Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Special Edition)

Summary: Stanley Kubrick was a genius!!!
Review: This one is still a classic despite the fact that it was filmed over a third-of-a-century ago! And while everybody remembers the brilliant multiple roles played by the great Peter Sellers, I also thought it was one of George C. Scott's finest efforts. His General Turgisson was an hilarious portrayal of the classic cold warrior! An enjoyable, excellent film by one of America's greatest directors!

Summary: Good Movie, misleading packaging
Review: With no special features at all,why would someone buy this dvd? Sure it's a classic, but the VHS version would certainly suffice. Why I bought the DVD of this movie was the words " Presented in Multi Aspect Ratio". The packaging goes on to state that this movie was filmed in Multi Aspect Ratio & the proportions would change periodically throughout the film. I have watched this DVD a few times and I have yet to see the Multi Aspect Ratio on my television (A 35" Sony XBR). Misleading packaging on this Columbia release is certainly a negative to an otherwise great movie. Someone should wake them up at Columbia. Some extra DVD features would also have been nice for the price of this product. An excellent movie presented in a so-so package.

Summary: An unforgettable Kubrik classic
Review: Kubrick's black & white masterpiece of the cold war at the boiling point is both hysterically funny and frighteningly real. The script is smart and the casting and performances are right on the mark. Sellers portrayl of Dr. Strangelove is priceless. What a great perfromance. And some of the lines like "Our Germans are better than their Germans" and "Gentelmen! There's no fighting in the War Room!" are true gems. The cinematography and use of space and framing is totally Kubrick. George C. Scott's over-the-top portrayl of the Air Force general is terrific.Of Kubrick's many great films, Dr. Strangelove goes on my short list.

Summary: Political Satire at its Best
Review: Dr. Strangelove is one of those amazing movies where after you've seen it, you can't stop thinking about it for the next few days. It's simply a marvelous film, easily the best political satire ever, and perhaps the greatest comedy ever. Stanley Kubrick, having always been a marvelous director, really broke the mold when he made this one, and the result was one of the most incredibly daring films of the 1960's. I could get into details about the story, but the truth is that you really have to see it for yourself to believe it.

Summary: The funniest film ever made (and I've seen a lot of movies)!
Review: "Dr. Strangelove" is the foundation for all black comedies. It is doubtful Kubrick would ever have made "2001" without it. Peter Sellers is great in all three roles but the funniest character, by far, is Slim Pickins when he and the missle fall to Earth. The genius of the film is that it makes us laugh at a serious situation. By making it funny with various sexual metaphores, we truly appreciate the film as a whole.

Summary: KUBRICK CHALLENGES AMERICAN IDEALS BY TAKING ON THE COLD WAR
Review: Stanley Kubrick...perhaps the greatest director of the latter half of the 20th Century finally decided to take his fans to the brink with Dr. Strangelove. My father (a film teacher) always told me to watch it, but being a teenager, I didn't think a black and white film could keep my attention, Kubrick or not. However, this film blew my mind. What a powerful statement Kubrick makes about the Cold War! Only Stanley could open our eyes to the how silly the arms race was, and the serious effects it would have on humanity were we to continue it. It was easy for Americans to sit back and watch the government handle the Cold War, but it wasn't easy for them to see the truth. All I have to say is, "You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" We miss you Stanley!

Summary: An ingenious and brilliant film.
Review: Along with "Paths of Glory" the two most important war movies ever made. The brilliant late director approaches and critiques war from a different viewpoint here. In "Paths of Glory" he exposes the hypocrisy and insincerity of human nature. In "Dr. Strangelove" he exposes the madness and ingenuity of it. In doing so he is writing history because it is the right movie at the right time, the sixties and full blown cold war. It is comforting that kubrick's predictions have not come true. But then the danger of global thermonuclear war is still around. Sellers is excellent and so are Hayden and Scott. Madness, genius, irony, sarcasm, philosophy, and kubrick's trademark artistic workmanship are mixed together throughout the narration. Arguably this film contains the most amazing climax of any movie. Only Spielberg and his fantasy worlds come close. Buy it, watch it , treasure it.

Review: Next to Citizen Kane, this has to be the best American classic. It displays and personifies all that was insane about the Cold War and MAD(mutual assured destruction). We will look back at ourselves 50 years from now and realize how close to reality Dr. Strangelove represented this period. I never get tried of watching it!

Review: Stanley Kubrick's genius is unparalleled by any other filmaker and this is perfectly exemplified by the immortal classic Dr. Strangelove. The film is virtually flawless and every way and not to love its whit, its uniqueness, and its potency is a crime. I give it my highest possible recomendation.

Summary: An All Time Classic, Must See!
Review: This film is fantastic. And with Stanley Kubricks recent death, possibly it will be rediscovered by a younger audience. This film is difficult to describe it is at once a taut drama and hysterical satire. It features a colorfull cast, notably a great multi-character performance by Peter Sellers. Who could forget Slim Pickens, "YeeeHaww" !! Also watch for the line "Sir, I have neither the time nor the Inclination...." that was later stolen in A Few Good Men. In conclusion a GREAT FILM, one of Kubrick's best and a definite MUST SEE.
