Summary: The Ultimate Acid Trip
Review: Bob Rafaelson and Jack Nicholson were at a party with the monkees while all of them were stoned and asked them questions about their fame, their desires, and their fantasies and the result was Head, a psychodelic, plotless mindtrip which flows like a good Monty Python Episode.

Those tuning in to see the rapid-fire improv-filled laughtrack which was the TV series are in for a shock as this has none of their ultrasticom comedy, but hey! Hey! it's still the monkees....everything is just a bit more abstract and surreal :) And let's not forget the music! Wow! The monkees have never sounded so good, writing nearly all of their material. Mickey shines on Psychodelic "Porpoise Song" (while we see him jump off a bridge into a mermaid-filled sea) and the sweet ballad "aas We go Along. Mike Nesmith really rocks on "Circle Sky" and Peter Tork gives us more songwriting weirdness with his rapid fire "Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?"

This is a good movie to sit back with your friends and watch entranced at its path. Lots of fun cameos by the likes of Teri Garr, Frank Zappa, and of course Victor Mature and his hair!

Groovy!

Summary: HEAD OVER HEELS
Review: There are some that say the sixties weren't as wonderful as they are, and for those naysayers, we have HEAD, the Monkees' only film, directed by Bob Rafaelson and co-written by Smilin' Jack Nicholson. The movie is a marvel--unsuspectedly so--in so many areas of craft, expertise, and deliberate artistry that one is flabberghasted by what only SEEMS to be slapdash and happenstance. A sixties mind-bender? An LSD-induced psychodrama? Possibly. But HEAD features so much good music, so much good acting, so much humor, and so much all around technical brio, that it must be ranked up near 2001: A Space Odyssey as one of those "artifacts from the sixties" that put to shame much of the current CGI-generated trash and guano. Without "computer effects"--and with good-old fashioned analog inventiveness, as in the miraculous solarization effects, HEAD proves to even the casual viewer to be a remarkable piece of work. The Monkees could certainly act better than almost any "prefab" group cobbled together since then, from New Kids on the Block to In Sync to Boyz 2 Men. The music? Well, it was the Monkees, which was the Beatles, which was a paragon of popular music for its all-around quality. The question is, for the modern viewer--as opposed to the old hippy who may have seen this film while sucking on a hash pipe in the Haight thirty years ago--is the film entertaining? See for yourself. And if the film is good in terms of the basic prerequisites of entertainment, it STILL packs a wallop as social satire, putting the spikes, prickles, and poniards in such worthy targets as consumerism, media overload, and the cloaca of "showbiz." HEAD is, in that respect, STILL--er--"with it" and "relevant" today. Buy this film. Sure. It's an inflated twenty bucks. But don't blame the producers for trying to earn a buck in a devalued-dollar society. HEAD is actually one of those flicks that's WORTH the post-Alan Greenspan buckeroos. So drop out and tune in, brothers and sisters. This HEAD will turn yours around.

Summary: Above All Heads
Review: This movie shows all the rises and falls of the Monkees careers. They definitely showed their "last horras". It was full of action, adventure, and fun! The Monkees really show their talent and humor in this movie/DVD "Head". I recommend you and anyone else to see it!

Summary: "And it looks like we made it once again!"
Review: "Here they come, walkin down the street. They get the funniest looks from, all the critics they meet!" HEAD. Original promotion for this movie was a poster of just a guys head, and at the bottom said "Coming to a theatre Near you", with no mention of The Monkees. This is a DIE-HARD Monkees fan movie, or if you are intrigued about them. In this movie Bob Rafelson and Bert Shnider(the creators of the monkees) wanted to kill them off. This typically wasn't a monkees episode when you have one of the monkees commiting suicide in the first minute of the film. Well if your a monkees fan you will class this as a break through monkees film...

Summary: Head
Review: If you think the Monkees are just a made-up Bubble Gum band from the a late 60's t.v. show then you are in for a shock. This is a must have movie for any die-hard Monkees fan and a true cult classic. Sure it has some odd moments, but after watching it you'll never see the Monkees or the 60's in the same way again. It is one of the prizes of my video collection, no matter how many times I see it I alway see something new.

Summary: The Ultimate Monkees Experience!
Review: "Head". What is it, what does it mean? I don't know (I really don't think anyone does), and I really don't care. All I know is that this movie is far better than a lot of people (most of whom probably couldn't even give you the title of a single Monkees song) say it is. Granted if you're only a fan of the Monkees T.V. show and their first couple of albums, you're probably not going to derive much pleasure from this darker, psychadelic view of the band.

This movie is infamous for its lack of plot and storyline, but this doesn't stop "Head" from being an enjoyable little film with more twists and turns than "Wild Things" and "Pulp Fiction" combined (by the way, this movie is so much better than either of those two cinematic pieces of garbage). "Head" also features some of the band's most sophisticated and thought provoking songs, too. Infact, in my opinion, "The Porpoise Song" (heard both at the beginning and end of the movie) is one of the best songs ever recorded by the Monkees.

Well, that's pretty much all I'm going to say about this film, it truly is something you must see to believe and appreciate. So if you don't believe in experimenting by viewing other styles of film, just go ahead and stick with the boring "run of the mill" schlock that Hollywood keeps producing today and skip this cinematic diamond in the ruff. Otherwise, make it a point to buy or rent this movie as soon as possible.

Summary: I could see why it failed.....
Review: I understand that this project was to poke fun at the Monkees manufactured image. But to some it is a movie that drags badly in some spots. I would not recommend this to young viewers that are getting started on the Monkees. Seeing Howard Coasell and Terri Garr was a real treat! Even seeing Micky blow up that Coke machine was really cool! If the creators wanted to kill the Monkees project in a big way, they almost did it in one film. The best thing about the Movie was the DANDRUFF sequence... The bad thing is that Davy managed to escape and got to dance with Toni Basel, who would go on to do the chearleader video "MICKY..." other then that it was a miserable attempt of a film......

Summary: I was happiest when it ended............
Review: Why can't you rate lower then one star? Depressing. This whole movie was watching the Monkees kill off the Monkees. They had some talent, some. The music was alright, when you could understand the words. I have seen the Monkees perform since this, and in their "old age" they are finally getting better.Somewhat. At the end of the movie, I loaded my gun and had to decide wether to shoot the tv,DVD Player or the DVD! Only a "diehard" Monkee Fan would like this movie( after they smoked 6 or 7 of those funny little brown cigarettes). But,otherwise,it was "ok".
