Rating: Summary: So Thrash! Review: I absolutely love this movie. I agree with the other reviewer - WHY is this not on DVD? I am waiting for it to come out on dvd so I can purchase it. This is one movie you don't want to miss. It is funny and sad at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Much Better Than I Expected Review: I avoided this movie when it was released because I couldn't imagine that a film based on the marital breakup of Nora Ephron and Carl Bernstein would interest me. Although I am an admirer of both these folks for their talents as writers, I had always agreed with Richard Burton when he said, when asked if he would be writing about his marriage and breakup with Elizabeth Taylor, that even though love might be dead, that it wasn't for sale. Be that as it may, this movie is certainly worth seeing. Although the plot is a little thin, there are some very funny moments. (Whether some of the events actually happened in the Bernstein/Ephron saga doesn't matter.) Any film directed by Mike Nichols, starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson, with cinematography by Nestor Amendros is well worth seeing.
Both Ms. Ephron and the viewer have the last laugh.
Rating: Summary: Romantic comedy at it's best! Review: I loved this movie! Streep and Nicholson have exellent chemistry. The script is very well written and the comic delivery couldn't be any better! This is a timeless love story.
Rating: Summary: Awesome movie Review: I saw 'Heartburn' for the first time in a long time last night on HBO. The movie itself - well, time has naturally disassociated it somewhat with the book, so my disappointment at the bleached-out film version of Ephron's tale (WASP-ified, cooking elements in very deep background) has faded away. Now, the story stands on its own, especially thanks to Streep's strong performance & the excellent Carly Simon music (especially the "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" tie-in). The last 15 minutes or so - really great stuff. The 'key lime pie in the face' scene continues to be a perfect cinematic moment. But here are three new reasons to watch - - "Hey, it's Kevin Spacey!" What a surprise to see him in what had to have been one of his first screen roles. - Eastern Airlines shots. That brings back a lot of memories for anyone who took the Shuttle on a regular basis. - Processing Meryl Streep's credit card *on the plane* with a old card imprinter. Wow! How times have changed.

Rating: Summary: It's coming to DVD July 6th!! Review: Isn't that just the greatest news...it was one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Fairly brilliant Review: Mike Nichols defied all odds by presenting two of the most unlikable lead characters (insecure whiner and philandering cad)in movie history and yet still created a wonderfully sharp and sad look at a doomed relationship. This is great stuff with strong turns by Streep and Nicholson and a screamingly funny Catherine O'Hara in a small role. Those early negative reviewers completely missed the point of this one. Alas, Ephron's biting touches here softened considerably with each of her successive films.
Rating: Summary: You have to see this movie in Spanish!! Review: Spain has been known for being the country that dubs movies best in Europe. The Spanish title for this movie just couldn't be better: "Se acabo el pastel" ("No More Cake Left"). If you see the movie (especially its ending), you'll understand why!!
Rating: Summary: Gets Better With Time Review: The first time I saw this film was when it came out in 1986, and at the time I was terribly disappointed. Didn't like the film at all, thought it was amateurish and pretentious. But then I watched it recently on DVD, and realized that it was a really good film - performances were all really good, I liked seeing the DC scenery, and the directing by Mike Nichols was wonderfully subtle.
Despite the fact that both Nicholson and Streep can sometimes be overpowering, and that Nicholson did get a bit hammy at times in this (I still can't abide the scene where he sings), I found both of their performances to be deep and nuanced. The co-stars were good too, added a lot, and I especially enjoy Catherine O'Hara's portrayal of a gossip. Carly Simon's singing really does set the tone well for this movie, which is definitely worth watching. And if you don't like it the first time, watch it again in a year or two, and I'll bet you'll re-appraise it more positively.
Rating: Summary: So Thrash! Review: This movie is one of the most phenomenal pitures I have ever seen! It is highly ignored and often looked over, which I have never understood. My confusion is due mostly in part to genius performances by both Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. The writing and acting are superb. Heartburn must come out on DVD.
