Summary: A comedy of manners
Review: After watching this movie, I think of Mozart -- primarily _Cosi
Fan Tutte_ but also _The Marriage of Figaro_. There is precious
little action, but the characters' interactions are so funny and
loving that the movie holds your attention.

Maybe it is because manners per se are passe now, but this is a
beautiful, cultivated comedy, unlike any contemporary film. An
absolute gem.

Summary: A Delightful All-Star Comedy
Review: "The Philadelphia Story" is one of the finest examples of a 1940s comedy you could hope to find. Adroitly written and directed, and with a fine cast including Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, James Stewart, and the inimitable Ruth Hussey, it is sweetly funny and completely enjoyable. This film contains all the best aspects of an Old Hollywood comedy, and has thus stood the test of time. No lingering scent of mothballs on this fine piece of cinema!

Summary: My Favorite Movie Of All Time!
Review: I love this movie! I normally get bored with black and white movies because I grew up in a world of color, but this movie is full of color. Katherine Hepburn is wonderful as Tracy a bride to be, but to which man in her life? This is one of the funniest movies of all time. My favorite part is the very first scene with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn on the porch of the house. It is hilarious. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves movies.

Summary: One of the best of the old-time movies
Review: A fabulous laugh-out-loud comedy with humor that at times seems very modern. If you love old movies, you must see this one. If you're uncertain about old movies, this one will change your mind and set you on a quest to find others like it. The interplay between the actors is a delight to watch. One of the best old movies out there.

Summary: The Comeback Story
Review: Katharine Hepburn used this as her comeback vehicle first on the stage in 1939, then on the screen. Supported by Grant (their 4th and final pairing) and Stewart, "The Philadelphia Story" is a funny piece brought to life by its three vibrant stars. The screen version is more coherent, and satisfying than the play, and Hepburn plays well with Grant and Stewart. The chemistry between Grant and Hepburn has a familiar feeling to it, that at times seems to leave Stewart as odd man out. This only adds to the complexities of this love triangle between Tracey Lord, her ex C.K. Dexter Haven (Grant), and the young brash reporter (Stewart). Don't just watch this gem once. It's heavy on dialogue, and short on action. I have watched this many times, and I still discover new aspects of the piece. Twice would do for anyone not as fanatic as me. A great vehicle for Hepburn, and a fun movie for Hepburn fans!

Summary: Comedy magic
Review: Absolutely brilliant romantic comedy starring three of the best classic movie actors--Hepburn, Grant and Stewart. Hepburn is glorious in her reprisal of the role she played before 455 New York audiences--she flirts, she storms, she babbles in French and gets drunk, all in a wonderfully charming manner. Watching her performance in this film, it's hard to believe that Hepburn ever had a 'box-office poison' period. Still, in giving Tracy Lord life, Tracy Lord not only gave Hepburn back her career, but also allowed movie audiences for generations to come to enjoy the undeniable magic and charisma of Katharine Hepburn.

While this film is undeniably Hepburn's, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart also turn in brilliant performances. Grant chose the more low-key role, oddly enough, while insisting on top billing. This left the field open for Stewart to sneak in and try his darned best to steal the movie from Hepburn's capable hands, and he almost succeeded. The chemistry between Hepburn and Stewart is a delight to watch, and I do wonder what Grant could have done with this role if he'd chosen it. Could he have improved on it? Highly doubtful.

Peerless romantic comedy; wonderfully, tightly scripted. Eons above its musical remake, 'High Society'.

Summary: Pure Magic!
Review: This movie was superb and it wasn't just be cause Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn were starring in it.

Often times it is easy to look back at the 'old days' and fondly wish that we had lived in simpler times when life was easier and the pace was slower. If you watch this movie it will show you in startling images that life and love in the 1930's was no simpler or easier than it is today.

The underlying story to this movie is as timely today as it was at the time the movie was made, and even though the movie was more a light hearted romantic comedy, the message in it was clear. This movie showed me clearly that there is nothing new under the sun.

Granted the characters, for the most part, are from the very upper crust of wealthy society and their sophisticated lives are far removed from most of our every day lifestyles, but the movie is so powerful and beautifully made that you get the message loud and clear.

Money can't buy you happiness or love. Time doesn't heal all wounds and never, ever give up hope that you can get a second chance with your frist love.

Cary Grant, who plays C.K. Dexter Haven, is a marvel in this movie and he proves, as I have always maintained, that he was terribly underestimated as an actor. Sometimes being that gorgeous has its drawbacks.

Katharine Hepburn shines in her role as Tracy Samantha Lord, a woman born with money and every advantage and yet she doesn't have any better clue than the rest of us when it comes to making the right choices at the right time in her life.

The conversations are quick and witty, not the usually speedy dialog that you find in alot of old B&W movies. The quips and comments are hilarious as are the supporting characters, including Tracy / Katharine's little sister, Dinah.

This was one of the most powerful movies I ever saw because of what it showed me beyond the movie, and it helped me to remove the rose colored glasses I had always worn. Whether it's 1932 or 2002, matters of the heart are still complicated, our judgement isn't always what it should be and hope is something none of us should relinquish without a long fight.

People can change when they truly want to and the reward is high enough, and true love is certainly worth the effort, as we see in this fabulous movie! Enjoy!

Summary: Star Studded Film Nails the Mark
Review: With a cast that includes megastars Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katharine Hepburn a movie can do little wrong. But it isn't just using big names to draw, the film actually comes through with it's promise to be a delightful romantic/comedy. Stewart plays a snoopy reporter (ala Rear Window) who is looking for a story. Hepburn is one of Philadelphia's elite who is about to wed another of the upper-class. Stewarts only problem is that he can't get near the closed ranks of Hepburns wedding. This is where Grant comes in. Grant (playing that same ol sly, witty role he always plays but never gets tired) is Hepburns ex-husband who decides to help Stewart get into the clique. The chemistry between the three potential huge egos couldn't be better. This one is a perfect one to snuggle up and pop in for a romantic night.

Summary: WHY DON'T THEY WRITE MOVIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE!?
Review: Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, wonderful story.

Philadelphia Story is a CLASSIC!, just rent it you won't be disappointed.

Well written, produced and directed Hepburn knew what she was doing when she put her own monies into this.

Summary: Jimmy + Katherine + Cary = great
Review: I first ran across this film after a long, hard breakup. it made me laugh when all I felt like doing was crying my eyes out. Cary Grant is suave and dashing, Jimmy Stewart is his usual reluctant hero self and Katherine Hepburn is "a radiant queen". See it.
