Rating: Summary: Groundbreaking, shocking dark humor Review: A brand new twist to the old "bachelor party gone awry" plot, this film invokes strong emotions similar to other films such as "In the Company of Men" or "Crash" - you either love it or hate it, but rarely land up anywhere in between. Those who are fed up with the cliched dumbed-down Hollywood mush and the masses that happily sit through them with their minds in neutral will find this movie a guilty, giddy pleasure.
Rating: Summary: The Evil Cousin of "There's Something About Mary" Review: I've always liked black, twisted comedies (like "The War of the Roses"), but I couldn't pick my jaw up off the floor during this one. I figure any movie that can shock ME, is worthy of my devotion, and this one is great. Peter Berg looks so unassuming and normal on "Chicago Hope", it's amazing to think that this twisted, evil, nasty little yarn came from his head. It revels in it's political incorrectness and is wonderful for it. While "Mary" makes you laugh, "Bad Things" will make you gasp--and is just as much fun
Rating: Summary: Black comedy at it's best Review: Audiences in America have a hard time with black comedy--they just don't get it. This film out-Tarantinos, Tarantino.
Rating: Summary: Boy, are some people going to get a frikkin' surprise! Review: I can just see some family going into Blockbuster and seeing the box for this, which says it's "Funnier Than Something About Mary" and thinking oh, this is probably a fun comedy. If they think it'll be a black comedy like "Heathers", they are also gonna get a nasty surprise, since it's waaaay more dark and gruesome and mean. It's stupid that they are advertising it as "If you liked Something About Mary, you'll Love..." they are both tasteless comedies, but VBT makes SAM look like a Disney movie in comparison. Yeah, there's disgusting stuff in SAM but it's all vulgar sex-related humor, but in VBT the humor is in the vein (har!) of Mia Wallace getting the hypo of adreneline jabbed into her heart in Pulp Fiction. Hey, I like that kind of humor, so I liked this movie, though the misogynism got a little old. I rented it because a friend said he admired the filmmakers for making such an incredibely nasty, mean-spirited mainstream movie, and it was an OK movie worth a rental. It seems like most of the reviewers here either loved it or despised it ("YOU BETTER STOP SELLING IT") but I would give it, like, a B minus. Christian Slater's self-actualization psycho act got old after a while but the other actors were good, and I think Cameron Diaz is overrated in general but I really liked her performance in this, she was great as the spoiled stressed-out bride who crosses the line and goes totally psycho ("This is MY DAY!!!") It's also one of those 'what-would-you-do-if-it-happened-to-you' type movies. If I were one of the guys I would have cleaned up the coke, put away the booze, and called for an ambulance and the police right away- they were all so rich they probably could have found good sleazy lawyers who could have gotten them off with a slap on the wrist at most. I also like the fact that everyone pretty much gets what they deserve by the end of the movie, and it has a nice depressing ending. Worth renting, but NOT if you have a weak stomach or are overly P.C. or easily offended. The box makes it look like a light comedy with some black humor, when this is really one sick friggin movie that I am surprised got away with an "R" rating.
Rating: Summary: I thaught it was a wild extreamly funny must see Review: I thaught it was very funny in a mialdly sick way yet not to inapropreate for a veiwer in the mode for a laugh. -Alex-
Rating: Summary: the last scene is the best! Review: I loved this movie, especially the ending which had me in tears because I was laughing so hard. Cameron Diaz character is totally annoying until near the end when you see how far she'll go for the picture perfect American life.
Rating: Summary: This Movie Was Totally Outrageous!!! Review: If you watch this movie and say, "Ugh! That's sick!" then you're missing the whole point of the movie. I liked it because it was so unrealistic. I commend Peter Berg and the cast for going along with a crazy idea that grew more insane by the minute. I loved this movie. It was very dark and hilarious at the same time. But I didn't take a moment of it seriously. I wouldn't suggest you do that either because if you do, you won't like it because it is extremely violent, contains graphic (almost gratuitous) sex scenes, and the language is graphic too. If you watch this movie, watch it with someone who sees a movie for what it is... a little entertainment.
Rating: Summary: While going for shock, this came up offensive and desperate. Review: I'm very surprised at the number of high reviews on here, because i usually find them very accurate. While sitting through this movie, i forced myself to keep watching it because i thought it would get better. Unfortunatly, it didn't. This "comedy" showed no signs of sophisticated humor WHATSOEVER. It didn't even show signs of stupid humor. While trying to go for shock value, which i like, instead it offended me. Instead of being clever, they had to disect each moment until it became unbearable. It was a pox upon the screen it was shown on. Maybe the Arab guy liked it so much because it was offensive to jews. It wasn't just offensive to them however, it was also offensive to handicapped people. ha ha ha. good one guys. This movie made me SICK. Don't buy this.
Rating: Summary: Truly disturbing but brilliant! Review: If you have a weak stomach or are easily offended, this movie is most definitely not for you. But if you are looking for something different, shocking and utterly hilarious then this IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU. The film made me jump and laugh my head off so many times! The ending scene will stay in your mind long after you've watched the movie!
Rating: Summary: What is funny about murder, blood, and killing? Review: I watched this movie because it was billed as a comedy. Yet, as I watched, I kept asking myself what in the world is funny--the blood, killing? It was all to real, too intense. The Littleton school killers laughed as they butchered their fellow classmates. They would have enjoyed this kind of movie. Worst of all, it opens a window into how sick and evil our society has become. People are appluading killing instead of condemning this hateful work as evil.
