Summary: CLEAN AND LOTS OF FUN!!
Review: I noticed that one of the previous reviewers considers this movie "outdated", and "pre-pubescent." Why? Because, unlike You've Got Mail, the main characters aren't shacking up with someone else before they meet? Because the fact that the boss's adulterous wife isn't actually shown in bed with her slimy lover? Because it's clean and seems to be missing the "political correctness" of today's Hollywood agenda? This is a classic, extremely well made film that doesn't need all the garbage to hold an audience. Shop Around the Corner is a love story that can be enjoyed by adults as well as kids.

Summary: It's like Kevin Smith's "Clerks" only with out the swearing
Review: Ok maybe not......Yes yes yes this film is a very sweet romantic comedy. Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan have such wonderful chemestry in this movie. But it is not just the romance between the two main characters that snagged me. Certainly it takes much more than that to make a film worth watching. The Shop Around the Corner delivers an entire cast of believable characters for us to love or hate. I found myself rooting for the other characters in the movie as much as for the JS and MS characters...Especially the demanding shop owner,Mr Matacheck(sp)To me the actual romance between JS and MS was just the icing on the cake! See this movie, see this movie, see this movie. oh yeah, and you get to see Jimmy Stewarts naked calfs! woo hoo.

Summary: the ultimate romantic comedy
Review: I loved this movie! I liked it for the normal reasons -- the charming stars, the funny script, the romantic ending. But this movie differs from current romantic comedies in its simplicity. The remake "You've Got Mail" had its protagonists as affluent, powerful businesspeople engaged in a bitter corporate war. The Shop Around the Corner simply has two nice people who are neither rich nor perfect. I love the scenes where you can actually see that alfred and clara are arguing not in the traditional "romantic comedy" sense (meaning they're suppressing their desire to kiss each other by arguing) but simply because it's been a long day at the shop and working in such close corners has made tempers frayed. The supporting cast in Shop is also funny, warm and for once they seem like real people, not just stock characters put in simply for comic relief. I love when Pirovitch says "Who would do such a terrible thing?" when bratty Pepi announces that he's been made clerk.

Anyway, to make a long story short, rent this movie! See it with someone you like, love, or even hate-but-really-love-but-cant-express-it.

Summary: my favorite "old" movie
Review: This is my favorite old Christmas movie, I think because I first saw it on TV around Christmastime. The characters build a realistic tension and I love the wallet/cigarette box scene.

Summary: Timeless classic...
Review: I first saw this movie on a Christmas Eve, with a roaring fire and a glass of zinfandel wine in my hand. Just thinking about this movie brings back a smile to my face! This is a wonderful classic, with a timeless story. I highly recommend viewing this film (zinfandel optional).

Summary: A movie about falling in love with your worst enemy.
Review: Jimmy Stewart is fantastic and, as always sweeps his leading lady off her feet. Actually, he more so knocks her off her feet. Clashing wills so hard, the characters never truly realize that they both are in love with the other, and who would, given that you're supposed to hate this person? The story of true love and true hatred has never been more beautifully shown. Have you ever found yourself looking at your worst enemy in a new light? Suddenly the boy you could never stand, becomes the man you could never live without. It's like when your mother said, "He's just annoying you because he likes you." and then you end up being high school sweethearts. The biggest problem these two face is who will crack and say "I love you" first. No movie is more human. Exquisitly portrayed, you'll find yourself caught in the middle of two completely different people who are destined to be together. Turn down the lights, pop some popcorn, cuddle up with your honey (a warm blanket will suffice), and enjoy the ups and downs of these star-crossed lovers.

Summary: Saw it in high school 15 years ago and still love it!
Review: Not many movies have that magical mixture of innocent appeal, good acting, entertaining story and funny romance. I saw this movie in high school during the "Rambo" era. This Jimmy Stewert movie had me feeling a deep sense of romance and gratitude for something clean to watch. I wasn't afraid my parents would ask me to turn it off. It's a Wonderful Life is my all time favorite Christmas movie, but this is definitely in the top 10. If you've never seen it, watch it with a girl you care about! It's refreshing and fun. It's about time to take my wife on a date. I think I'll watch this again!

Summary: Great, Fantastic
Review: Well, we've all seen "It's A Wonderful Life." It's a Christmas staple for me. For anyone who likes "It's A Wonderful Life," this movie is for you. Margaret Sullivan turns in a grand performance. Jimmy Stewart is as intriguing as ever. The movie's cast is terrific all the way down to the errand boy. Pick this movie up. It is impossible to find at Blockbuster and even the local library.

Summary: PRIMA!
Review: I saw "You've got mail" first and it was supposed to be a moderen "Shop Around the Corner". The orginial is just as good as the new one. There is a musical, also, from the same theme (whole falling in love via mail). I love James Stwart, so that helped my opinion, but really a great movie. I watch it at least once a month and it never gets old.

Summary: FABULOUS FILM----- GLAMOROUS STARS!!!!!!!!
Review: I have been in love with this flick since I was 10, staying up on Christmas eve until way past midnight in order to catch it on the late show. What a thrill to find it on video. James Stewart is at his finest. The romance is wonderfully developed. The supporting cast is unbelievably entertaining. There is much to enjoy in this feast of a film. ENJOY!
