Summary: "Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to..."
Review: "Life is a banquet," says Mame, "and most poor suckers are starving to death." My favorite movie of all time is finally being released on DVD. Hurray! From start to finish, this lavish depiction of Patrick Dennis and his flambouyant Auntie Mame is a marvel. This movie is full of colorful antics and hilarious scenarios which could only be pulled off by the late and great Rosalind Russell. Young Patrick Dennis goes to live with his 'odd but loving' Aunt after his father dies and he is left with no other surviving relative. He is also in for the time of his life. Mixed into the fold are his Aunt's best friend Vera Charles and Lyndsey Wolsey, along with a protective maid Nora and houseboy Ito. This movie is funny, sad and uplifting but never boring or predictable. It shows us all that a family is not always a mother and father but built on love from all who are around us. A great movie! I will definetly buy this one for my DVD collection to cherish forever.

Summary: Life changing
Review: Auntie Mame on DVD how exciting. I saw this film for the first time when I was seven and it has grown to influnace my entire life. The original version (not the remake with Lucy Ball) is the ultimate in fifties ciniema. Bigger then life charecters, beautiful sets and customs and Rosalind Russell in one of her best preformances. The message of living life to it's fullest has inspired me the way "It's A Wonderful Life" has touched many. If I ever feel down I put in my old video copy and it cheers me up. Now I can have it on DVD. I hope that it will have a bunch of extra features.

Summary: Its finally here!
Review: It is finally on DVD! This is the best movie ever! This is Rosalind's best role! (with the exception of her role as Sylvia Howard in The Women) This movie is long but never drags! Gotta love the scene in the country with the daquris! Buy this movie for yourself, your best friend and your mother! Can't go wrong with this one!

Summary: Words cannot express the sheer wonder of this comedy!
Review: I would be repetitive in reviewing this excellent comedy based on the Broadway smash. All I can hope is that my recommendation can encourage another to purchase this truly funny and witty classic.

Summary: Widescreen is the only way to see this film!
Review: I first saw "Auntie Mame" when I was 10 years old and I've loved it ever since. I've seen it in excess of 500 times (literally). It was such a delight, after a decade of watching the terrible full screen version to see the movie as it was originally released. The widescreen version is superb. The movie was so lavishly produced, and between the lush sets and the fabulous Orry Kelley gowns, you get SO MUCH more with widescreen format. For me, it was like watching a whole new movie. Also, trailers at the beginning were interesting. Especially the one for "The Bad Seed". Can't wait for this film to make it to DVD. I hope at that time they include outtakes and additional unreleased footage.

Summary: one of the top ten or twelve comedies there are . . .
Review: ...there are about a dozen comedies you should own.

This is one of them.

Need I say more?

You'll watch it a bazillion times.

And if you like this, you'll love HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1939, Ros. Russell) --which you will also watch a bazillion times.

Summary: Terrific Comedy
Review: Rosalind Russell stars as outrageous socialite Mame, who is given a nephew to raise. Mame is loud, loony, and bigger than life. She brings up Patrick (who grows up to be darling Roger Smith) in an atmosphere of over-the-top enthusiasm, honesty, and love. I never get tired of seeing this movie. The character of Auntie Mame is unforgettable, and I can't imagine anyone else but Rosalind Russell playing her. 5 stars!

Summary: I've Been Mamed!!!
Review: When I first saw this movie as a kid, I was SO jealous of little nephew Patrick, who was so lucky to have a wacky aunt like Auntie Mame. This has always been one of my favorite films. From the first scene, where you crash Mame Dennis' party, full of every kind of freak, intellectual, and eccentric (watch for the subtle, but daring for that time, gay characters), it is Rosalind Russels Mame who dominates this entire film. Her manic enthusiasm for life is contagious, not that anyone can keep up! She is the whirlwind ringleader amongst all the whackos in this movie, though she is at all times the most interesting character. Her life is a daily pursuit of any and all new experiences, a life into which the ,til then, regimented and sheltered little Patrick is thrown, as, on the death of his father, Auntie Mame is his only surviving relative. This film is full of memorable characters and situations, but, without Rosalind Russell, it would have been, maybe, only an amusing film. With her incessant wit , style, and inimitable delivery, you will fall in love with this outrageous lady. Concerning the re-make, hmmmm...I love Lucille Ball (met her in 1960), and "I Love Lucy" is my all-time favorite sit-com, but not only is that version duuuullllll !!, but, no version could top Rosalind Russels, it is simply not to be duplicated. "Auntie Mame is hung, get her a switch!!" I cackle every time I hear her say that, & you will too. One of the all-time great female performances. You will want Auntie Mame as a permanent member of your family.

Summary: We all could use an Auntie Mame in our families
Review: Auntie Mame is just amazing, the entire movie is colorful visually and character wise, Rosalind russell was amazing, I truly think she should have won the Oscar for this role. I'm an old movie buff and I can truly say I enjoyed all 143 mins of this classic film. But I speak for everyone when I say release this film on DVD, in widescreen with some extra stuff, and then all will be cool.

Summary: Incredibly funny
Review: It's unbelievable that I hadn't heard of this movie before my friends showed it to me. Absolutely hilarious! Great sarcastic humor and wit, with a lesson about life included. Hollywood at its finest.
