ridiculousness of your own prejudices without being preachy.
Steve Martin used to be my favorite comedian, but as of late he hasn't done anything spectacular. At the end of this movie he has a chance to show his versitility as an actor, his talent as a comedian, and the ability for an old dog to learn new tricks. He and Queen Lattifah make an unlikely but enjoyable pair. And of course I've always loved Jean Smart who plays Martin's ex-wife.
I give it 3 1/2 stars.

Summary: Fun For The Whole Family - Go Steve!
Review: BRINGING DOWN TH HOUSE was a great refreshing film and thanks to the chemistry that Steve Martin (Parenthood, Bowfinger) and Queen Latifah (Chicago, Sphere) had with each other this film was interesting and believable. They looked like they were having so much fun and it would be great just to see all the out takes - I bet there were many.

Filled with fun, farce and action, this film will make see that it takes all kinds of people to make relationships work. Sometime the least place you expect to get help is the place or person that helps you best!

Directed by Adam Shankman (The Wedding Planner, A Walk To Remember) the film tells the story of a recently separate couple that finds the Internet as a new source for dating. Low and behold Steve finds out that sometimes the Internet can be dangerous, misleading and often not real. Steve thinks Queen is someone else, but Queen has a purpose and learns a lesson in life while Steve learns a lesson in love.

Enter the best friend played by Eugene Levy (Father Of The Bride, Best In Show) who is not only stupid but so much like a fish-out-of-water that the more he tries to be "hip" the more hysterical it gets. Eugene and Steve have a great time feeding off each other.

This movie is fun for the whole family. It's got some adult themes, crime, hostages and even a little bit of mystery, but overall it will make you laugh. Simple and light. Just have fun! 5-20-03
