Rating: Summary: What was it? Review: I recently got this dvd and I dont know why. I think I saw the preview and always wanted to get it, and plus it was free. The guys from Super Troopers were in it too, but this movie had no real comedy at all. It was just like a cheap horror movie with a typical plot-horny guys and girls, drugs, stupid jokes, a lame killer, lots of deaths, if you know horror movies the plot is old and tiresome. Very unorignal, should be called a horror movie. This is far from a comedy movie, like everyone says. Maybe its a comedy because its so bad? Oh, and the unrated version? I cannot begin to imagine what is in that, this movie had so many cuss words and nudity but the deaths weren't detailed well, so they probably show that more I guess.
Rating: Summary: Uhh... hmm... Super Troopers was MUCH better Review: I'll try to make a shorter review...
"Super Troopers" was a damn fine hilarious movie. Highly underrated, I might add. Now our comedy team "Broken Lizard" churns up this "horror-comedy" called "Club Dread."
I guess you can call it a satire of slasher flicks, but we already have "Scream." I wanted to laugh in "Club Dread," I really did... but not one chuckle came up. It keeps the horror (badly, I might add), but doesn't live up to comedy.
Hmm... don't know what else to write. "Clud Dread" just isn't very good. You're better off with "Super Troopers."
Rating: Summary: this is a let down from The Broken Lizard crew Review: Super Troopers did a lot for me and it wasn't a classic but it was funny as hell. Zoom foward to Club Dread which in the complete end of it has stirred away from it's own pot. Broken Lizard gang brewed up a mix of flat jokes, gorey violence and some scantly revealing women. In conclusion if this is your cup of tea then go for it but it's a let down. Bill Paxton (Near Dark, the upcoming Thunderbirds) who plays Coconaut Pete is the only highlight in the movie. Brittney Daniel (tv's That 80's Show, Joe Dirt) plays Aerobics Amy has her moments. It's like a bad hangover.
Rating: Summary: Trying to keep my excitement under wraps!! Review: Super Troopers... Amazing. My favorite movie genre is comedy, and I love a lot of comedy movies; for instance, Dumb and Dumber, Zoolander, Me Myself & Irene, just to name a few. From the moment I saw Super Troopers, the others just fell into second place. Broken Lizard, the team behind this madness, are true genius comedians. What makes them so great though, is there ability to translate this comedy in to a film. With all of that being said, Club Dread promises to carry on the tradition of outrageously funny comedy... we can only all hope and pray that it is!
Rating: Summary: 5 stars for 5 funny guys Review: This movie is the shiznit. I know everyone says Super Troopers was better, but that's because they didn't think this would be a different movie. I like the way they were able to make such big character transitions for this. It really amazes me how people didn't like it because it was also a horror movie. They stepped into a territory that many can unsuccessfully stay in, but I think they really pulled it off. The characters and dialogue were pretty funny, especially Machete Phil. That scene surprised me. I couldn't believe what I had seen. These guys are the funniest group since Kids in the Hall and Trey Parker and Matt Stone. No movie scares me much anymore so I watched this to laugh, see some gore, and also, unexpectedly, see the diversity of characters they can play. I'm really surprised with Kevin Heffernan. He seemed natural as Farva, and then he is very smart in this one. I liked Putman because his humor was more of a subtle thing than blatantly obvious like the others. Him and Jenny was a hilarious running joke. The killer surprised me. I didn't expect it to be him. He really creeped me out. This movie is definitely worth a purchase, and also people should watch it like they have never seen Super Troopers. It can still be very entertaining. I hope to work with Broken Lizard one day. They inspired me to pursue my dream of making movies, one I had been debating over for a long time. Thanx guys if u ever read this review. Keep up the good work and I hope to see your next movie pretty soon.
Rating: Summary: Club Dreadful Review: Watching "Club Dread" I found it hard to believe that this movie was made by the same Broken Lizard comedy team that gave the world "Super Troopers." While the latter film was one of the funniest comedies of the last five years, "Club Dread" is so spectacularly unfunny that it makes you wonder if "Super Troopers" was a fluke. At its core, "Dread" seems a parody of slasher flicks in general and of "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" in particular. The killer on the loose at a tropical resort plotline is lifted directly from that earlier film. But the movie fails to elicit even a single chuckle. Part of the problem is that many scenes are way too violent for a comedy. In fact, the killings are generally played straight and are bloody enough to fit right into any modern slasher film. At the same time, all the lame jokes keep things from getting too serious. The end result is a movie that is schizophrenic in that it seems to want to work as a horror film AND as a comedy. Ultimately, "Club Dread" is too violent to be funny and too much of a wanna-be yukfest to be truly frightening. In trying to achieve two goals, the movie fails at both. The performances of actor/director Jay Chandrasekhar and the other members of Broken Lizard lack the anarchic glee and razor sharp wit that made "Super Troopers" a "must see and then see again" classic. Bill Paxton plays an always-sloshed Jimmy Buffet-style singer whose resort is the center of the action. One wonders if he wasn't drunk out of his mind, when he agreed to this role. I have high hopes for Broken Lizard and hopefully their third film outing will see them on surer footing. As for this movie, a better title would be "Club Dreadful."
