Rating: Summary: The most shameful movie ever Review: So let me get this straight- When a black person makes fun of a white person on tv, its great comedy! When a white person makes fun of a black person, you'd better belive that hes going to be getting a visit from the NAACP. Does anyone else see the ridiculious double-standard here? Simply, this movie is pre-packaged racisim for the whole family. It was the title that first caught my eye, despite the fact that myself or none of the people around me had ever heard of any of the "actors." This immediately cast doubt on thier "Orginal Kings Of Comdey" status, which was later confirmed by thier utterly tastelss and racist routines. I not only wasted my money, but lost an enormous ammount of respect for the black community in general for supporting this. Why is it that when we're trying to move ahead in race relations, a film like this is working to drive us apart? Do yourself a favour and take a pass on this video, and spend your money on something by Bill Cosby. You will laugh untill you cry, and not feel so guilty afterwards
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest movies ever! Review: This was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen! I especially liked the routines of Cedric The Entertainer and Bernie Mac! Check this out today if you're looking for comedy that's funny!
Rating: Summary: A Complete Dissapointment Review: I've heard that this was a funny movie (or whatever u wanna call it), but I was dissappointed. I didn't see why the audience was laughing SO hard at Steve Harvey's jokes in the beginning, cuz i sure wasn't. I was 20 minutes into it and got tired, so I ran back to the rental place and exchanged it for "Queens of Comedy" ( I tend to think women are funnier than men). If you want real comedy, go watch BET on TV or buy Margaret Cho's CD, she's WAY funnier than ALL four of them.P.S...Just because a reviewer says a product is bad doesn't mean it's a "bad" review. I bet i'll be getting 1/100 good reviews for this one:-). L8r.
Rating: Summary: Rent before you buy! Don't fall for the famous names Review: Yes, Spike Lee is a great director. Yes, Steve and Cedric are without question two of today's most gifted comedians -- witness the Steve Harvey Show on TV. This film however catches them spinning 2nd rate material, mixed with very VERY foul language. Second stringers Hughley and Mac are far less talented, but even more gross. Sure, the film has some inspired funny moments, but you have to be in the mood for a lot of profanity. Just make sure you rent before you buy.
Rating: Summary: Freaking funny!! Review: This is a non-stop, laugh a second show. I was very impressed with Cedric the entertainer, d.l hughley, and steve harvey. I did like bernie mac, but I think he should have been first, instead of last. Nonetheless, you will be definitely entertained. Enjoy!!!
Rating: Summary: Queens of Comedy...Can't miss Review: Although I haven't seen The Kings of Comedy, I did have the chance to watch The Queens of Comedy on Cable. Monique's performance alone warrents the purchase. The other comedians were funny, but here spill on "How to bring the #$%@ out of your man" was just classic. Now I've been told the the "Kings" were off the hook also, so both together is just A MUST BUY !
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this one by any account Review: Being black and British I wasn't quite sure how good this might be. I thought that Martin was funny but probably too long.Tommy Davidson was funny but too short. Seeing this in the cinema house I found this film was long but not not long enough - if it had been any longer I'm sure I would have ended up wetting myself with the amount of side splitting humour on show here! I was especially looking forward to seeing Bernie Mac doing stand up as I'd only seen him in mostly comic roles - "Friday" and "Above the Rim" stand out in my memory. Of course, D.L Hughley was known to me from BET's Comic View and I initially thought if he's first on stage the others can't be better than him. How wrong could I be! Steve Harvey compered the show superbly setting the atmosphere (if you know your soul music you really are in for a thrill too) - each subsequent comedian displayed high quality comedic genius. Despite watching this with my homies (which always is a catalyst for having a good laugh) this show stood up on its own merits - I have never laughed so much with tears in my eyes. And it's a good thing that I had 3 or 4 seats to sprawl over. By the way, I'm known as the most serious one of my friends but even I came out of the show with my body wracked with pain! Can't wait for this DVD to be released in the UK. C'mon Amazon.co.uk get your act together please :->
Rating: Summary: Not for "everyone" Review: This is a very funny film and I spent 90% of the time laughing while watching the movie. Of course a lot of stand-up comedy comes from (you the audience) being able to relate to the material. Hence, there is a lot of things that Steve Harvey, D.L Hughley, Cedric and B-Mack say that "I" can relate too. So if you can't relate to what's being said then it's not funny (to you!!). There are a lot of Black/White comparison jokes (which is old but still funny, to "me"). Not on a racially offensive level but it's true what they say whether you like it or not. So it all goes back to who's watching the movie. If you just like funny things and are not offended by the subject matter then you'll love it! If you ARE offended then they must be talking about YOU and YOU won't enjoy the movie! Got it? Good. If you like comedy you can relate to cause it's nothing but "the truth" and can laugh about it the nget this movie!!
Rating: Summary: An Exellent Comedic Work, Well Worth Seeing Repeatedly Review: I saw this movie soon after it was released, and went alone to it, as all my friends decided to ditch me there to go see The Cell. After we all came out of the theater, I was the only one pleased with their movie-going experience. Of course, comparing it to The Cell is impossible (and pointlessly stupid due to differences in genre), and it's always much more interesting to critique a film on its own merits. Anyone expecting to see a typical Spike Lee joint in this film is probably disappointed from that aspect, as it plays out a little like a comedian's version of This Is Spinal Tap, except that these guys are actually talented. In fact, they're REALLY DARN GOOD. Each of the four comedians (Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Highley, and Steve Harvey, in no particular order) has his own "segment" of the film, where he is able to be featured in their own style cutting loose and waxing comedic on nearly every facet of life. No matter how hard I tried, I was laughing out loud throughout the film (which made the other patrons of the theater laugh at me seeing the only white guy in the theater laughing harder than they were at jokes insulting white people, but the barbs were all TRUE! I can always spare a little bit of psychological stability <G> ). I have a personal favorite routine, but I am pretty sure Amazon won't let me talk about it without either censoring it or not publishing it, so I'll leave that at that. If you want to look at it as being a 2-hour-long HBO Def Comedy Jam, so be it. But it's a damn good one, and one that anyone who has an affinity for good stand-up comedy should see, provided they have no problems with language that'd make Carlin gasp (well, maybe not...). However, please check your pride at the door, thank you.
Rating: Summary: Maybe it's just me.... Review: But, I didn't find this movie funny at all. I sat and watched every minute and never once laughed out loud. This was a major disapointment. Steve Harvey's material was tired and old. Cedric "the Entertainer"'s set was flat. The only moments I found remotely funny were all contained in Bernie Mack's set. And there weren't nearly enough to make up for the other three "kings". Anyone who is thinking of wasting their time and/or money on this film would be better served renting Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" or any of Richard Pryor's old shows and watch a couple of true kings at work.
