Summary: So Silly ... Popular British TV Comic's Screen Dedut
Review: Sacha Baron Cohen's popular "Ali G" is transferred to the big screen, and the result is not as bad as I expected. Ali G originally appeared as a comic character in Channel 4's program "The 11 O'Clock Show" in 1999, who interviews several celebrities with very (knowingly, but apparently innocently) awkward and embarrassing questions.

But the film shows him as an anti-hero on his own, who lives in British suburbia Staines. Ali G is leading his 'gangstas' (in a mock LA hip-hop fashion), and occasionally teaches the little kids how to swear in the local center. To his chagrin, the center is going to be closed down, but at the same time Ali G is 'found out' (in the silliest way) by Charles Dance's Duputy Prime Minister, and is chosen as candidate for the next by-election. He is of course supposed to lose, but somehow people come to like this awfully outspoken guy after one hilarious debate on TV, and Ali G finds himself in the Cabinet, handling the important national politics like immigration in his very unique way.

The premise is as silly as "Zoolander," but unlike Ben Stiller Ali G often does sexist gags which are probably meant to be ironic, but in fact fail to be so. And he gives now clithed jokes about gays ... yes, funny I admit, but not all viewers would feel the same way. Still, his very native way of delivering these crude jokes has, I thought, some childish but charming qualities especially when he is with his sidekicks, spitting out very silly lyrics of rap music -- like repeating "Ali G, It's me" again and again.

The film is no satire, just a series of stupid jokes about booze, grass, chicks, and so on. Frankly I do not know why Michael Gambon (as Prime Minister) should be here -- and Charles Dance for the matter -- but though the film is nothing particularly great, the fans of Sacha Baron Cohen would not be disappointed.

Summary: ali g in da house and in your face
Review: This movie is off the wall! Sacha Baron is out of control! In the tradition of movies like "Friday", "I'm gonna get you sucka!", and "Cheech and Chong's up in smoke", "Ali G in da house" pays its dues. If you can appreciate "Pootie Tang", then you will love "Ali G in da house". Forget movies like "Malibu's Most Wanted"... this is true satire. This NEEDS to be released in the US! Please, everyone vote for this movie to be released!
