Summary: A smart and romatic movie!
Review: I first watched Notting Hill simply to please my fiance. However, as I started to wtach it with her I cam to the conclusion that I was actually having a good time. Julia Roberts is excellent in her role as the American love interest. Hugh Grant is is all very convincing as the dorky bookworm.

Review: I'm a romantic myself, so hey, what can I say? I don't believe Julia Roberts is the prettiest actress I have ever seen, but she's certainly one of the best and the chemistry between her and Hugh Grant is perfect. You get the feeling the parts were written with them in mind (which, from reading the notes on the DVD, I have found is actually the case with Hugh Grant). In a world full of madness and cruelty, every heart seeks peace, love, tenderness and stability. World-famous actress Anna Scott (portrayed by Julia Roberts) finds all this and more in William Thacker (Hugh Grant), the simple, kind-hearted owner of a travel-book shop on Notting Hill, London. But how is their relationship to progress in the frenzy that makes up the life of a multi-million dollar a film movie-star? Do they even stand a chance? You bet they do! Love overcomes all, and that's exactly what we want, yes, even need to see and believe in, isn't it? There are not just moments of tenderness between Will and Anna, but also between Will's friends, who stick by him through all the turbulent waters of this not so simple relationship. For instance, the scenes where Max carries his lovely but crippled wife Bella up the stairs to bed or insists that she takes part in the wild car race to the Ritz are full of warmth. If you like romantic comedies, see this movie! The DVD itself is excellently manufactured and full of goodies. Get it!

Summary: One of the best 3 Romantic comedy of all time
Review: Notting Hill, is one of the best romantic comedy made ever, Julia Robert is so cute, and his perfomance here is better that in any other movie, Except Erin Brockovich, Hught Grant made a great Work, he is simple nice. The Story is about the most famous actress in the world, and a simple guy, the have an ocasional encounter, and inmediatly they fall in love. But all goes crazy when he come the see she again. The movie is so funny and romantic. The DVD, is perfect, the image is very good, and the sound is terrific, this comes with a lot of Extras, like Deleted Scenes, some of them must have been inserted in the movie. Trailers. And other good stuff. I want you discover for Yourself. Well is the DVD is soo Good why I give they 4 stars. Because when this movie was in Preorder they Say that the movie will come With Spanish Subtitles, and whe it arrive to me, the movie dont come with any Spanish. A dissapointing for me. I Speak English. But I prefer to have the Subtitles in Spanish. Buy This Movie. PLEASE.

Summary: A Pain
Review: Ordinary guy meets famous movie star girl and they fall in love, like a fairy tale. The premise seemed like a feast for hopeless romantics ... seemed. I found Anna Scott, the 'famous movie star', to be arrogant and unapproachable to begin with, conceited, insensitive and indecisive to continue with and totally unattractive, in character I mean, throughout the story, which is compounded as William was sweet, understanding and devoted. At the end, the movie did not achieve in making me understand William's attraction to or obsession with Anna. She jumped on him with such bitterness when she opened the door to the world's pressmen in the morning after ! Throughout the story, she "begged" for him to come close, then pushes him away cruelly, then begs him come close again, then pushes him away again, that it pained me to watch. Most of all, I could not feel the love between them ... yes, William was surely smitten with Anna (the look of wonder on his face each time she was near was well portrayed by Hugh Grant) but Anna surely lacked the same kind of devotion for him (Julia Roberts was contrived and 'uninspiring') Granted that the script was above average and some scenes were witty/humourous, but romantic movies are supposed to give you that warm glow within, make you smile dreamily and reinforce your faith in love, and this story DID NOT do that for me. Instead I felt immense dislike for the leading lady and much empathy for the leading man. So, as a romantic story, it surely failed.

Review: What a thoroughly charming and engaging movie. A movie that is bound to be a classic. Julia Roberts does a fantastic job as the weary superstar finally finding love with an ordinary "Joe" travelbook shop owner played by Hugh Grant. The supporting actors and actresses in this movie are pure joy to see and develop the plot nicely. A movie that the whole family can enjoy. Hollywood has captured the magic and beauty again in this "old fashioned" romance. Highly recommended to all. Get it today!

Summary: a very enjoyable movie!
Review: There is so many videos around which cry out "Hillarios! Two thumbs up!" - you believe it, you watch it, and you end up severely disappointed. Lets face it - most new movies are dull and boring, and the plot is predictable from the very beginning. This one is different. It does not promise much on the box, but delievers an evening of enjoyment. A combination of Hollywood-style film making with a british cast of actors resulted in a love story with excellent (much wittier than you would usually get from a standard Hollywood-made "comedy") humor. Honestly speaking, this film was a pleasant surprise for me, and I don't remember when my family and I laughed that much. It is witty, it is very well done, it has excellent actors - everything you want from a movie to relax after a busy day.

Summary: Well-written, well-acted romantic comedy
Review: I love everything about this movie. Hugh Grant's bumbling William and Julia Robert's publicity-scarred Anna made the whole thing seem believable rather than a fairy tale. Presumably stars are real people with real lives who really do fall in love, as people do. If I were Anna, I'd be eating up William. He's just so cute. As a newspaper reporter, I was hooting through the scene where William is forced to masquerade as a reporter from Horse and Hound and interview Anna and her castmates when he knows nothing about the actors or the movie. But it's the supporting players that really make the movie. William's outrageous roommate Spike and his eccentric sister Honey will surprise you at the end of the film. Blink and you'll miss sadsack friend Bernie's crush on Honey. It's all in his expressions. William's old flame Bella, who is confined to a wheelchair, and her husband Max have real problems but also a deep, mature love. Every actor adds to this movie.

Summary: Take the story of Cinderella and pull it inside-out
Review: It's likely that before I saw "Notting Hill", I was expecting one of those formulaic feel-good pieces that the industry seems to churn out by the dozen every year. But at that stage I didn't know that the film was written by Richard Curtis, one of the principle writers behind the Blackadder series. So I walked into the cinema all unsuspecting.
I wasn't prepared for how likable Hugh Grant still manages to be, for how quirky and fascinating the support characters were and for how imperfect, and therefore lovable, Julia Roberts would seem. In fact the whole film was imbued with a subtle social suspense that is more typical of Rob Reiner films. It's so full of ups and downs that you wish you were one of the close friends in the story and so, could have your say and maybe set things to rights.
The premise of the movie is simple. Take a simple guy from Notting Hill, who has a close group of slightly warped friends. Introduce a mega star to their gatherings and his life. Then stand back and watch as their lives are changed; sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. There's also a side story going on. Can a star find true happiness amongst the painted smiles of her peers? But it's almost a throwaway as we concentrate on the regular folks.
The cast was inspired, as it turned out. Hugh Grant was typecast again, as William Thacker, the all-round nice guy loser. But he does it very well as usual. The famous Anna Scott was played with real feeling by Julia Roberts, who must have seen a lot of irony in the part, considering the parallels in her own life. Rhys Ifans as the "housemate from hell", Spike, was so over the top that it was almost believable. But for me, Gina McKee, playing William's ex-girlfriend, ran the biggest risk of stealing the show. She was warm and wise and yet at the same time, quietly bitter; just wonderful.
At the core of the film, the romance between William and Anna draws our attention. It's clear that Anna is forever doubtful of those around her because her fame and wealth are likely to be what draws them to her. And from William's perspective, he can hardly imagine a woman with such a large part to play in life, would have any interest or time to spare for such an unexceptional man as himself. Both of them balance on a precipice of total commitment. The hopeful words, "can it really be?" seem to hang in the air. It's this tension which carries us deeper into their lives.
In the end, there are very few films that are quite so satisfying as Notting Hill. It's not an important film, makes no revolutionary social comment, raises no one's consciousness but it is still a fabulous picture. If you running a little low on hope or just need to be reminded about what makes life worth living, take a trip down Portbello road with William Thacker. Like me, you may be surprised at where you end up.
