Rating: Summary: Off the Wall & Great! Review: If you liked Fargo you will like "The Big Lebowski". Great Music Too!!! I come up with this opinion after just one viewing - but it won't be my last.
Rating: Summary: I never need to see another movie. Review: The distillation of this films essence: Dude driving the last of what appears to be 150 or so (bent) nails into the section of 2x4 in front of his door, wedging the chair in place under the doorknob, and then turning to walk halfway across the room when the door opens. Outward. The chair crashes to the floor and the goons stroll right in. The absolute futility of anything he has ever tried to do to actively effect his life is laid bare in that moment. And it's funny as hell. Now I'll just "shut the f*** up, Donny."
Rating: Summary: Great and non-common movie about "life-is-for-dudes" Review: Great movie, with lot's of humour. For non english people, good slang words to learn ! Good actors too ! See the famous, simply "Dude"
Rating: Summary: Best black comedy Review: The Coen brothers don't always get it right. Their darkly comic, surreal style is one of the most original in the business but on occasions the end result doesn't quite hit the mark. This is definitely not one of those films. The Big Lebowski introduces us to the world of the dude, a world in which so much happens from a mere obession with a household rug. But where this film really succeeds is in the sheer quality of the dialogue between the Dude, and the excellent John Goodman as the pacificst hating, Jewish convert, Walter. In a new departure from previous roles, Jeff Bridges copes more than admirably and produces some of the films most memorable scenes. Notably his inarticulate rambling in the back of the limo, trying to justify to the Big Lebowski why they failed to deliver the ransom money. But this film is clearly not another run of the mill film about greed and how it affects the human character. The Coen brothers are no where near pretentious enough for that. In fact the Big Lebowski isn't a film about all that much. Just two laid back bowling obsessives who see their chance to make a quick buck and fail miserably. The results aren't quite slapstick. The quality of the script ensures that. Although when they are, they emphatically hit the bullseye of the comedy dartboard. Who can forget the ashes scene on the cliff? The plot occasionally meanders, but such is the lifestyle of the Dude and Walter, this is all the more appropiate. What really makes the film is the small touches the Coen brothers use - Walter's obsession with remaining faithful to his Jewish vows and the use of characters like poor old Donny, a vehicle purely for the use of the Dude and Walter. The film, however, far from relies solely on gimics. The overall characterisation, humour and originality ensure that The Big Lebowski is the best black comedy of the nineties.
Rating: Summary: "We're talking about unchecked aggression here" Review: The Coen brothers are masters at what they do: making movies. This film actually gets funnier as you watch it over and over and realize the brilliance of the dialogue and the plot. The way these people think and talk is a whole new type of character. You're KILLING your father Larry!!! These are people who just relax and enjoy looking at life through a less common lens. Pay attention to backgrounds, patterns, random quotations and think about their relavance and/or prevalence in the film, in LA, in the 90s, or in life. The setting of the gulf war is a good place to start. Here's a hint, its not irrelevant.
Rating: Summary: DO YOU MIND IF I DO A "J", MAN? Review: BEST DIALOGUE I'VE HEARD IN A MOVIE... READ THE SCREENPLAY LIKE A NOVEL AFTER SEEING THIS ABOUT 7 TIMES. IF YOU'VE NEVER VISITED L.A., BELIEVE ME, THIS FLICK IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. BEST SCENE - THE DUDE'S DEFENSIVE MONOLOGUE IN THE LIMO W/ LEBOWSKI & BRANDT.
Rating: Summary: the most complex and funny movie ever made Review: in this movie the coen brothers were able to create multi-dimensional characters out of people who were only in the movie or 1 or 2 minutes. You notice different things every time you watch it. It makes you want to move to L.A., go bowling, and be the Dude!!
Rating: Summary: This is the dude, man. Review: This movie could be the best thing that ever happened to me. After seeing this movie, I immediately decided to memorize it (due to the extremely funny lines) and get hold of every piece of Lebowski memorabilia I could. So what am I saying? You should definetly buy it...
Rating: Summary: This is one of the 5 best films ever made Review: I love this movie sooooooo much. its so funny. buy it no
Rating: Summary: Come on! It's the best. Are we gonna split hairs here? Review: What can I say, anyone who gives this a low rating shouln't be looking for it on Amazon.com. Am I wrong? They need to breathe. They're being very "undude". If they only saw it once, it's not enough. If they have seen it 100 times, it's not enough. Labowski (the bum) gives laziness a good name. There's always something new to see in the movie. It's really "tied together" well. Wonderfully hillarious storyline.
