Summary: Old Fan Says This One Doesn't Age
Review: My favorite novella is "The Quiet Man." The movie is loosely based on the story. Sometimes very loosely. Nonetheless, its themes of love and honor are ageless. I have watched it many times since I was a boy. Some of the material is now offensive, like the woman offering Shawn a stick "to hit the lady with." But, this movie is set in a time and a culture that was politically incorrect by our standards. If you really want the cultural aspect, I suggest the novella over the movie. The biggest difference between the two is not the fight scene at the end, though that is significantly different. The biggest difference is that the novella was made to move you and the movie was made for enjoyment.

Summary: Loved this other side of John Wayne!
Review: I must say, prior to viewing this movie, I have avoided movies that boasted John Wayne as the top-billed actor because I always associated him with Westerns, of which I am not a big fan. However, my opinions of John Wayne changed after watching the Quiet Man. It is a lovely, charming love story. Wayne shows exceptional range in the role of Sean Thorton. Wayne and Maureen O'Hara have wonderful chemistry and are a treat to watch together. The supporting cast is equally talented and entertaining. The music, dialogue, scenery, and romance all weave together beautifully for this enchanting tale. Not only did I love the movie, I am now a John Wayne fan. I am anxious to see other movies of his, particularly those he made with Maureen O'Hara.

Summary: The picture quality and color will amaze you.
Review: We just bought the DVD after loving the movie for many years. What a thrill it is for fans to see Ireland and your favorite cast of characters in such vivid color. The experience is almost like watching it for the first time. It is great to have a copy that will not deteriorate. Included on the DVD is "The Making of The Quiet Man" which is also something fans of the movie will enjoy.

Summary: A Message From Mr. Movie Buff
Review: I watched The Quiet Man the other night, and it was very good. Great acting, great directing, great dialouge, you name it! The Quiet Man is a movie in which John Wayne plays an ex-boxer who gives up boxing after he accidently kills an opponent in the ring. He moves back to his homeland of Ireland where he meets Maureen O'Hara, and his interest in life is rivived. He makes an enemy out of her brother, the bully of the town. He avoids fighting him throughout the entire film, until the end when he refuses to give Maureen her dowry she is supposed to inherit. At first Wayne refuses to fight him, but when Maureen threatens to leave him, Wayne drags her back to town and confronts her brother in a fight that makes an amazing climax. I thought this was a very good movie, and I really enjoyed it. I was a bit disappointed in the fight sequence though, I went in expecting a really good, long fight, but it didn't last as long as I thought it would, and it wasn't nearly as good as I expected it to be. But I guess that's just me. Still a classic, and I would recommend this to anybody to watch!

Summary: deligfhtful funny powerful acting and story plot
Review: beautiful view of old world style dating set in hills and culture of pre wartorn ireland, with all the quaintness of a leprechuan's drunken dream. admitedlly there is some violence but profanity is kept at a bare minum if anyand violence is not sole aspect of movie rather as in other john wayne flicks it is about the ruggedness of the human spirit and struggle to do rightversus the easy out of doing evil.

Summary: "There'll be no patty fingers if you please"
Review: An all time classic, charming, funny, witty, romantic. John Wayne can throw me onto his bed anytime and I wouldn't lock the door! The final scenes are so well choreographed but I won't spoil it by giving away the plot.......
