Summary: "Is this your homework, Larry?"
Review: This is quite possibly the funniest movie ever made, and one of my very favorites. If you haven't seen it, buy it. Its only drawback is excessive profanity, but it blends with the movie and generally makes it funnier. Buy it.

Summary: The Coens do it again
Review: The Big Lebowski almost...almost...conquers Fargo for title of best Coen Brothers movie. Anyone who enjoys their work will find it very funny, and their humour is taken to surreal heights this time around. A lot of people don't like this film, but let me tell you something. Compare this to any other films of the 90s and it comes out as one of the best. People forget that we are so inundated with absolutely banal cinema that once in a while, when something good does come along, we miss out because we're too busy watching rubbish like Armaggedon or Titanic. Script first, then film - that's the way the Coens do it, and it always gets brilliant results. Any scenes with the nihilists in this film are laugh out loud funny, and Bridges is so apathetic it seems like he really is The Dude. Coen brothers films are emminently quotable, and this one is no exception, along with a series of setpieces that are marvellously mad - just watch the scene where Goodman goes postal on a car. The dialogue is fresher than anything Tarantino can do, the only other person able to reproduce the spoken language so well being Elmore Leonard. Now there's a prospect - a Leonard novel adapted by the Coens. We can hope. The interview on the disc is quite interesting if only to see how the Coens hate being interviewed, moving onto the subject of carpets instead of the actual film. Nice moving menus, although they could have done with a bit of music, but DVD can take you to all those brilliant scenes in the blink of an eye, so buy this liitle beauty - you won't be dissapointed.

Summary: my personal favorite
Review: this is the one movie that i could watch continuously and never be bored. right on, coens. congratulations to all involved on the cinematic masterpiece you have created. i find myself thinking of my nutcase friends everytime i see this movie. the best film roles to date by both bridges and goodman, and the film wouldn't be the same without the simpleton nuances of steve buscemi.

Summary: Classic and trippy
Review: This was one of the best movies I've seen in years. Great comedy, great dialogue, plot; it had everything. This was also John Goodman at his best. Some good advice? Smoke up and get high during the dream sequences. Oh man, what a trip!

Summary: The Big Labowski
Review: "The Big Labowski" is the best movie of the decade as far as Im concerned. I don't know how some reviewers said the acting was bad or that the dialogue was bad. This movie is the funniest movie I have ever seen. Since I saw it for the first time in Santa Cruz, Ca last year I have seen it a minumum of once a month. I Reccomend this movie for anyone who wants to laugh. This is also a good movie to get high with. The "Dude" was great, and I hope there is going to be sequel.

Summary: The Dude Abides
Review: This movie is absurdism at its best. The Big Lebowski is perhaps the epiphany of a long lineage of zany yet insightful comedies produecd by the Coen brothers. Set in Los Angeles, the intricate plot spins around Jeff Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) and his friends, Walter (Jeff Goodman) and Donny (Steve Buscemi) and their adventures trying to retrieve a briefcase holding a million dollars. It is a well filmed and superbly acted commentary on the modern social condition. Plus its absolutely hilarious! It gets better every time you see it. Unless you're easily offended by "naughty" language, you'd have to be dead not to enjoy this movie.

Summary: .
Review: The Coen brothers are okay in my book, but I'm not crazy about this one. I strongly disagree that the dialogue is anywhere near as wonderful as it's been said to be. Since it's the Coen brothers it's a given that there are going to be some very clever and funny moments, but a great deal of the dialogue seems painfully forced and awkward, especially during the first half-hour or so. John Goodman is especially bad. I *like* John Goodman, and he was incredible in Barton Fink, but here, it just seems like he's trying too hard. During one of the opening scenes in the bowling alley, when Goodman's character is introduced, I felt like I was watching one of his not-so-funny Saturday Night Live skits, but with loads of profanity added in. And that's another thing ... the profanity. Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with excessive profanity whatsoever in and of itself, but ... it just feels very forcefully inserted in this film. The style of the dialogue reminded me of Quentin Tarantino's, but ... in a really poorly done way. However, the film does have things going for it. The awkwardness of the script lessens as you get into the movie a bit, and there are some wonderful scenes. John Turturro is hilarious (and such a fine, fine actor!) The visual style is as rich as can be. The in-jokes and references are generally amusing, though they give the movie a self-indulged sort of feel. In any case, take it for what it's worth, but ... there are better films.

Summary: So powerful: the dialogue sticks in your head for days!
Review: Hey, it's NOT just a "guy" flick. I am a female and it is one of my favorite movies! It's not just the lines the actors say it's the WAY they say them. Every little intonation is brilliant!

Summary: what condition my condition is in
Review: This movie is without a doubt the most crude and funniest of all time. From Walter's discussions of the Rambam to the Dude's listening to a tape of bowling, it has something for everybody.

Summary: One of my all-time Favorites
Review: Wow! This has to be one of my favorite movies ever. Just another example of the great skills of the Cohen brothers. Jeff Briges is at his best with this wonderfully amusing movie and histerical movie. My advise to anyone wanting a good laugh to buy this movie!
