Review: Antz is a very fun movie, and well created considering the computerized production as in A Bugs Life or Toy Story.All of the above three films each have a much larger content than their obvious humour and nicely rendered animations. Antz certainly stands as tall as its computerized colleagues, with its well captured environment and characters. Although the movie follows the clicheed "the little hero guy", it brings out other sides, especially socialogical ones, and maybe hinting a bit on modern society? I think so. First time you watch it, laugh and enjoy, second time, look closer!

Summary: A charming little animated piece of work
Review: The unfortunate thing with Antz is that it got released around the same time as A Bug's Life, which had significantly better special effects. Still, overall, I believe Antz wins over A Bug's Life in the long run. The whole story stars Z, a ranting, individualistic ant played by Woody Allen (who also looks like E.T. in my opinion), and Princess Bala, the fun-loving (and spoiled) heir to the ant throne played by Sharon Stone. Other characters include the evil General Mandible, voiced perfectly by Gene Hackman, an over-expectant yellow jacket called Chip (Dan Ackroyd), and Weaver, a "lady's man" soldier ant played by Sylvester Stalone. The whole storyline seems to hint of The Prince and the Pauper, but later turns into just another "baddie manipulates the system to get what he wants" movie. Simplistic plot, really, but that doesn't stop the movie from being comical, which is probably what its directors intended more than anything. The humor is probably best suited to the teenager crowd, despite the movie's PG rating, although I'm sure kids would enjoy this movie as well. The movie is also filled with many small Flinstones-ish mini-jokes involving the usage of just about anything made out of grass, dirt, or sticks as an everyday human appliance. Most of the humor is drawn from the over-cockiness of Weaver, the over-concerned nature of Z, and essentially how over-acted all of the characters are. Not a great place to draw humor, but Antz pulls it off nicely. Conclusively, this movie is nothing next to A Bug's Life in terms of 3D animation, but don't let that stop you. Pick up a copy of this movie, it's literally fun for the whole family.

Summary: A good tale of heroism and bravery
Review: When I started watching "Antz," I wasn't expecting it to be the kind of movie that it turned out to be. I thought it would be like many of the most popular Disney movies and have a lot of singing in it along with a simple story of bravery, adventure, friendship, etc. However, after I finished watching it, I found out it was better than I was anticipating. It has a few comedic parts to it, but it is mostly a story of the ups and downs of being a hero. A worker ant trades places with a soldier and becomes the biggest hero the colony has ever seen and also stirs up a lot of turmoil when he kidnaps the princess. After you watch "Antz," you'll remember it from some of the parts such as when Zee unwillingly becomes a hero and when he takes the princess to a place that every ant wants to go to. If you like 3D cartoon movies, then you need to see "Antz."

Summary: funny, entertaining, sweet story
Review: When I first saw this movie in the theaters, I thought I was going to be seeing the insect version of "Annie Hall" since we hear Woody Allen's voice as the ant, "Z" (who is voiced by Allen) is laying on a psychiatrist's couch talking about relationships with his mother. The film was much more than just the opening scene. There is action, betrayal, jealousy, loyalty, adventure, bravery and more. This is not just a film for kids... the animation is awesome and very and the characters are endearing. There are so many clever insights into what it would be like to be that small... things that you've never really thought of. We see Z, a lowly worker in a culture where the welfare of the colony far outweighs the welfare of the individual, who is unsatisfied with his station in life. Through his perserverance and love for the colony, he ends up exceeding even his own expectations. This is an encouraging movie for kids who feel like they're the only ones in class that wear glasses or if they're the last one picked for sports teams. It shows that trying your best and being a good friend are more important than where you come from or what everyone expects of you. The DVD is chock full of goodies including theatrical trailers and a behind-the-scenes featurette. If you liked movies such as "Toy Story" and "A Bug's Life" due to the computer animation AND the storyline, you won't be disappointed by this great family flick.

Review: I'm one of the ones who places in the Bugs Life camp in the big war of the ants. Why? Well, for one thing, Antz features some of my least favorite actors. I'm sorry, but Sly Stalone and Sharon Stone just grate on me. Even Woody Allen was off in this one. By far one of his least funny films. The animation, though well done, is nowhere close to the quality of Pixar's. Those who like this film should at least give a viewing to ABL, as it's far superior in the voices/animation/story department.

Review: I thought this movie was VERY funny. The Jokes where great the animations where incredible but the plot lacked something... Don't get me wrong it's a very good movie but there was just something missing here. I do reccomend it to adults and kids and I hope they enjoy it just as much as I did!

Summary: Umm.. Okay-this is good....
Review: I liked this movie's action, particularly the war scene with the termites. I thought that was really cool. And the animation was superb! It wasn't perfect, though. The plot itself needed a lot of work. A ant romance? For cryin' out loud! I know it IS a fiction movie, but geez! Have it make some sense! Also, I have to comment on the swearing. I'm all for swearing in movies-but only where it's NEEDED. The producers just added the language to put a bit spice in the movie, but it was out of place for a movie like this one. There was just no point to it!

Summary: "Animal Farm" Disney style...and it's good!
Review: For those of you that didn't get it, "Antz" symbolizes the Russian revolution. Most would complain and recommend that you go read "Animal Farm." I feel "Antz" does just as good a job of displaying the corrupt forces using sinful tactics to gain power. Then, the society is saved by the masses led by an unconscious revisionist. That revisionist is Z. Our hero spends the entire movie looking for his utopia, and in the end, he finally finds it in his colony with his lover. The evil powers at play are the soldiers led by the sturdy, strict General Mandible. His way of gaining power is slaughtering the ants that resist him and marrying the queen's daughter. The story is simple. However, it allows us to look into it and make out comparisons to past revolutions. If you don't enjoy this, the movie is also quite entertaining. Filled with good one liners and humorous situations, "Antz" is also a crowd pleaser. The voice acting is great. "Antz" manages to cast perfectly with some famous names that will surely surprise you. However, it loses points because of its content. If I had a kid and took them to see this movie, I would have been very angry. There is way too much in this film that just crosses the line of what I would consider PG. This is not for children of protective parents. Overall, "Antz" is a guaranteed winner. I secretly hoped it would achieve some Oscar success.

Summary: A very well rendered kid-adult movie.
Review: Who knew a cartoon could have such deep views and ideas about Utopias, communism, dictatorship, and governmental oppression? This is one of the best I have watched. The movie itself is wonderful and has a very deep and involving plot even though you might not expect it. The characters are well written and it doesn't fall into the typical cliches like disney movies do. As for the disc, the video quality is the BEST I've seen, no pixels were present in the video. Heck, I tried to find something wrong with the video quality and I couldn't! The 5.1 audio is excellent also and the .1 channel knows when exactly when to come in. The vibrant sounds never fight with the dialogue, and the movie has a great sense of 5.1 surround creating a real environment. The features are also where this DVD shines. The colorfull animated windows are user friendly leading you to Behind the scenes featurettes, The basics of computer animation, CG facial and character designs, commentaries, a trailor, 4 TV spots, and more. Overall, this is how all DVD's should be and will set a standard. It's a good movie for kids AND adults and I mean that, I'm a 20 year old Male and I loved it. This is definately a movie adults could enjoy.
