Rating: Summary: Good news: NTSC DVD available. Bad news: It's censored. Review: An NTSC version of the director's cut of Betty Blue is available. Apparently the DVD is a South Korean release. Others have reviewed the film itself, and my five-star rating is based on the film. It's excellent. The DVD is censored. "Below the waist" shots of unclothed people have an annoying spot over them. Not that I wish to see the actors' naughty bits, but the spots are very distracting and I think detract from the quality of the film. And the censorship is just silly. This is a film intended for adult audiences, and I believe adults can handle seeing such things as exist below the waist. Prevously, I've wondered why certain things happen, and why other things that should happen don't. The director's cut clears these questions up by including the scenes that explain others. Some of these, while helpful to the story, are a bit dull and slow the pace too much; others don't. Of course, I'd rather see what the director intended than what the Studio demands. I wish for a U.S. release of Betty Blue on DVD, uncensored and director's cut. You can bet that [website] will have my order as soon as it's available.
Rating: Summary: The sexiest most tragic love story ever!! Review: Betty Blue is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen..I've made 5 of my friends watch it and at first they bemoan the subtitles but within 2 minutes they are all but forgotten. I'm not a softy but it's impossible to get through this movie dry eyed. Great soundtrack to. A ten+++++! some pretty racy sex scenes are included as well.
Rating: Summary: A must-own for french movie cinephiles Review: I picked this DVD up a while back, but was so used to seeing the original 2-hour version that I almost cringed when I paid for it. How much better could it be, right? I was pleasantly surprised; even though the 'interview' portion of the extras is nothing but Korean Text, the film itself has never looked better. And as a previous reviewer said, there are the little black-outs of various scenes involving nudity, and the reason for this is simply puritanism, and heaping doses of hypocrisy. Korean 'erotica' is stuck on Japan's old regulations that genitalia may not be shown. By and large, however, you won't mind it, as the film is quite excellent on its own merits. There are longer films out there, like "La Belle Noiseuse", but at this running length (just like the director's cut of "Once Upon A Time In America"), time flies by faster than you might believe. Jean-Hughes Anglade and Beatrice Dalle are one of the great screen couples, and predate the ultra-lame, ultra-tame Drew Barrymore vehicle "Mad Love" by about a decade. Overall, a great DVD transfer, and a joy to own.
Rating: Summary: 3 HOUR BETTY BLUE ON DVD IN UK, WHY NOT USA? Review: This amazing and compelling story about two crazy kids (well, one might be a little crazier than the other) is availaible in a three hour director's cut on DVD in England. Some enterprising distributor should make it available here in the colonies as well. It is an unforgettable film about the pathology of obsessive love and creativity. You will long remember Zorg and Betty. I'm surprised someone hasn't turned it into a musical. It's very Sondheim.
Rating: Summary: psychiatry class Review: This film is about a woman with borderline personality disorder and his boyfriend Zorg
