Summary: what were those brainless idiots at Warner Bros. thinking??
Review: First they give us a Kubrick boxed set that has mono sound for everything except 2001, and pan-and-scan formats for FMJ and the Shining, then we discover that they lied in the packaging about Dr. Strangelove and actually gave us pan-and-scan, not widescreen, then, the final insult: we discover A Clockwork Orange is not actually widescreen, but a fake "matted" version (with slivers of the top and bottom of the pan-and-scan version chopped off) which is supposed to LOOK like widscreen! Do they think consumers are idiots???!!!??? DEATH TO WB!!! (note: this entire comment is about the poor quality of the DVD. I think the actual movie is great and worth *****)

Summary: A Clockwork Orange is simply the best movie of the 70's.
Review: A Clockwork Orange is a film which shows the views and frustrations of the 70's. It is brutal and compelling, darkly funny and tragic. It shows that in trying to change the awful people you have created, you just wind up creatng a different kind of monster.

Summary: OK, but not superb
Review: I'm sorry to disagree with everybody else, but I DON'T think this movie is a five-star work of genius. Sure, the camera work is top-of-the-line, but some of the acting is downright awful, the script and narrative confusing, and the fashion is laughably dated, as are the cheesy Moog-synthesizer versions of classical pieces. Also, the film slips into tedium about a half-hour in (just after the not-so-"ultra" violence) I'd say the film is worth seeing for Kubrick's great direction, but don't be expecting another 2001.

Summary: Good Movie - Bad DVD
Review: This is a great movie. I can not believe that some of the movies in the new Stanley Kubrick collection are formatted and in mono! The Killing and Killer's Kiss are not included in the box set. What? Did the studio decide those movies were trash or something?? Kubrick supposedly approved this monster of a dissapointment. I find that hard to believe.

People! Save your money. Why not just buy some video tapes if you're getting TV-formatted movies with mono sound. It's truely a shame.

Summary: A Clockwork Orange is Kubricks best.
Review: The main thing that I like about Stanley Kubrick is that he likes to question humanities methods of doing things. In this classic sci-fi, he focuses on Alex, a young man with a fascination for sex, drugs and Beethoven. This lethal combination lands him in jail on charges of murder. Instead of spending his life in the can, he volunteers himself for an experimental cure. Unfortunately, this "cure" robs him of not only his free will, but also his ability to defend himself.

So now, Alex in tossed out, alone and penniless, into a cold-hearted and cruel society, different from the one that just let him get away with things. Homeless, he is beaten, teased, and completely unable to do anything about it. The ending leaves us with a sick feeling in our stomachs and the thinking that we should think before we punish.

Summary: A Clockwork Orange
Review: One of the things I liked about Kubrick is the fashion in which he questions the way that society works. In Clockwork, he focuses on Alex, a young man with an obsession for Beethoven who gets thrown in the slammer for murder. Instead of spending his life behind bars, he volunteers himself for an experimental cure. But, as a resulf of this cure, he is robbed of his free willand thrown into a cruel futuristic British society with no way of defending himself. The most brilliantly and most disturbing Kubrickian farce since DR. STRANGELOVE.

Summary: If you don't like this movie...You just don't get the point.
Review: One of the BEST satires to ever come out of the film industry. It's just as funny as it is disturbing. Okay, okay...It might bedifficult to watch at times, but no one said life was never easy. Viewers need to make it through the first hour (which is filled with rape, violence and just plain greusomeness), but after that, begin to see it all take shape. A most important movie in the history of films. I just love when motion pictures take 'pot-shots' at the government! DVD transfer is top notch as well.

Summary: On the 100 greatest movie list for some very good reasons.
Review: It is hard to review this incredible movie with less than 1,000 words, but I'll do my best. It is a scary view of a violence stricken futuristic society. It is definitely one of the most interesting movies I've ever seen. It really makes you think about where our society might be heading especially in light of some of the recent events in the media.
