Rating: Summary: Great animation, but the rest... Review: As always, Pixar did an amazing job with their animation. However I was somewhat let down by the story and the humor. the hardest I laughed was at the featurette they showed before the movie, the birds on the wire. The movie itself didn't produce any belly laughs from me or the crowded theater I was in. This was just not the same level of clever humor that I've seen in similar movies. Also, the story was just a little too predictable. There is a twist at the end, but the "twist" is clear to anyone who is paying attention about 10 minutes into the film. Crystal was not particularly funny, Goodman didn' t try to be...the best part was the adorable little girl, Boo. Other than that, see it for the animation, not the humor.
Rating: Summary: Monster Mania Review: Going into the movie theater I thought to myself, "I guess I'll see Monsters Inc considering there really is nothing else playing and the previews look neat," never thinking that when I came out it would be one of my favorite movies. Sully and Mike just worked together with Boo. The voice of Billy Crystal was perfect for Mike...it just, matched. There were frowns and smiles, tears and laughs, but all in all, the movie was amazing. There were not only young children (3-8) but also preteens, teens, and even adults. Everyone enjoyed this movie and I'm sure I will buy it on video!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful movies for kids and adults! Review: I took my threes year old son to this movie and he loved it. He sat through the whole thing. I reccommed this movie as a great family outing and it will definetly be added to my movie collection!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious and Heart-warming Review: "Monsters, Inc." is definitely a must-see movie. The premise of it is really ingenious and different and the animation is, of course, amazingly lifelike. Also, Billy Crystal and John Goodman's vocal talents perfectly suit their characters and their dialogue is hilarious. The story is also very touching as it is about friendship and caring. I would definitely go see this movie again and if I had kids, this would be one film I would feel very comfortable taking them to see.
Rating: Summary: It's a winner! Review: I teach computer animation at a community college, so I tend to view any animation as soon as it is released. I also have an eight year old child, so there is that... In comparison to other films released this year, this one is a winner! The story line is very good, and John Goodman and Billy Crystal are a great comedic team (just as good as Abbott and Costello, if not better, and with similar type roles). The plot is excellent, with a perfect balance of humor with sentimentality/pathos. The computer graphics are fabulous, of course, and Pixar has the best fur in the business. My only negative criticism would be the lighting, which is a little off in some of the scenes, pushing the overall lighting at the expense of chiaroscuro and intensity. Very good textures, though!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Movie That Has Something for Everybody Review: This movie has everything: it's funny, it's clever (it's amazing how they use those doors), it's touching (you'll fall in love with Boo), it's happy, it's sad, and it's suspenseful. It has some surprising twists-the characters are not always what they seem. While the basic premise of the movie will probably escape younger children (energy for the monster society is generated by screams), and parts of the movie are scary, it's suitable for all ages. The numerous monster "extras" are very funny in their appearance and behavior. The ending is surprising and moving. If you are a parent, you will see some of your child in Boo (I certainly did, it brought back memories of when they were younger). The animation is great-if you somehow find yourself not totally absorbed in the movie, look at the details. The movie is preceded by a short Pixar film that is absolutely hilarious.
Rating: Summary: We need more movies like this... Review: I just saw this movie today (November 3rd 2001 8:55PM). Well? Monsters, Inc. is what you get when you put Toy Story, A Bug's Life and Shrek in a blender. This is a really entertaining movie not only for kids, but adults as well. (...) The sound is brilliant. And if not only the sound, the acting is as well. The animation is top notch, and, of course, the musical score. That settles it. I saw a preview of this movie when Toy Story 2 came to video last year. And, I must say, this was, indeed, worth the wait. The ONLY thing I didn't like of this movie is this: LACK OF BLOOPERS. There were no bloopers when I saw this. Maybe they will add some in the future. I hope so. Oh, and you may love the bird short at the beginning. lol This is Joseph Label, over and out...
Rating: Summary: Great animated fun by the makers of Toy Story Review: A couple of days ago I was reading in a local paper a comentary about this movie, saying that it was good, just as good as Shrek (this year's animated hit) but not as good as Toy Story, the previous movie that Pixar (the same makers of Monsters, Inc.) put together. I disagree with this comment. This movie is brilliant! The script is very funny, clever and innovative, turning around the ageless fear of monsters in kids into a fear of kids by monsters, who need kids' screams in order to power their society. Top ranking scarer, Sulley (voiced by John Goodman, a perfect voice for the big blue monster character, it has to be said) and one-eyed Mike Wazowski (played by Billy Crystal, much in the same style as Eddie Murphy turned around the donkey in Shrek to make it a very funny character) see their "monstrous" lives a little more than touched when Sulley makes a mistake and brings a little girl by accident into their monster world. Complementing the script and the voices, the animation is AWESOME!!! The faces of the characters, the blinking of the eyes (even the red in the eyes, when Mike sprays antibacterial stuff on his face..,) the fur of Sulley (every hair moving just as if he were real). Plus the persecution scene, where they're escaping from evil Randall (a lizard-like evil monster that can become invisible, much like "Hollow Man") left me speechless: there's SO MUCH happening in it, and it's seamless -they enter one door and leave the craze of the persecution to find themselves in Paris or in a quiet beach; they leave out another one to fall back in the persecution through the maze of moving hanging doors... In one word: excellent! Five stars to this incredible production by Disney. You will enjoy it, and it will certainly help them out of the little dissapointing financial hole in which they fell with Atlantis this summer.
Rating: Summary: Monster Big Movie - Monster Entertainment Review: THE movie to see! What a treat! A great, feel-good movie. The animation is awesome, the story is fresh and fast paced, the monsters are a feast for the eyes. I wanted to stand up and cheer for the monsters as did the audience, which included very young children to "kids" like me and my friends at 40 something! The entire theatre was squealing with delight and laughter throughout the movie. I'm not a regular movie goer, but this movie I would see again. I highly recommend it for age 3 and above.
