Rating: Summary: Horrible! Review: This movie was so awful and so unbeliveable.....can they write something that affects people these days? This movie doesn't even come close to dealing with what's going on in the world today....next time I see a movie with either one of these actresses, I better make sure the critics say something positive about it!.....I will never watch this movie again
Rating: Summary: HIGH TECH LESSON IN VANITY Review: Bruce Willis is the true surprise of this movie. He plays a very nerdy plastic surgeon who has relationships with both Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn's characters. Both women end up taking a potion that gives them eternal life and youth/beauty, but when they each take the potion, they do not consider the long-term or negative effects of it. They carry on a virtual war with one another and end up literally falling apart. The first time I saw this film I was a bit stunned by it and not at all entertained, but after I saw it again I realized it was a good concept with a highly talented cast and indeed a highly talented special effects crew. The effects alone are worth watching. Also, as I said, Willis is surprising in this role... and very entertaining as the tortured man between these two bitter enemies (Hawn and Streep). In the end these women end up having to befriend one another, begrudgingly, because they share this miserable eternal life. The film captures the contemporary American craze to defy your age and do anything you can to stave its onset. Vanity and a competitive need to look beautiful and young long after you are no longer young is explored to ridiculous extremes in this film and really makes you think about self-esteem and beauty in American society.
Rating: Summary: Very Becoming! Delicious Comedy Noire! Review: Meryl Streep, at the height of her career as a character actress, departed somewhat from her seriousness with this dark comedy. Goldie Hawn, accustomed to funny film making, is perfect as Meryl's sidekick. They play two middle aged society gals who discovered the fountain of youth in the form of a "miracle working" plastic surgeon. Not even death can stop these broads from getting pasted back together, looking like a million bucks every time. -- There are lots of great moments in this hilarious movie, even if the plot is "stretching" the limits of common sense. If you enjoy the work of the two leads, you will not be disappointed by "Death Becomes Her". Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A Delicious Dark Comedy of Special Effects Review: Zumeckis casted a brilliant bunch (Steep, Hawn and Willis), had a witty and humorous dialogue and amazing special effects. The film is a satirical attack on the obscession for eternal youth and beauty. The aging rivals Merryl and Hawn battle for the love of Willis and make a Faustian bargain with a witch (played by Isabella Rossalini) who concocts a potion that makes them appear younger. However, disaster strikes and through special effects wizardry and a lot of comedic action, the three are become involved in a great conflict. The joke is that although they are rotting away, they still concern themselves with looks. This is a deeply entertaining dark comedy and a must have on the video collection. Great performances by Willis, Streep and Hawn and Rossalini as the Enchantress who abodes a cryptic mansion where no one ever ages.... and this film cannot age or tire. It is still as fresh and funny as its initial release in 1991. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: I love this Weird, fantastic film.Meryl/Goldie are wonderfull Review: I couldn't wait to see this film when it came out.I Loved it.Its never boring, and I've always been interested in life after death.Meryl Streep is so funny, along with Goldie Hawn,my favorite star of all time.I read Barbra Streisand turned down the Meryl Streep part.Even though Meryl was sensational,It would have been something to see Barbra doing this movie.I still watch this film every time its on TV,and enjoy every moment it.
Rating: Summary: Your basic black comedy Review: This one is a corker- from the opening credits- over a god-awful 70's style finale for a musical version of "Sweet Bird of Youth" (you'll want to rewind a few times) to the last line- "Do you remember where you parked the car?", you will alternate between laughter and awe. Awe that a major director and studio would put out a movie this nasty. IT's mean spirited, cruel, over-the-top, evil, and just about the most fun you can have in front of a tv for 90 minutes. Get the video- the version shown on TV has, I think, about a half an hour chopped out that will never make it onto even cable, unless it's HBO. And despite it's message, I think I would still take the potion.... I'd just not turn my back on Bruce Willis.
Rating: Summary: Become a Viewer of This Movie Review: This movie has the distinction of pioneering some special effects. I am usually wary in such cases, as special effects have taken over American cinema as it is, at the expense of good story lines and acting. However, this movie delivers on all fronts. It's a very deft parody and a pretty decent comedy, which is by the way, not that black. The movie is definitely entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Death Becomes.....COOL!! Review: Death Becomes Her is a hilarious comedy about two girls:Madeline Ashton, and Helen Sharp. Helen is going to get married to Ernest, a docter. One night they attend one of Madeline's plays, she's an actress on Broadway, and Ernest falls for her, and after telling Helen that he has no interest for Madeline, he marries Madeline. 7 years later. Helen is a extremly large woman who does not care about anything else except killing Madeline. After misunderstanding a docter, she goes to illimanate Madeline. 7 years later. Ernest, instead of being a surgeon, is an undertaker and a drunk. Madeline is despretly trying to look younger, especially when her old friend, Helen Sharp, invites her to a party. When Ernest and Madeline see Helen, they gasp. She is extremly skinny, and looks 28, instead of 50. Ernest is very babbled! Helen, at work, had been given an address from a person who said it will make her look younger. She imediatly goes, and meets Lisa, who gives Madeline a potion, which makes her younger forever. Now, I'm being so detailed!! Anyway, to make a long story short, (too late) Madeline and Helen have a funny time fighting eachother, though they cannot die. Starring Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMEDIES! Review: This movie is a trip; very funny and entertaining with Oscar Award-Winning Special Effects, it is a must see! If you really like outrageous comedy go ahead and buy it! Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn play the perfect enemies who end up making up (or do they?); then discover they are stuck with each other for eternity! Amidst all of this zaniness comes a paradox-- it actually makes you think of your own eternal alternatives more seriously! The entire movie is great, but a definite overuse of lightning. Bruce Willis is in his element in comedies and does a great job. Isabella Rossellini gives a incredible performance as well; but Meryl and Goldie steal the show. If you are looking for something unique, off-the-wall, entertaining, and want a good laugh, then this is the movie for you. I highly recommend this movie to everyone; however, if you are a Streep or Hawn fan, this is a must buy! One more thing, the ending is one of the best I've ever seen in a comedy! 5 stars all around!
Rating: Summary: Black Comedy with a Twist! Review: The critics assailed this movie, but it's a huge cult hit. The special effects won an Oscar, and even though you don't hear much about it, the performances are very good. Especially notable are Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis, both playing strongly against type. (Although Streep played a role not too different in "She-Devil.") Willis is riotous (and hardly recognizable) as Ernest Menville, washed-up, drunken funeral-home cosmetologist. And Streep gave an unforgettable performance as faded star Medeline Ashton, an acid send-up of ego-driven celebrities with al sorts of great lines. Early morning, as Ernest walks past her bedroom door Madeline: (Sticking her head out) ROSE! (With disgust) Oh, it's you. Ernest: Thank you, darling, like a rock. If you get and enjoy humor like that, see this movie; you'll love it! It's a fun Saturday night movie--watch it with lots of friends!
