Summary: Elvis Vs. The Mummy!!!
Review: I would have to say that this is the best Elvis Vs. the Mummy movie that I've ever seen. Although silly in nature the movie has a deep theme of growing old and dying alone. It also explains what really happened to Elvis. No one has even heard of this movie but thankfully that will change. Not to mention Bruce Campbell is the Don Mega of Elvis impersonators. Please buy this film, even if you don't watch it.

Summary: "Don't make me use my stuff on ya, baby!" (4.5 stars)
Review: In the tradition of the "Evil Dead" movies, Bruce Campbell is back in true form in this horror/comedy/drama flick that's a roaring good time. You just don't know what to expect next once you start this bad boy. Filled with laughs, horror and surprisingly, heart, "Bubba Ho-Tep" is everything you'd want from a B-Movie and more.

Campbell stars as an elderly Elvis who lives in a Texas retirement home. People keep thinking he's just an impersonator off his rocker, but in reality he had traded places with an "Elvis" impersonator so he could get away from all of the fame and hardships of a rock-n-roll star. However, something strange has been happening in this retirement home. Folks are dying mysteriously every night without any clear explanation. As it turns out, an Egyptian mummy is the cause for the deaths and it needs to feed on their souls to stay alive. It's up to Elvis and his buddy, JFK, to take on this monstrous foe before it slaughters every living person in the retirement home. The end results are unpredictable and off-the-wall.

The premise alone intrigued me to see it. That, and Bruce Campbell. I'm always in the mood to see a good funny horror movie, and this movie did a great job of fulfilling that need. Not one minute went by where I was bored or disappointed. While the story may be over-the-top, it's done in such a creative and clever way. The movie has fun with itself and it's very easy to see. Bruce Campbell does a marvelous job as "Elvis," and let's not forget the great Ossie Davis as the one and only "JFK." The movie combines elements of comedy, drama and horror. It doesn't know what it wants to be at times, but the cast knew that from the get-go and they even goof on that fact (watch the featurettes and listen to the commentary).

The DVD has some outstanding features. The movie sounds and looks really good for a flick that was done under such a low budget. The commentary tracks are definitely worth you time, and you MUST listen to the commentary track where Bruce Campbell does it as "The King" and stays in character the entire time. It is the funniest thing I have ever heard. Other extras include featurettes, a music video, deleted scenes, the original trailer and more. All of this makes one heck of a great package.

"Bubba Ho-Tep" is a great time from Campbell and company. Any fans of the "Evil Dead" movies will definitely want to put this on their list. Just keep in mind that this is a movie that you watch to be entertained and nothing more. This movie was pure enjoyment from beginning to end. It's bound to become a classic sooner or later. The King still lives, Baby! -Michael Crane

Summary: A Comical and Well Written Horror Story
Review: In dusty east Texas in a forgotten nursing home where elderly come to die rests Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell), the king of rock-n-roll. His true identity is unknown to the public as he had made a pact with an Elvis-impersonator that went wrong. Elvis's friend Jack (Ossie Davis) is the only one who believes that he is the king, but Jack also believes that he is the John F. Kennedy. Elvis is currently bed-ridden in the nursing home as a result of a stage accident where he broke his hip three years ago. Between sleeping, eating, and using the bed pan Elvis has bizarre dreams and visions that often launch philosophical thoughts of getting old and its consequences. This monotony crawls under the skin of Elvis as he decides to get out of the bed and use the restroom for once. However, it seems as if Elvis's adventure to the lavatory leads to a darker secret that seems to drain the life out of the residents of the nursing home. Bubba Ho-Tep is a comical and well-written horror story that the director Coscarelli adapts to the silver screen with a delicate touch of humor and suspense. The comedy is improved with Bruce Campbell's performance as Elvis, which will give the audience reason to burst out in loud laughter several times. Bruce Campbell also brings out a raw, but sensitive side of the old Elvis that suffers from health problems and other dysfunctions that comes with age. Bubba Ho-Tep offers a recommended cinematic experience that both offers high quality entertainment and some reflection for the thought.

Summary: Hail to the King (of Rock), baby!
Review: So by now I'm sure all of you have heard the hype about this movie. It stars cult movie legened Bruce 'Don't Call Me Ash' Campbell as a senior citizen Elvis fighting a zombie cowboy mummy. But with all the media attention, does the movie live up to it's hype?

In a word: YES!!

Bruce Campbell is terrific as Elvis, nailing the King's voice patterns down a T and never over doing it. Even the makeup job is fantastic!

Ossie Davis is hillarious as well as the black JFK. Both Davis and Campbell really make this movie what it is and that's darn entertaining. Both plays the parts remarkably well and it's easy to see they both really enjoyed making this movie.

It does unfold a bit slow, so those of you expecting 'Army of Darkness' speed plotting will be disappointed. But for those true and genuine movie fans who love a good story and enjoy seeing two terrific actors put on an amazing show, then this is the DVD for you.

Hail to the King, baby!

Summary: Elvis and JFK, together on stage, tonight!
Review: If you like quirky, cultish, noncatagorizable, odd, funny, low budget movies - this is perfect. If you like Bruce Campbell in ANYTHING, forget it, this is oscar worthy - if you love this genre of film and can really suspend disbelief. This is one of the coolist films I have seen in the long time, though I was expecting more of a comedy from seeing the Trailer. You cannot put your finger on it, whether this film is trying to be funny or serious. The acting is superb, Ossie Davis is great, Bruce is, well, he is Elvis. The supporting cast is perfect. This is the least pretentious film I have seen in years. Just watch it and listen to the wonderful souund track. You'll be shaking you head and smiling. All is Well.

Summary: We're gonna kill our selves a Mummy...
Review: First of all, this was a good movie, I thought. It was fun and enjoyable to watch. It does have a few unnessasary parts that I think we could have lived without, but if you can get past that then, hey.
This is one of the strangest movie ideas I have every seen. An elvis impersonator (Bruce Campbell "The Evil Dead triolgy") who thinks he is the real evlis is now at a retirement home, called Mudcreek, with a broken hip that he got when falling of a stag twenty years earlier, and something else I won't say. JF Kennedy (Ossie Davis), or a man who thinks he is JF Kennedy or someone like that says that the government tried to keep his secret of still being alive by dying him black, and also took part of his brain and put a sandbag in it's place. Anyways, friends around them keep dying, and what they find out is that there is a sole sucking cowboy Mummy that shows up everynight at Mudcreek Retirement home sucking the soles out of people in order to live. Knowing that no one would believe their story, they decide to take the matters into their own wheelchair, and try and kill the mummy. But do they... rent or better yet buy the movie, to find out the truth...

Summary: Not great, but very good
Review: "Bubba Ho-Tep," the movie in which Bruce Campbell plays Elvis and Ossie Davis (!) plays JFK, wasn't as good as it could have been.

The premise is that Elvis swapped places with an Elvis impersonator 20 years ago. The Elvis impersonator loved pills more than Elvis and croaked on the toilet. Elvis accidentally burned down his trailer home and went back on the road as an Elvis impersonator.

During a rigorous set, he fell off the stage, broke his hip and cracked his noggin. He woke up in a rest home in Texas and has been there ever since.

His buddy Jack (Davis) thinks he's the assassinated JFK. They discover that a stolen mummy is feeding off the souls of the rest home residents. Comedy ensues.

JFK thinks the mummy is LBJ:
Elvis: LBJ is dead.
JFK: Well, that ain't gonna stop him.

Later in the movie:
Elvis: Jack, wait. Marilyn, how was she?
JFK: That... is classified. Top secret! But between you and me... Wow!

I'm a big fan of Bruce Campbell, and he's very good as Elvis. He has the whole shtick down pat.

Summary: Best mummy movie ever
Review: What can I say I love this movie. Bruce Campbell has had an up and down career, but trust me when I say this movie is equal or even better then any of the Evil Dead movies. If you are a fan of wacked out movies that you can show all your friends then buy this movie. I could go into great detail about the plot but it's best for someone to go into this movie with an open mind and just let the greatness of Elvis take you over.

Summary: It sounds absurd, and it is. But pretty soon it isn't.
Review: It could be the most demented grab-bag of a plot that's ever gone into a film. The oddity, however, is that they somehow managed to bring substance to it. Nice work.

Summary: Worth Your Time
Review: Those expecting the manic rush of Campbell's Evil Dead films will be disappointed, but that should not stop anyone from giving it a chance. "Bubba" moves slowly, allowing Campbell to actually show off some acting chops and giving the story here a chance to bloom. There are plenty of funny moments and hilarious one-liners to please fans. Considering the budget, this film is extremely well done and an obvious labor of love from everyone involved. Its success, as Campbell points out in the DVD's booklet, can be attributed mostly to word-of-mouth from his fans. This alone is proof of its worth. Had it been a poor film, the fans would have denounced it, but instead, it was embraced.

Be prepared for a different side of Campbell, but be willing to experience a fine film.
