Summary: Classic!
Review: This has been my favorite movie ever since I was teenager. The comedy of John Belushi and Dan Akroyd is priceless! If you have not seen this movie at least once in your lifetime, you need to get outa' the closet and see what is going on in life.

Summary: Nitro and Glycerin
Review: The first, and easily one of the best, adaptations of an SNL skit into full-length feature, "The Blues Brothers" delivers on what it promises -- comedy, mayhem, lovable characters (main and supporting), and a healthy dose of impossibly good blues music from impossibly good blues musicians. Clearly a pet project from the boys, their love of the blues permeates the film, as does their brotherly devotion to each other.

Belushi's manic energy (sorely lacking in the sequel) and Aykroyd's dead-pan delivery (he doesn't do as well when alone under the spotlight, as in "BB2000") combine to form "the most devastating team since nitro and glycerine."

Their car can careen through a crowded mall and fly with equal abandon, their clothes clean and repair themselves, they make all of Chicago dance while being chased by every law enforcement and military force in the free world. All in the name of putting on a one-night-only stint to raise money for soon-to-be homeless orphans (actually highlighted by Cab Calloway and a miraculously tuxedoed band). Mission from God, indeed.

Magic.

Summary: an american classic comedy
Review: This is a great movie. I was a little kid when I saw it the first time and I've seen it many a time after but it always puts me in a good mood. The story of redemption by two low class but good intentioned criminals has classic moments with great cameos by rythym and blues greats. The musical numbers are awesome and the dvd is full of extras which the real blues brothers fan can't do without. Also, it has been digitally remastered for home theatre and thank you, because it just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is the price is a little steep for a twenty one year old movie. All in all though, you get your money's worth

Summary: Added Footage Degrades Movie
Review: This edition includes the footage that was edited out after the initial premier of the movie. Unfortunately, the excess footage clutters the movie and breaks the flow. The excess footage was edited out for a reason and putting it back significantly degrades the movie.

If you have never seen this movie do yourself a favour and buy it on VHS instead of DVD.

Summary: Video and Audio Transfer are very well done
Review: The video looks good and the audio transfer to Dolby 5.1 is very well done.

The extra scenes are actually in the movie, rather then just as clips at the end (like Alien).

If you like the VHS version, I would recommend this DVD edition.

Summary: Get VHS, Stay away from DVD
Review: Only the snootiest of the snooty couldn't enjoy this film. Crashes, cameos, cops, criminals, a John Landis picture in short. It never lets up-between the great musical numbers there is great subtle comedy and great exaggeration at the same time (a tank? after Two guys! ). Jake and Elwood are the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid of the music world: it plays as a great buddy movie, and even though they never change their clothes, you envy their lifestyle a little bit. A lot of fun, classic comedy. The best thing to have come out of SNL is in here.

Summary: Still a favourite, so many years later
Review: "The Blues Brothers" still manages to surprise and delight after numerous viewings over nearly three decades. It seems self-evident that the magic of John Belushi goes a long way to explaining the success of this film. The on-stage chemistry with Dan Aykroyd just works, somehow lifting this B-movie plot up onto a higher level. And of course, the music helps - what blues lover could fail to enjoy the range and depth of the performances by some of the great bluesmen of the twentieth century. I suppose it's an extra delight to be able to enjoy the blues antics of the main characters as well.

If you haven't seen it, get it at once - it's not only a classic that will endure, it's also good (mostly) family entertainment and it's a tribute to a great actor who was, tragically, much nearer to the end of his career when he made this, that he ought to have been.

Summary: CLASSIC HILARIOUS COMEDY
Review: This is the story of the Blues Brothers. Jake (John Belushi) has just gotten out of jail, his brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) is taking him in. Together they try to get their band "The Blues Brothers" back together. But complications arise with a police officer (John Candy) a crazy ex-girlfriend (Carrie Fisher), a mad bar owner (Charles Napier) and a group of Nazi. A classic comedy with memorable lines. The sequel isn't as good, and is only for die-Hard Blues Brothers fans who don't care about the quality in film. I give the sequel two stars.

Summary: The blues is back!
Review: First, I'd like to say that I consider The Blues Brothers to be the greatest movie of all time. No other film has so masterfully blended side-spliting comedy, high speed action, and great music. Now, about this DVD. Everyone who is a fan of this movie needs to get this. There's about 15 or so minutes of extra footage in the movie. There's a whole new scene where you see Elwood quit his job. Very cool! There's a wonderful making of special with interviews of Dan Aykroyd, John Landis, most of the Blues Brother Band, and many others. I beg you! Don't pass up the chance to own this treasure!

Summary: We're on a mission from God!
Review: Belushi + Aykroyd= Hilarious! A strong plot and dangerously funny quirks will have you clapping at the TV! Great music, plotline and comedy will have you constantly rewinding and re-watching! What better than a collector's ediotion? Pee your pants funny!
