Rating: Summary: A lighter side of Clint Review: A suprisingly funny movie from the usually serious actor Clint Eastwood. A good combination of comedy, action and romance. This one appeals to men, women and kids alike.
Rating: Summary: Earthy Eastwood Review: Clint Eastwood is wonderful in this light hearted and yet at the same time heart moving Road Movie/Romance. The country music score provides a great source of atmospheric pleasure, and the back up characters are colorful and well acted. A must for all Clint Eastwood fans.
Rating: Summary: Eastwoods first Comedy is a Classic Review: Clint Eastwood made this movie, after Burt Reynolds told him to do one. This is Classic Eastwood, He plays a bare knuckle brawler, who lives with the Clyde the monkey
Rating: Summary: This Burt Reynolds throwaway redeemed by Clint & his cast Review: Every Which Way But Loose is Clint's first foray into the genre of comedy that Burt Reynolds successfully minded for the better part of a decade from the mid-70s to the early '80s. However, rather than being a Reynolds throway scarely remembered now, the prescence of true movie icon/legend/megastar Clint Eastwood and his (typical) fine supporting cast lifts this god-awful nonsense into the realm of the inspired, like some of the best of the Three Stooges shorts. Who can ever forget the memorable performance of the inimitable Ruth Gordon as "Ma." Ruth deserved another Oscar for this one!The film also features Eastwood regulars Sondra Locke and Geoffrey Lewis doing their typical fine work, and the true star of the film, other than Mr. Eastwood, the orangutan "Clyde." Check it out! Four stars!
Rating: Summary: Great Film. Ape Death Story Is Bogus Review: Fantastic film which represents a by-gone era in films. The films of the 1970's were simply better because while Hollywood was still interested in making a buck, they still wanted to make good films. Now it's all about the buck, who cares if it's good as long as it turns a profit. Pick this one up and keep it in your library as a monolith of better times gone by. By the way, it is my understanding the original Clyde died of natural causes. The "donut beating" story has been circulated by the PETA Extremists for their hate filled fodder.
Rating: Summary: Last on my list Review: I can truthfully and sincerely say that this was the absolutely worst movie I ever saw.
Rating: Summary: Lookin' for Love - and Fistfights - Great Move!!! Review: I saw this film at the theater when it came out. Now, if you're looking for a complicated storyline, high-end intellectualism and plot twists, this movie isn't for you. But if you want to have some fun, and see Clint Eastwood in an unusual antithesis role, grab the popcorn. Few have mentioned the reunion of several of Clint's pals from "High Plains Drifter"; one of the best westerns ever produced IMHO. At least 7 of the cast members of that movie are back here, exchanging their bad boy roles for keystone cops characters. Get "High Plains Drifter", watch it first, and see if you can identify everybody. There's the aging biker gang that can't win a single fight. The mother who can't pass her driving test. The lonely orangutan with the sense of humor. The aspiring singer who uses everything and everyone to achieve her dream. The bumbling policemen. The real-life country singers. The champion fistfighters. Add in some fishing, some Oreo cookies(TM), a trip to the zoo, a car wash, a streetsweeper, some exploding motorcycles, a fresh fruit stand, A Fistful of Peanuts, a pickup truck with camper, some semi-trucks, a little bit of mud, a very brief homage to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", a psych major from USC, some fake dentures, a trash truck, a few cheap diners and mix well. Doesn't seem possible? Believe or not, it's all in there! You'd have to see it once to at least figure out how they pulled it off! IMHO better than the sequel "Any Which Way You Can". My favorite part is the surprise one biker gang-member receives when jumping into the camper at the end of the movie. He may never be the same again! (maybe the USC psych major could help him!) This is the perfect drive-in movie; without the two-week old hotdogs. It's classic "Samson and Delilah". Clint is "Samson". Sondra Locke is "Delilah". The bikers are the "Philistines". But Samson gets away this time. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Glad to see this one out on DVD !!! Review: I've been waiting a long time for this movie to be released on DVD.... It still hasn't been released on DVD in Britain, so I bought it from the USA. (I have multi-region player) Superb comedy classic. Excellent re-mastered sound & music, and pin sharp picture. Unforgettable performances from Clint, Ruth Gordon, and of course Clyde. You will laugh from start to finish. Buy it now !!!
Rating: Summary: Poor "Clyde" Review: Interesting that none of these reviews mentions the fact that Clyde (who was named Buddha by his trainers) was beaten so severely (for stealing doughnuts on the set) by his trainers that he died of brain hemorrhage. They replaced him, quietly, for the sequal. Primates are brutally dominated by their trainers in order to do the smallest actions (like smiling, which is a sign or fear in the wild). It isn't entertaining, it's cruel. Don't spend money on films that exploit animals. Grow up.
Rating: Summary: One of Clint Eastwood's most successful films!!!! Review: Like "Smokey & the Bandit" before it, this movie had the same kind of charm, & despite being set in Los Angeles, it had a down home southern feel to it, offered to Clint to give to his pal Burt Reynolds, Clint liked it so much he asked Burt why he should do it, Reynolds told him to do one, & like "Bandit" did for Reynolds, this one did for Eastwood, who stars as Filo Beddoe, a truck driver who falls for a local singer in a nearby bar only to discover that she has a questionable past, this is pretty much the plot that has a series of running gags where Filo pals around with an ape known as Clyde who basically steals the movie as does Ruth Gordon as Filo's mother who constantly curses Clyde, Filo's run-in with a local motorcycle gang is funny to watch as the leader has a look on his face as to how he ended up with such misfits, as Filo searches for love he encounters all kinds of misfits, in addition to the gang, he runs afoul two idiot cops, & bar room brawlers, a fun movie that was a change of pace for Eastwood, & featured his then-girlfriend Sondra Locke who has a secret all her own, if you liked "Smokey & the Bandit", you will love this one!!!
