Review: I saw this movie last night and I found it so...hilarious! It has such a dynamic cast of Ben Stiller, William H Macy, Janeane Garofalo, Geoffery Rush and Hank Azaria that I saw it for them and they didn't disappoint. However silly it was, it played on so many comic book cliches that we take for granted (love the Clark Kent/Superman payout with Captain Amazing) and it also makes you glad that Captain Amazing doesn't end up amazing at all - it's great to cheer on the little guys for a change. Watch out for one of the funniest scenes from a movie this year - the attack on Casanova Frankensteins car by Mr Furious and the Blue Raja's forks! I nearly [fell over,] I laughed that hard. If you wanted a lighthearted laugh at a filmmaker taking the [pomp] out of the comic-bookish, get Mystery Men.

Summary: Comes up a little short
Review: "Mystery Men" isn't an excellent movie by any means, but it could've been worse. It's about some heroes who want to become superheroes just like Captain Amazing. Captain Amazing gets kidnapped and it's up to The Shoveler and the rest of the crew to try and rescue him and save the world from Casanova Frankenstein's wrath.

Parts of "Mystery Men" are funny and parts of it are interesting, but overall it comes up a little bit short when you compare it to some of the great movies of the year. I would recommend seeing it if there's not anything else on tv, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.

Summary: Excellent. Just plain excellent.
Review: This movie brings together the cynically witty troupe of talented actors in a send off of fantasy-superhero movies most of us never understood or found entertaining. The dialogue is exceptional. The writing is tight and well paced.

The character development is equally funny. Imagine superheros who through cutlery, shovel, toss bowling balls, get angry, even break wind. Silly? Perhaps even childish? Oh yeah but this is soooo funny.

Ben Stiller is great; Janeane Garofalo (spellcheck?) is typically hysterical with deadpan charm. Its also a comfort to see the former Pee Wee Herman playing a part and not with himself.

Buy it. This is a great DVD to watch with friends.

Summary: Terribly Amusing
Review: This movie is about a group of superhero wannabe's. Some have real powers. Others do not. (Invisible Boy can only be invisible when someone isn't looking and Mr. Furious once lifted - or was it pushed- a bus.) In Champion City, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear) is the superhero. He is a pompous ass who has a publicist and various corporate sponsers. (How appropriate for today's American culture.) He is kidnapped by Casanova Frankenstein (creepily played by Geoffrey Rush). Soon the band of wannabe's realize that they are the only ones standing between Casanova and the city's annihilation. This film is an amusing look at the comic book world. What makes a hero super? Is it powers or strength of heart?

The City's most-endorsed superhero, Captain Amazing, is missing, victim to the evil machinations of Casanova Frankenstein. It's left to this Super Squad of misfits to save the day. With their trusty station-wagon and a cadre of non-lethal weapons, The Mystery Men will surely renew your faith in the everyday hero who lives down the street! A great send up of Superhero flicks from Batman to The X-Men. What ever you do, don't pull my finger!

Review: This has got to be the stupidest movie ever made. Please don't say "I didn't get the joke...." I got them, understood the punchline and didn't even crack a smile. I love comedies and the trailer for this film was so hilarious, I couldn't wait to see this film and paid full price the day it came out. It was all I could do to sit through this thing, faithfully expecting it to be a comedy as advertised. STUPID, STUPID, and more STUPID. I could see people at a party who were pretty snockered getting a kick out this movie now and then, but your senses must be sufficiently dulled by large amounts of alcohol or a severe head-trauma to find this amusing.

Save your time & your money and flee from this foul stench of a film.

Review: Very funny, witting, satire about a band of superheroes trying to save the ultimate superhero, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear). This band of superhero's includes Mr. Furious played by Ben Stiller, The Bowler played by Janeane Garofalo, The Shoveler played by William H Macy and many more. The whole concept of this movie is humorous, but the movie wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it's a great comedy adventure. But, just not the best movie ever. If you like Monty Python, you'll love this. This is the same kind of humor. Also stars Geoffrey Rush, Paul Reubens, Hank Azaria, Eddie Izzard, Artie Lange, and Claire Forlani. Just see this one for the fun of it, it's a fun film.

Review: "Mystery Men" is one of my favorite movies and a delightful comedic romp through all the cliches of super-hero tales. It tells the tale of seven superheroes: the Shoveler, who must fight and shovel his way to justice; Mr. Furious, whose power comes from his boundless rage; the Blue Raja, my personal favorite, who is the master of cutlary and speaks with an English accent, which really makes sense if you know your history; Invisible Boy, who can use his powers only when no one, including himself, is looking at him; the Bowler, my other favorite, who is the daughter of a bowling superhero and and now controlls a bowling ball that has her father's skull preserved inside of it ("Did you put your father's skull in that ball?" "No, of course not! The guy at the pro shop did it."); the Spleen, otherwise known as Peewee Herman, who will show you his power if you pull his finger; and the Sphinx, who is mysterious, _terribly_ mysterious, and can bend iron and stuff with his mind, and offers such pearls of wisdom like, "If you do not control your anger, your anger will control you," and "If you have doubt about your powers, your only power will be your doubt." When Champion City's professional superhero, Captain Amazing, is put out of commission ("Don't touch _any_ more toggels!"), the only thing standing between Casanova Frankenstein, along with gangs like the Disco Boys, the Frat Boys, and the Ladies Dressed To Kill, are seven wanna-be heroes. And it's their own conviction, determination, and blind luck that cause them to succeed. I personally found this movie to be hilarious. Seinfeld meets Superheroes, in that all of their discussions are about the silly things no one thinks about in the usual worlds of superheroes: "Lance Sterling is _not_ Captain Amazing. Lance Sterling wears glasses, Captain Amazing _doesn't_ wear glasses." "He takes them off when he transforms!" "Now, that doesn't make any sense. How would he be able to see?" It's so silly it's funny. I love the characters, especially Hank Azaria's Blue Raja. I adore Hank Azaria and he is wonderful in this film. The thought of a fork-flinging super hero is hilarious. His accent makes the character. And The Bowler is delightful. She may be the only girl on the team; but she never becomes a romantic interest (finally!). Maybe it's because I've always had a love for super heroes that I enjoy this movie so much. But the heroes with humor are always the enjoyable ones. The Disney character "Darkwing Duck" continues to be my favorite super hero out there *g*, and "Mystery Men" continues in that vein. Give it a chance. My college English professor recommended this movie to me! I've told all my friends to see this film. "Why don't you tell me?" "Why don't you tell me?" "Why don't you tell _me_?" "Why don't _you_ tell me?" "Why _don't_ . . ."

Summary: the jokes were funny, but the movie wasn't
Review: You don't have to be an intellectual high-brow or a car mechanic to watch this film and even if you're not a comic book fan like I am, you can tell, with an IQ over 40 that this movie was AWFUL. Do not confuse a hilarious storyline with a poorly executed film. If you like dry humor, great... but the preview implied drop-dead hilarity and the film delivered the deadest dead-pan, poorly timed jokes on record.

If you're really super drunk, the movie is probably pretty funny, but if you're laughing out loud during this film, I've got to wonder... what other movies have you seen in your life? If you're one who thinks "Dumb & Dumber," "Me, Myself & Irene" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" are the best comedies ever made, then this film should be a hoot.

If you've seen good parodies like "George Lucas in Love" or "Spaceballs," however and "got the joke," then this movie will require a labotomy to enjoy.

Review: And boy, is this movie stupid! How could they screw up a movie this bad? Fantastic comedians and what should be a hilarious story. Was the Screen Writers Guild on strike or something. Geesh! Waste of time and effort, and most assuredly a waste of my hard earned money to view this stinking pile of movie.
