Summary: Classic Sellers
Review: This film can be summed up in a very short phrase. "ABSOLUTEL Y HILLARIOUS!" Even though there is very little dialogue in the film and most of the action is played out very slowly Sellers is able to pull off some of the funniest gags I have ever witnessed on film. He is truly the classic version of Jim Carey. Anyone who loves unique goofy and slapstick humor will love this film.

Review: Though not very politically correct for this day and age, this film is not only beautifully thought out but has a great cast, with the amazing ability of Peter Sellers to lead them. If you have never seen this film, you must, it is incredibly funny. It's almost painful to watch as Hurundi Bakshi bumbles his way through a night of pandemoneum, at a famous producers house party. Not your modern day comedy, but well worth a look!

Review: I recommend this film, The Pink Panther, and Dr. Strangelove as the best Peter Sellers movies ever made. To say anything else would dilute that.Still, I will - If you "get it," it's brilliant and uncontrollably funny. If not, then you're into a different realm of film than this. Blake Edwards made a *lot* of bad films, but this was not one of them. I does require a slight bit of cultural research, I suppose nowadays ... This was his second best (Pink Panther the first), IMHO.

Summary: Superb Comic Performance
Review: By far, the most impressive aspect of "The Party" is Peter Sellers's stunning performance, a work of comic genius. For those of us who are tired of the over-the-top and under-the-brain stem humor of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler, Sellers's subtlety and constant attention to comic detail (I could just watch his facial expressions for about fifteen straight minutes laughing) is a welcome, hilarious respite. The downside: the film does come off a little racist, as some of the humor is drawn from the character's Indian ethnicity. But, as they say, it's all in good fun.

Summary: I laughed my a** off
Review: Peter Sellers at his comic best? Yes if u understand that most of the skits were ad-lib. I cant remember in my 55 years laughing as loudly or as much to a movie and I never laugh at movie humor! Well hardly because its expected and I have to be surprised. I have seen too many movies in my life to fall for a gag but this movie was a sleeper for me. I had read it was one E. Preslys favorite movies(I dont care much for him but I wondered what he watched holed up in his masion so when it came on cable I watched it.) Then I rented it so my girlfriend could see it(she loved it and laughed till she lost weight and tears came to her eyes). Then my 10 year old son watched it and laughed till he cryed. He kept rewinding it to the bathroom seen and where he slided off the roof into the pool that flowed out of the house. That movie stayed around the house three weeks till I returned it to Blockbuster. When was the last time u willingly kept a rental movie three weeks and didnt mind paying the late fee? Enough said. Now go rent it but please, the movie has more impact if ur not expecting the world. Its just a great little movie with some wonderful surprises if ur not expecting the world. I have bought a lot of movies I didnt care for as much as this one and I dont own it. Whats wrong with me?

Summary: misinterpreted, by far
Review: I'd like to point out a thing or two about this movie, that most of our "would-be" reviewers, like myself, have missed. First off a grand Excellent performance by the great Peter Sellers. Yes, "Birdie num-num's" and all that aside, he made his character very loveable, as a bumbling East Indian actor, who is mistaken for some acting wizz. Unfortunately for the producers of the in-movie movie, he is not that at all, he is not good with lines, and he does some physical humor and actions that have the movie management up in arms, "who is this guy?". Perhaps the most incredible aspect of this Edwards/Sellers movie is the fact that they were trying to make a political statement at the last half hour of the movie, with the party hostess' hippy daughter and her friends, the elephant, and all that. Yes, I said Peter Sellers was in a politically based movie. One thinks, "poking fun at authority"? Well, yes, what in the world motivated the whole Pink Panther genre of movies? Blake Edwards was a political activist and liked to reflect that at certain points in lots of his movies. All in all, with that in mind, now, watch the movie and understand, and finally you can laugh with the movie. Nothing less than 5 Capitol stars from me. Just a thought!

Review: This is my favourite comedy movie. The first time I saw it, I needed to go to the bathroom, 'cause I laughed as a crazy man! The gags, the jokes. The acting of Mr. Sellers. The beautiful girl who plays "Michelle Monet". Unforgettable quotes like: "Birdie num num" and scenes like the Elephant bath will make your evening happy. Try this when depressed and you'll be glad again. Be prepared: it's humour is too "British". So take care about that. And don't drink any water before you watch it!

Summary: I have to admit that it was funny
Review: I dont care for 1960's corny comedies and I am indifferent towards Peter Sellers. However, I stumbled upon this flick late one night and watched it to the end. Despite the stupid plot, Sellers' portrayal of an East Indian actor who is totally out of place at a Hollywood party is absolutely hilarious. The sight gags and his portrayal had me laughing so hard at points during the film, I thought I was going to throw up. Worth a look if you can find it on TV or the video store.

Summary: Going... Going... Gone.
Review: Seller's is on top of his game with this 60's gem. Very rarely do we get to see a film that centers around one character but places the greater emphasis on the other actors. Granted it is a typical Blake Edwards "quick laugh - slow story" picture, it does give us a delightfully satirical look at a Hollywood that has not and never will change. What saddens me about a film of this calibre is that it is destined to be lost by future generations who just don't understand the 60's party scene. Without kegs and bongs, it just won't make it.

Summary: so funny, I was drooling on the floor
Review: I've watched this movie three nights in a row so far. Peter Seller's slapstick and Blake Edward's situations are a riotous combo -- everyone knows that. It's the little wacky things though that make 'The Party' so irresistible. Like "birdy num-nums" -- it's like a pop song that gets stuck in your head and you just have to hear it played again and again. 'The Party' also pokes fun at Hollywood snobs and phonies, it's very mild satire. Then The whole thing comes to a grinding halt at the end of the second act and we are subjected to a painfully goofy song (which will also get stuck in your head, I'm sorry to report). But that is how they made them back them. They dreamed up a situation and then trained the cameras on the guy and the rest was an apology for not having enough "plot". The song was probably the one thing that got the thing past the producers --(Fat Cat, chomping cigar)"Go ahead, I like the song". Maybe it's an inside joke... The climax is as dumb as anything that the Monkees ever did. C'mon this 1968 we're talking here. It looks dumb to us now, but back then it must have been liberating to see everything come undone like that.
