Summary: The Beginning of a Film Comedy Legend
Review: This is the beginning of the infamous Panther series. Put together a cast of Sellers, Niven, Wagern, Capucine, Cardinale, all produced and directed by Edwards and you've got this marvelous, hilarious film.

Once is immediately struck by Clouseau's wife and a different Panther in this film. What remains of course if Sellers, and he is the center and highlight, with his immitable form of slap-stick.

The opening title sequence is long, and became standard for other attempts, with wacky Pink leading the credits way.

Revolutionary is this production, and the scenes of Clouseau's humor are outstanding to see again or for the first timer.

One of the great classics of film comedy.

Summary: A Showcase For The Talents Of Peter Sellers
Review: THE PINK PANTHER is a film mostly about the bungling antics of Inspector Clouseau who is played expertly by the master comedian Peter Sellers. The movie is greatly enhanced by the presence of the lovely Claudia Cardinale as an Indian Princess in possession of a rare jewel known as the Pink Panther. Capucine is equally beautiful as Clouseau's wife and David Niven is his usual sophisticated self in the role of a celebrated jewel thief. This film is definitely enjoyable but it is not quite as good as A SHOT IN THE DARK.

THE PINK PANTHER was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Music Score in 1964.

Summary: One of the funniest films ever gets better on dvd
Review: A screamingly funny slapstic, The Pink Panther is great, if a little outdated. Peter Sellers plays Inspecter Clousseau-an lovable detective that can solve the case-if he can still open the door! Peter Sellers also starred in A Shot in the Dark and Dr. Strangelove that year, both of which I would recommend. The film is a classic in which the comedy is funny on it's timing-and this film has perfect timing! Even Leonard Maltin liked this one. When this film didn't appear on the AFI's top 100, it was a real "shot in the dark."

Movie: 4.5/5 A little outdated, but as the spotlight review says, "Deliciously Funny."

DVD: 4/5 I know what your thinking, about no special features, mono, and non-anamorphic, but it comes with one of my favorite trailers, gives two viewing modes, sounds great during the film's score, is sharp at times, and has a great pamphlet about the film. I never saw this film on vhs, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!

Summary: The Story of Clouseau begins with this hilarious starter!
Review: I've seen this for the second time last night. It is unbelievable funny at what Peter Sellers' Jacques Clouseau does as he is so hysterically clumsy as he gathers up all the clues to try to put the mark on the notorious phantom whom David Niven is suspected. In the courtroom sequence, a hilarious event occurs and it is too good to spoil. You must see it for yourself.
I've seen every Pink Panther movie Peter Sellers was in, and this one may be ranked as a top hit, if not above "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" which is a must! Both of these are! If you want to see how Clouseau's Pink Panther search gets started, start here! Get ready to laugh out loud, too!

Summary: No special features
Review: I bought the box set from Costco which included four movies. The Pink Panther, Shot in the Dark, Revenge of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again. Loved them all of course but was saddly disappointed with the lack of special features, such as commentaries from people directly involved with the movies. This is a big reason I buy DVD's in the first place. What was available was scene selection and language.
Much aloha...

Summary: What is all the hype about?
Review: Seriously, I love comedies. But this movie is flat as far as comedy goes. (...) People love the movie, not the comedy. They talk about the music, the scenery, the leading men and sexy ladies, the timelessness, but what about the jokes, the gags. There were none worth talking about. If you want a movie that brings back the memories of hollywood villians and sexy ladies, okay buy it. If you want a real comedy that will bust up your viewers, try Young Frankenstein.

Summary: Elegant, romantic, and very funny
Review: I won't talk about the plot since others have done that but I'll just mention the ambience of the film and what it does for me. I love this film. It works for me on so many levels. While I love Peter Sellers and I can watch him in anything, I also enjoy the fabulous scenery, the clothes, and the party scenes, in fact there are four or five parties ranging from a masquerade ball to a dinner party to the wonderfully warm party in the Alpine lodge. In general this film envinces a feel good quality to it, that makes one want to go to the Italian Alps as soon as one finishes seeing it. There is a light elegant feel to this film. From the romantic scene between Sir Charles and the Princess in his hotel room, which is both sexy and funny, to the great scene in the Alpine lodge where Fran Jeffries sings a catchy song in front of an open fire, the whole film crackles to a warm light-heartedness. The cast is terrific. Claudia Cardinale and Capucine are both very good in their respective parts as well as being extremely pretty. David Niven looks a bit long in the tooth to play a lothario but he still plays the part very well and with great charm. I loved Brenda de Banzie as the social climbing Angela Dunning. One criticism I have to make though. Though Yves St Laurent is credited with designing the beautiful clothes that are worn by the Princess, at the masquerade ball you can only see the top half of an exquisite orange gown that she wears. I wish that I could have seen a full-length view of the dress that she wears. Also a white silk pant-suit that she wears in another scene is only shown for a few seconds before she disappears out of view. If the film-makers are going to pay a lot of money to have a top Paris designer design the clothes in the movie, at least let us SEE THEM full-length, ok? It's a very sixties film and brings back good memories for those of us who loved those days. They don't make them like this anymore but I wish they did.
