Rating: Summary: Shallow, boring, and wrong... Review: This is the movie about the meanest, cruelest, most socially unpleasant people ever. One could view it as dark comedy, but there is nothing funny about it. Characters move from one unbearable monologue to another, some even repeating scenes, while in the meantime nothing really happens in the story. I hope I never meet the person who actually identified with this movie. This is a film where respectable actors (Ben Stiller and Jason Patric among others) play entirely uninteresting characters and do it believably. The acting is very good in "Your Friends and Neighbors," but that doesn't change the fact that the film should never have been made. For what seems like ages, the film lags on with uninvolving dialogue that wants may seem intelligent, but only to the people saying it. The documentary "Trekkies" is about devoted fans to "Star Trek" who dress up at conventions and spend large amounts of money on the silliest things. Watching that movie, one might wish they would "get a life." While watching "Your Friends and Neighbors," I realized those Trekkies have much better lives than the characters in this movie. Maybe "Your Friends and Neighbors" is trying to make a point. Maybe it's really a commentary about people using sex to get power. The problem is, there's no glimmer of hope in this movie. There are no uplifting moments, no tender scenes, and no interesting characters. There is nothing to enjoy about this film. It's unpleasantly explicit and very, very boring. I suppose there was a point to this film. My point is that it shouldn't have been made.
Rating: Summary: With Friends like these...... Review: This modern, partly dark, slightly comic, exploration of sexual goings-on in America is somewhat of a strange excercise. The film takes the opportunity more than once to rabbit-punch the audience. A very good cast turns in fine performances. Notably, Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Keener and Jason Patric who presents one of the oddest characters in memory. His confrontation with Keener in a bookstore is worth a star all its own.

Rating: Summary: a great film Review: This movie is a different breed than "In The Company Of Men". It has strong female characters and the second creepiest character of 1998 in Jason Patric.(the first being Chazz in "Hurlyburly"). Think for yourself and don't let feminist ranting sway you. This is an insight into HOW PEOPLE ARE. Your friends and neighbors, indeed.
Rating: Summary: Don't ever rent this film! Review: This was one of the worst films I have ever seen in my life. There wasn't any character which a person could relate to and by the end of the first half hour of this horrible experience I hated all of the characters and wanted them all to flick off the screen. There was no story line and the name of this film makes no sense, none of the characters are really friends because the main concern is to see who's spouse each could get into bed. Worst of all, I don't see how any of the couples even met or got together. There is nothing in common between any of the characters and in every dull conversation which takes place there is an argument. The film was made even slower by these long pauses in which the character would be staring at the floor or at another person for no apparent reason which for some reason was there to accentuate the conversation or to make it seem extremly poingnant. But there wasn't anything to accentuate because there was no story. This film sucked and I would not wish sitting through this film to my worst enemy. I just want to know what was going through the directers, actors, and producer's heads when they decided to make this horrible excuse for a film.
Rating: Summary: TRUST ME Review: Trust me, this movie is good. This is the first time i have taken time out to review a movie. I read reviews all the time and have never left one myself, but I must say now--this movie must be seen! I am not just some idiot who picks up a video from Blockbuster every weekend...I love movies! So take it from me, the dialogue is smart, the acting is wonderful, AHHH! This movie is too good for words. I wish I had a chance to see it in theatres. Neil LaBute did a wonderful job directing the movie as well as writing...I wish I was Roger Ebert when it comes to this, but hey, IT IS VERY GOOD.
Rating: Summary: Painfully accurate film Review: While I agree that the characters are unattractive, self-absorbed and adolescent beyond the appropriate years, I have to add that , unforunately, so are *many* single thiry somethings. This film may bore some folks, and so be it. I suspect that the bleak take on life is the primary reason it has garnished so many negative reviews. Bleakness may not be fun, but it is out there. The film is honest in depicting the bleakness, and it is incisive in its ugly portrayal of all too common self-absorption.
Rating: Summary: Very impressive... Truthful characters... A must see... Review: Woah, Great movie! The kind of movie to make an big impact. The characters are "bad" but it's scary because somehow we can all relate to them. This movie is a must see...
Rating: Summary: Beautifully cynical Review: Yes, it's talky. Sure, it's dark. And certainly, there is no "good guy" or "good girl" to be found here. Beyond all this, "Neighbors" remains an incredible examination of the selfishness that dooms soom relationships and minimizes many more. In watching this morally destitute cast, you're either staunchly offended or rolling in laughter. My girlfriend and I saw this one at the theater, and we chuckled at the sea of groans spreading from all the married couples around us. This script is dead-on, and funnier than "In the Company of Men." And who knew Jason Patric had THIS in him?
Rating: Summary: A search for happiness in the wrong places... Review: Your Friends & Neighbors is tale about six people and their immoral connection to one another, which is based on sex. The film itself offers some interesting dialogues as it dissects the characters and their lustful needs for each other. As these needs are examined it is evident that what has surfaced is not always what is sought after, and in the absence of what is desired it is understandable that happiness is not obtained. Your Friends & Neighbors is a small film with a small cast that analyzes the question of what people think they want and what people really want. In the end, it is a pretty good cinematic experience.
