Rating: Summary: the critics totally blew it on this one: It is GREAT! Review: Yeah, it's not as emotionally rich as 'Fargo.' It's a comedy! And an amazing one. These characters are so much deeper than they have any business being. The dialogue is textured and hilarious. I love this movie. As usual, the brits got it and the yanks didn't.
Rating: Summary: funny Review: "mind if I smoke a jay?"
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest films of all time. Review: Could this movie be the funniest of all time? Maybe. It's extremely hilarious! It does seem to be more of a "guy" flick, and you do have to watch it a couple times, but it is a real belly laugh. I've always like Jeff Bridges, but he earns new respect here. Goodman is classic and Buesmi isn't seen enough. All star cast. Hilarious fun! Don't miss it.
Rating: Summary: FUNNIER THAN 'AUSTIN POWERS' Review: This is the funniest movie I have ever had seen! The 'Dude' is hilarious, and John Goodman is priceless as 'Walter' the deranged Vietanm vet. Goodman's standout performance made him my favorite character of the movie. Buscemi and Tuturo are also pure genious. This is, without a doubt, the funniest movie I have ever seen. Watch it more than once to fully understand it, and to catch all of the underlying humor. It is funnier than Austin Powers.
Rating: Summary: A film ahead of its time Review: Only the chosen ones will grasp the true greatness of this film. The rest of you can watch "Home Improvement" reruns.
Rating: Summary: Don't cheat yourself with only one viewing! Review: The Big Lebowski should come with a warning label: Please Watch Twice. This is a movie that behaves like the Jack Benny program (Boy, what a juxtaposition THAT is!), it makes a joke, makes it again, and then makes it later in the show. I can guarantee that nobody will catch every joke the first time viewing, but after you watch it more and more, you start to say to yourself "Hey! I get it now!" And you feel very satisfied. It also behave like a Harold Ramis movie - it succeeds on two different levels: 1 The crudeness to appeal to the man in everyone (Inside joke) and 2 The intellectual "smart jokes" that appeal to pompous scholars (such as myself-more pompous than a scholar). If you can withstand the language, this movie is quite a treat. Great performances by Bridges, Buscemi, Moore, Huddleston, and the two best: John Goodman as Walter and John Tuturro [sic] as Jesus
Rating: Summary: Genuinely Funny...What's this day of rest s**t Review: The good thing about this film is that it does not pretend to be something that it isn't. It sets its stall out very early on that it is not going to be a high concept film which will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Instead the Coen brothers make sure that they make the audience laugh as much as possible. Consequently a strong plot is substituted for a bunch of very funny characters. The most outrageous and hilarious of which has to be "Jesus" Santana. He is only in the film for two scenes but those two moments had me literally in stitches. John Turturro's performance as the continental bowler who has a very basic grasp of the English Language is worth the price of the video alone. There are also two dream sequences in the film, and in these sequences the Coen brothers show off their originality to the full. Initially I thought that these dream sequences had just been added just for the sake of it. But seen again I saw the errors of my ways. In conclusion I have to say that the "Big Lebowski" does exactly what it says on the tin, it will make you laugh no matter who you are.
Rating: Summary: A great movie Review: This movie was totally awesome. Nowhere else have I seen such a hilarious film. With all of the crazy things the coens threw in like Jesus, Little Larry, the germans. The Big Labowski is a must see.
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE Review: A really great dark comedy; hilarious yet disturbing. My favorite comedy along with Blazing Saddles.
Rating: Summary: You got any of that good Sarsparilla? Review: How can you not fall in love with this movie the first time you watch it. I saw it for the first time a couple months ago and now I watch it almost every day, yes yes. With a wack cast including the mysterious "Stranger", a brilliant job by Brant ("Wonderful woman, Mrs. Lebowsky, we're all very fond of her"), and how can you not love Quintana ("Me and Liam, we gonna F-you up. You said it man, nobody F-s with the Jesus"). I couldn't reccomend it any more, and... well...like...you know! The Dude abides, man.
