Summary: Just OK
Review: I didn't really know what to expect, only that I had heard mixed things when it was out in the theaters. And after watching it I'd have to say I had mixed feelings about it. First off, I have to compliment the screenplay, for no other reason than it was penned by a third cousin Joel Weiner who is credited as 'J.H. Wyman'. I really did like the concept of parallel storytelling with the recounting of an old Mexican legend and the modern story, but it ultimately wasn't enough to hold it all together. Brad Pitt just doesn't do well with the main character who, like Griffin Dunne in After Hours, has a little black cloud over everything he does. This makes me wonder why the heck After Hours isn't on DVD?!?! Julia Roberts was ... OK ... but the role wasn't anything we haven't seen before. James Gandolfini was the real stand out in a wonderfully complex role. He plays it so well that you wish he could have been in more of the movie. Gene Hackman also pops up at the end for what must have been one day of shooting. Can't wait to see him in the upcoming David Mamet film Heist. [Geoffrey Kleinman DVDTalk.com]

Summary: It's like juggling Mexican jumping beans!
Review: Boy has girl. Boy tries to keep girl by severing his connections to organized crime but has to do one more job of retrieving an antique Mexican pistol which is cursed. Boy loses girl. Girl gets kidnapped to insure that the Boy gets the job done. Lots of people try to make sure the Boy doesn't get the job done. Mayhem ensues.

If you like sequential movies, if you don't like movies that jump back and forth in time and place, if you are a parent that must leave the room constantly, do not get this movie. If you want to live in a vicarious boy/girl relationship with Julia Roberts or Brad Pitt then do not get this movie.

Cinemaniacs and filmography sickos (such as myself) that watch a movie 5 times to figure out that "cool camera angle" or particular acting dynamic, come on in. The water is FINE!

If you want to see a good but strange movie that truly shows J.R.'s subtle but amazing breadth of ability then see "The Mexican". Brad Pitt also gives a good performance. The production stands on its own as suitably weird, trust me, but if dropping acid were legal I'd make the suggestion just because it couldn't get any more bizarre. Warning: you may feel tempted to adopt Leroy (played by James Gandolfini), the hit man reluctantly getting in touch with his true self. Absolutely fantastic. He plays this with more realism (if anything in this movie could be considered realistic) and balance than Robert DeNiro in Anaylyze This. I really look forward to seeing more of his work.

I only gave it 3 stars because I felt that the plot device (the cursed pistol) was a bit meaningless even in farcicle mode, and the movie doesn't seem to hit its mark squarely or successfully as some hybrid cross between a continuous story and a contiguous collection (ala Twenty Bucks or Four Rooms).

The acting alone is worth seeing this film. J.R.'s snap switch between angry girlfriend to scared hostage is very good, but it's her subtle shift between hostage to guidance counselor that I really loved. It's a lot of jumping around and she doesn't lose you. THAT'S what makes Ms. Roberts a great actress.

Brad Pitt also did a credible job. I just don't think the story shifts or dialog had the same opportunities to show off his virtuosity in the same way as he did in Meet Joe Black.

Summary: Great actors, good story... too much Hollywood
Review: You will laugh a lot; this comedy is hilarious. Unfortunately, it suffers from too much Hollywood and demanding viewers may leave disappointed. Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts are great actors, but you wish you could see them more together. Both of them, however, deliver an excellent performance. The setting into Mexican environment adds to the overall funny atmosphere. If you are a diehard fan of Brad Pitt and/or Julia Roberts, you will want to own this one.

Summary: Utterly awful! America spent 60+ mill on watching this! Ugh!
Review: Pitt has proven time & time again that he is a rare breed! Hollywood's pretty boy WITH talent (Meet Joe Black, Kalifornia, Fight Club). Roberts makes "girlie" flicks and, in my opinion, ranks up there with G.Close in good looks! Uh-huh! Pitt & Roberts are the unlikely couple that go seperate ways after she finds out he has to do a "job" in Mexico. From here it goes downhill! There's even characters that have NO point being in this flick! Sappy, Hollywood ending...

Summary: Mexican pistol.
Review: Two hours of not-so-funny comedy/thriller all concerning a Mexican pistol that none of the audience gives a s... about. (Bad McGuffin). Pitt and Roberts are both very cute, but Gandolfini steals the show. A few amusing moments, but mostly boring.

Summary: The Mexican
Review: Being that I saw this movie a couple of months ago, I cannot tell you much about the plot. Basically it is about a couple and they have a different view on how there relashionship should be. After an arguement, BRAD PITT goes to Mexico, and JULIA ROBERTS goes to Las Vegas. As the movie progresses, it starts to get more and more interesting. Soon enough there both in a perdicament and end up..... Just see the movie, I can fully reccomend this to anyone who is looking for a great movie!
