Review: Hi, I saw this movie three times and I cannot wait until it comes out on DVD over here in the U.K

Summary: The Whole Nine Yards
Review: The Whole Nine Yards is one of the funniest films I have recently seen, and I can't wait for the video release.

The film is about an unhappily married, underpaid dentist (Matthew Perry) whose next door neighbor is no other than Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis), an infamous contract killer out on parole. During the course of the film, everyone wants to kill someone, and no one can be trusted. There are some interesting twists, which makes the film unpredictable.

The acting is great. The comic treat in this film is Matthew Perry; he's very funny and charismatic. Bruce Willis's acting, however, is a little restrained, but his powerful stage presence is more than enough; his portrayal of Tudeski is excellent. Amanda Peet is a scene-stealer in the film; her comic timing is precise. I also enjoyed Michael Clarke Duncan and Kevin Pollack in their supporting roles. The only blemish in the film is Roseanna Arquette -- what's with the phony French accent?

Great film. A must-see!

Summary: A Deliciously Dark Comedy
Review: Ok Imagine this for a premise. A former Hit Man moves in as a next door neighbor. You know who he is but thinks that he doesn't know you know. In the meantime Your wife is trying to have you killed. And the kicker to all of this? You profession is as a dentist.

Such is the story which we are told of in _The Whole Nine Yards_

This is a good example of a Dark Comedy, it's not as Dark as _A Simple Plan_, or _Suicide Kings_ but it still is a dark comedy, and a funny one at that.

I can defintiely reccomend this movie.

Summary: Funny and Smart
Review: The Whole Nine Yards is the perfect thieves story: you know, the kind in which everyone tries to decieve each other with a good humored atmosphere?

Its a kind of movie that is hard to do right, but for the most parts, it is done here very, very well.

Mathew Perry stars as 'Oz' a dentist living a miserable life he meets Willis, a former mob hitman, and things start to get rough, as he's caught in a web of deception where everyone's trying to murder someone.

What makes the movie work is a combination of a truly funny script, with great plot twists. It is very hard to forsee what will happen next, and with one or two exceptions, I didn't.

Amanda Peet really steals the show as a beautiful hitman groupie, but the acting is generally good, and the few actors who work too hard on their fake accents are discarded pretty early on.

I was also happily suprised to find out that the director was non other than Jonathan Lynn, who directed the best TV show int he world, Yes, [Prime] Minister

You should see the Whole Nine Yards, it's a perfect way to pass about 2 hours. Not a deep movie, simply a fast and entertaining one. When so many comedies fail to make you laugh, and so many action movies fail to exite, Whole Nine Yards delivers.

Summary: Better than Mickey Blue Eyes, not as good as Analyze This.
Review: This is a great movie a couple of twists Matthew Perry is Oz a guy who wants to divorce his wife but she won't let that happen but then Bruce Willis moves in and is his new neighbor, Matthew Perry recognizes Willis because of a tatoo (already seen on the trailer) and Perry's wife tries to contract Willis... interested, see it.

Summary: Could've been better
Review: The humour in »The Whole Nine Yards« lies somewhere in between»Mickey Blue Eyes« and »There's Something About Mary«. The best Ican say about this well-meant(?) comedy is a) Matthew Perry's funny part (which, in the long run, even becomes too much), and b) gorgeous Amanda Peet's sexy part.

Summary: A big joke
Review: Hello everyone,

I have seen this movie today in a sneak preview in a germany theatre. I think it is a must have seen movie. One joke after the other and never expected action. "Oz" is great.

Summary: Don't miss this flick
Review: This movie was not meant to be anything but a romantic comedy - and there is nothing wrong with that. The movie succeeds in being witty, charming, and clever, with a great twist for the final portion of the movie. I give it my own two thumbs up!

Summary: More Peet, less Perry, please...
Review: A Chicago hit man turned informant (Bruce Willis) relocates to Montreal. His next door neighbor, an unhappily married dentist, played by Matthew Perry, is badgered by his obnoxious French wife (Roseanna Arquette) into going to "The Windy City" to collect a reward for reporting Bruce Willis' whereabouts to the betrayed mob boss. From here on in, this enterprise struggles with itself to find that delicate balance between violence and humor that great filmmakers like Hitchcock and Tanrantino have made careers mastering. The one fundamental problem with this joint is that it lacks any genuine humor to balance the senseless violence.

At the heart of this dilemma is the profusion of caricatures of the gangster movie genre. This circus of clowns includes a hen-picked dentist and his arrogant French wife, a friendly neighborhood contract killer, a slurring Slavic mob boss, a cordial muscle man with a heart of gold, and a groupie/wannabe serial killer. In each scene it seems that they all vie for the biggest laugh with out any set up or anything close to reality to make the scene funny. There are too many Costellos in this slop and not a single Abbott to reinforce the comedy or make it believable. For me, it was impossible to find anyone to identify with much less care for. In the end, I found myself wishing that they'd all buy it and relive me of my agony.

How much of an influence my recent viewing of "My Cousin Vinny", another Jonathon Lynne flick, was on this film is difficult to tell. But, it is abundantly clear that this one does not flow with the effortless charm and humor of Vinny! In fact, Mathew Perry's singular flat note performance is anything but charming or humorous. Consider that in "My Cousin Vinny" not only were all the characters from the star witnesses to the grits serving cook lovable, and yes, even adorable but Marisa Tormei and Joe Pesci just broke your heart with there "Fish out of water," self absorbed, northern/Brooklyn ways! Not only did the film demystify the south but also it successfully brought to light our biases of repudiated southern ways. You loved Joe Pesci's character, Vinny, not because southern society was out to get him, which they were not. Nor, did you love Vinny because his tumultuous relationship with Tomei seemed to obstruct his work on the case at every turn, which, again, clearly it did not. You simply loved Vinny for his inability to get out of his own way! Oh yes, let's not forget Fred Gywnne's, who played the judge, stellar performance as cast anchor and venerable straight man.

Where as in this latest Lynne venture, it is excruciating to find anything endearing about Matthew Perry's constant stream of pratt falls and facial contortions, known in acting circles as mugging - an inadequate substitute for real acting. When he falls for Willis's drop dead gorgeous wife, Natasha Henstridge, it is mind boggling how she could even stand his presence. For the portrait that he, Perry, paints is of someone who no one could possibly bear to be in the same room with. Although on the surface the story presents a well balanced plethora of conflicts and objectives between main characters with their full compliment of henchmen and sidekicks, the screenplay is very much flat. It is just formulaically constructed and there is a somewhat variety of drama but no schwing! It doesn't cook because what little is present in the script is never fully realized on the screen. I mean it just doesn't fly.

Jonathon dropped the ball. He relied too heavily on Mathew Perry's television popularity and physical "comedy" which was limited to a series of Chevy Chase pranks and facial grindings. The falls, I've always felt, never worked for Chevy and certainly do not work here. And, the facial aerobics have traditionally been the realm of the talentless who can not muster anything from within themselves. Mathew Perry is no Curly Howard. So, why Jonathon had chosen to allow Perry to carry his film on those weak shoulders is most questionable. (Perhaps, it was an executive decision.) His slap stick antics seemed to distract too much from the dynamics of the characters and their conflicts to the extent that one comes to care little for any of these people or what happens to them.

The only saving grace of this entire turkey was Amanda Peet's performance. She brought to her character a delightful and refreshing naivete and enthusiasm usually only reserved for groupies and religious fanatics, which lent an air of both humor and authenticity to the piece. Especially since the object of her fervor is murder for hire! Like Tomei in Vinny, Peet robs every scene she plays in. Unlike Vinny, these handful of scenes are absolutely the only scenes of the entire hour and half that are of any worth or value. I suppose you can wait for it to come out on tape and then view it as you would a porn flick; that is, by skipping forward only to the good parts, the scenes with Amanda Peet.

But, if you insist on going to a theater near you to view this abomination, then I must advice against

Summary: Friends meet The godfather
Review: The whole nine yards is a very good film, a truly entainting movie. It has a cocktail of comedy, action and a nice twist. The movie never really lets you get to grips with a possible ending, just as you think you have it figured out a gentle twist takes you away again.

The movie includes a great cast, following the foot steps of Matthew Perry (tv's friends), along with Bruce Willis who plays a mob hit man. If I go into the story too much it'll spoil most of the twist for you, but this is a good movie, with Perry breaking it up very nicely with his trademark humour. This will be a great movie to add to your DVD collection.
