Summary: W.C. Fields is too funny...
Review: this movie may cause you to lose faith in the possibilities of comedy in the new millenium. W.C. Fields was the best curmudgeon ever and this is one of his greatest films. His wife and his children hate him. Only his friendly neighborhood bartender (played by 4th or 5th stooge, Shemp Howard) loves him. As usual, W.C. gets himself into loads of trouble and finds a way to get out of it with a bunch of money. The final chase scene is rivaled only by It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, What's up, Doc?, and Seven Chances in it's superfluity of gags and danger.

Watch this movie....or die!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I'd give it 10 stars if I could...
Review: This not only IS one of Fields's very best movies, it's a movie that bears repeated watching, like Citizen Kane or The Maltese Falcon. It is, however, quite off-beat, as all his best work was.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: a fine example of slapstick comedy
Review: This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edition of the film.

W.C. Fields stars as Egbert Sousè (Pronounced as "Soosay" but mispronounced as "souse" by many of the people in his town though he is also a souse) a husband who is constantly critized by his family for his drinking and smoking. He lated inadvertently catches a bank robber and is offered a job as a guard at the bank.

The acting is what one would expect from comedy films of the time, and has a cameo role by Shemp Howard best known for his work as one of the 3 stooges.

This is W.C. field's last major film role. The DVD has no special features.

Summary: Best movie ever
Review: W. C. Fields is super funny in this movie as he playes Egbert Souse, a drunkerd who gets rich after he is tricked into bying worthless stockes that turn out to be worth thousands of dollars, and after being used as a hostage in a bank robery he drives the gettaway car in the funiest police car chase ever!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Riotously funny
Review: W.C. Fields was not only the funniest man ever to appear in movies, he was a great actor, too. Some of his finest (and funniest) acting is contained in "The Bank Dick" as Fields plays straight man to a variety of miscreants, hostile natives, hateful family members, establishment types and others fully worthy of his misanthopy. Priceless scenes include his barroom soliloqueys (with Shemp Howard), his debut as a "director," and his visit to a "grateful" bank. Splendid!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Look and Listen
Review: You better listen to the dialogue and enjoy a one man show. Fields was no longer a youngster when this film was made. No matter, the double entendre is in full force and the fun just never stops.

How would anyone describe one of the funniest guys in films ever. You can do it ..dont try..and catch who wrote that screenplay.
