Summary: Magical film
Review: "The Princess Diaries 2, Royal Engagement ," is a great film for all ages. It's really magical and a great story. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are first rate in it. The storyline is great and entertaining. Also I think the costumes and scenery are beautiful and create a great fairytale story. I love it. I think it's much better then the first one.

Summary: Dreadful sequel
Review: After loving the first Princess Diaries movie, I was eager to go see the sequel in the theater. But while the first movie has a wonderful rags-to-riches charm in it, the second is a horrible mish-mash of girly montages draped along a would-be promising plot.

You have to ask what were the screenwriters smoking when they wrote this? The premise is good -- Mia is set to become queen but Parlaiment is manipulated into forcing a sexist law requiring her to get married first.

But they go from a plot-driven story and quickly crash headfirst into girly montages - Mia's new room (like we really care she has remote controlled drawers), a "Princess" slumber party/bridal shower (even 16 year olds would find that dumb), and the loveless courtship of Lord Andrew.

45 minutes later they seem to remember there was such a thing as a plot and develop the unwanted love affair with usurper Nicholas.

If only this movie had dropped the childish montages and concentrated on building the conflict (courting a king while the usurper gets your heart), it would have lived up to its predecessor.

Save yourself the agony. Don't even rent this movie. When my 6 year old niece asked for it for Christmas, I wisely chose Ella Enchanted instead. At least that movie had a plot and heart.

Summary: Just different
Review: Although I am an avid follower of the books, I realize that movies when adapted from books are often quite different. So then the question is the movie still enjoyable? While I was saddened by some of the changes in the first movie, it was still very entertaining. I think that this second movie, though now almost entirely different from the books, looks like it too will be entertaining. And I have to say that the Prince Nicholas guy looks more like what I imagined Michael to look. I was not impressed with the Michael from the first movie. He was really not like the character in the book, so I feel no loss at his removal from the second movie. My advice, enjoy the movie for what it is rather than moment by moment comparison to the books.

Summary: Loved IT
Review: I absolutely loved these two movies. It is a fairy tale for every girl, big or small. That fact that there was a second one was even better. I loved both of them and took all the little girls in my family to see it. They all felt the same, as did the older women. It makes the Cinderella story seem that much more attainable, even if it is still far to reach. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews were brilliant together again. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Summary: The First Movie is Better!
Review: I loved the first Princess Diaries movie. It was funny, romantic, and just plain awesome. I was really excited when the 2nd movie came out on DVD. The previews looked pretty good, and it kind of helped that Kelly Clarkson was singing Breakaway in the movie. I thought it was going to be great.

Boy was I wrong. This movie absolutely SUCKED. It was the worst movie, I've ever seen. It's NOTHING like the book. Mia moves to Genovia and is going to become queen of Genovia soon. She has to marry someone in 30 days. So she picks this guy, who seems okay, according to her, and they get engaged. Then she CHEATS on him, for another person, who is a complete jerk. At the end of the movie, Mia doesn't get married to the the guy that she's supposed to get married to and makes this huge speech about why she shoudn't get married and that her grandma has ruled the country for years without a husband... blah blah blah. THE END.

The movie was extremely annoying. Like how Mia STOPS the parade because some little kid was being teased. And those annoying maids. And that bridal shower/slumber party. People from ages 2-9 will like this movie. If you're older than that, let's just say that you'll hate it.

Bottom line: This movie is terrible. DON'T waste your money on this movie.

Summary: God Awful!!
Review: I really struggled to find a way to put a positive spin on this bad film. The only star I can give credit where credit is due for is for Julie Andrews and her amazing comeback from a disastrous vocal cord surgery to sing in this film. Aside from that, this film was not funny, nor was it interesting. I never laughed once.

This is really a big problem with Hollywood studios nowadays. They see a successful formula and they try to capitalize and make a sequel. But along the way, they forgot to make a great script. There's nothing wrong with making money. But why on earth would you sell your soul for a bad storyline. The screenplay is 90 percent of your movie. Disney should have concentrated on that instead of hurrying a sequel. Don't bother with this god awful film!

And to those who gave this movie 5 stars to this trash, "What were you watching?"

Summary: GREAT!
Review: I think that this movie was the best! I am a huge fan of both the first and the secound Princess diaries movies, and all the books. I also have this movie and the first movie at home. In this movie Anne Hathaway does a wonderful job of playing Mia. I think that you could be any age to watch this movie. I found myself laughing many times, and yet the movie was also romantic. Another reason I liked this movie was because this is a modern day fairytale. I think that I have probably seen this movie a hundred times, and I know you will too! Mia[Anne Hathaway] has to get married in 30 days, or she loses the crown! Will Mia be able to get married and fall in love that soon? Or will she fall in love with her competition? Get this movie and find out! This movie is a real royal treat for anyone!

Summary: Book vs. Movie
Review: If anyone has read the book series than you will know that they are better than the movies. I personally like the book series better because they for one go into a lot more detail and they have better storie lines.Even though i am very excited about the new movie comming out, I wish they would have made the first and second movies related to the books.

I really do like the movies, but if you have read the book series than the movies are not as good. I am so excited to find out who Mia marrys in the second princess diaries movie! I wish too that the movie would have come out in movie theaters so then we could have seen the movie sooner!

Summary: Princess Diaries 2...Cute, Fun, & Charming..Need I say more?
Review: My husband and I watched The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement last night and, while it was a cute, lighthearted and fun movie (albeit silly--but that's part of the point), I was disappointed in it.

I had two main objections: First of all, there was very little character development, and, much more seriously, the movie presents a lighthearted and accepting view of infidelity.

First, I had expected to see a little more character development and gain in maturity in the characters (specifically Princess Mia), since there were supposed to be 5 years and a college education between the first movie and the sequel. But Mia was still basically the same immature, impulsive, often selfish girl she had been at the end of the first movie. Although she is supposed to be 21 in this movie, she still frequently acts like a preteen.

Sure, she had some moments of thinking of others more than herself, but primarily her actions seemed to be motivated either by hormones, selfishness, or just plain impulsiveness. Even her decision to make some sacrifices to be queen is based on "I want to be on that wall next to my father" and "I want my chance to make a difference," not on her love for Genovia or her belief that she is really the best choice for a ruler.

Mia made a comment at one point to her grandmother that "sometimes you just lose it!" but we never saw a situation in this movie where Mia was provoked and didn't lose it. I found myself wondering several times during the course of the movie exactly why most of the characters in the movie thought she would make a good ruler--I certainly wouldn't want an immature, spoiled, selfish and "preteen-ish" young adult who is completely incapable of controlling her temper and makes most of her decisions based on impulse running my country. She is a cute and fun character, but not one that you respect and certainly not one that would inspire confidence in me as one of her subjects.

Spoilers following

The most serious flaw in this movie, though, was the way it presented Mia's cheating on her fiance', whom she had chosen and was actually a very nice and honorable guy, although there were not a lot of "sparks". She spent much of the movie going off alone with, talking to, making eyes at and kissing a man other than her fiance', yet because there was no actual sex the movie presented it as harmless and that "nothing really happened".

There was a long-drawn-out scene in which Mia sneaked out the window (with the help and encouragement of her best friend and two maids) to meet with Andrew, the man who is not her fiance' and had earlier tried to steal her crown. They ride off into the forest to spend the night kissing and making out, and end up falling asleep and waking up in each others' arms with a blanket on top of them (where did that come from, BTW?) the next morning.

The movie actually presents this as being rather innocent and that "poor Mia" was set-up and not really at fault here, and there are ultimately no consequences to her betrayal of her fiance' because "nothing happened"--meaning that there was no actual intercourse. This woman who was engaged to be married the next day just spent the night making out with another man, but she "didn't really do anything wrong." That attitude really bothered me because it was a very real betrayal and disregard of everything from propriety and morals to everyone's feelings other than Mia's sexual/romantic impulses of the moment, and yet it was supposed to be a very sweet, romantic scene in which the viewers felt positively toward the characters.

I think that whole sub-theme really destroyed the point of the movie and made it much less enjoyable. Eventually Mia decides not to marry a man she doesn't really love and stands up for the fact that she doesn't need a man to rule well. But the way the movie portrays her as a hapeless female controlled by impulse and sexual attraction (even against her better judgement) undermines the positive message about women that the film tries to present.

Her motives would have been much more admirable and the statement much clearer and stronger if she hadn't had the love interest of Andrew having already come to fruition in the background. And the fact that she and Andrew pursued their relationship before Mia made the decision to break off her engagement really brings both characters' integrity into doubt. Princess Mia is certainly not a role model I would want my daughter emulating.

My favorite part of the movie was the developing relationship between Mia's grandmother (Julie Andrews) and her personal bodyguard. I also enjoyed the fun and lighthearted scenes of Mia interacting with her girlfriends and with the Genovian people.

For me, the fact that the writers and producers chose for Mia to wholeheartedly pursue a love interest with another man before, rather than after, she broke off her engagement ruined the movie. Simply reversing the timing of those two events would have made the movie much more palatable.

The movie The Wedding Planner, though on the surface it has more possibly objectionable elements (swearing, references to sex, etc.), actually handles the same themes in a way that ends up being morally uplifting and showing growth in the characters. While The Princess Diaries 2 presents the only person (Mia's Finance') who decides to keep his word and do the right thing as rather a stupid sop who is making an inane decision, The Wedding Planner presents the same type of moral and self-sacrificing actions as admirable and showing real strength and character.

I did enjoy the first movie, The Princess Diaries, and think it did a much better job of telling an interesting story while developing the characters well.

Summary: Another hit...
Review: The Princess Diaries 2 was not as good as the first one but it still stands up to other sequels because it is still a cute movie. Mia finally has graduated and it is five years later. She is having a party when she meets Nicholas and come to find out he could also be an err to the thrown. She then gets ticked off because in order for her to get the thrown she has to marry. Which she find unfair! So she goes out looking for a husband and along the way has her usual screw-ups which are still funny even in this one. She even has a sleep-over bachelorette party for princesses. And along the way to her marriage she is falling in love with Nicholas. She has to make a choice on which one she is going to pick and which one she likes better.

I think this movie is good and it is funny especially the more you watch it...I think I have seen it five times now and this last time I laughed almost the whole movie. I think it is a movie that has to grow on you.

**This movie is great for families and children**
