Summary: What to do with excess heathers?
Review: Winona says this is a comedy about a serious matter. However I was watching the surface action and it did not take the time to think about any underlying meanings. I had no idea that Moby Dick does not contain the word "Eskimo" as pointed out in the movie. I was surprised as the different events took shape and can see myself in that situation. I had fun watching this movie.
However, I grew up in a different environment than the one in this film. C Rations before 1955 contained only one box meal with fruit. That was the ham and lima beans box; during high school and 60's, we were lucky to have one "Heather" to a class. Now in the time of MRE's (meals ready to eat) that has fruit in just about everything, Heathers abound. This requires the JDs of the world to once again bringing a natural balance to the high-school society. You will want to view it again for the nuances.

Summary: Quotable quotes that never go out of style
Review: I first saw this film, ironically enough, with my best friend Heather while we were in high school and I still own a copy of it today. This film ranks right up there with all the 80's-early 90's teen angst films. Winona, Christian, Shannon, and the rest of the cast give wonderful performances (although what ever happened to the other two Heathers?). It is cheese at it's best with wonderful one-liners that will stick with you for years to come. It is a funny, witty, and completely over exaggerated film about high school cliques and being popular. It is a dark comedy about teenage suicide (don't do it) and will make you wonder what exactly is going through the minds of these kids. I think everyone who was a child of the 80's should own this film.

Summary: LIFE ON THE DARK SIDE
Review: Heathers is pentultium dark comedy. Winona and Christain found chemistry on and off the screen in this sauvy commentary on teen culture. The dialogue here is first rate--many quotes that will stick with you. And if you are a Christain Slater fan (as I am) this will be one of your favs. He is a young stud here--full of hubris and doing his best Jack Nickolson. The ending is a hoot--my favorite scene. Don't miss this underground classic.

Review: I love this movie. It was a favourite in my youth.

Summary: Very Funny
Review: A dark, bizarre, twisted, and occasionally gross comedy with a hilarious concept. The movie occasionally goes a bit over the top, but never fails to send itself up. The cast seems to be having a ball, and Winona Ryder is darkly funny (I don't usually like her, but here she's in complete control of her performance and the results are great). Christian Slater is great too, funny and creepy--even if doing a blatant imitation of Jack Nicholson. Unlike a lot of other viewers, I didn't find the ending a cop out, I thought it was perfect. Realistically, what else could possible happen?

Summary: Wonderful concept, cop out ending
Review: Veronica (Ryder) is a reluctant trainee in her high school's bitchiest clique. She hates the dirty work that her "friends" force on her but can see no way out. Veronica is unable to articulate her discontent until she meets J.D. (Slater). Enamored of the sharp tongued bad boy that is fantasy of every smart teenage girl, Veronica begins a train of events that will reduce all but the most delicately sensitive souls to tears of laughter. This is Winona Ryder at her best, girlishly quirky, precocious, and darkly funny. Unfortunately, she hasn't matured much since then. It's hard to play the child prodigy in your 30s. But all this had yet to occur, and this movie is a great 80s classic: bizarre, a bit on the gross side, and outrageously funny. However, the last two minutes are so thoroughly antithetical to the central themes of the movie that I have to wonder if it was tacked on a week before the premier by nervous producers. But it's only a few minutes. Ignore it, and you have a 5 star black comedy.

Summary: Kinda creepy, but worth watching
Review: The Amazon review is absolutely correct in saying that this movie was a benchmark in intelligent cinema. It essentially uses the horror movie genre to be a metaphor for the horrors of high school (in that way it has much in commom with Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Personally, I think this movie is worth watching for Christian Slayer alone. He's a dead-on ringer for Jack Nicholson (too bad Slater seems to have fizzled away), and he and Wynona Ryder sparkle on screen. Plus, you get Shannon Dougherty as an insecure nerd (before she finally embraces her inner b---h towards the end of the movie).

If you like the Buffy series, and 80's teen movies in general, this is a definate must watch.
