Summary: Wildly Entertaining, and Not a Spoof!
Review: "Club Dread" was one of the most entertaining, funny, and scary movie that I have seen in a long time. It also kept me guessing, right untill the very end. I found it to be rude, crude, and vicious fun. It is the second film in the comedy troop "Broken Lizard" who made a film about two years ago called "Super Troopers" which I have never seen. I almost gave this movie five stars, but was stopped because of the first scene. I thought that the first scene was a little dull, and after that I was scared that the entire movie would be a waste of time. I was very very wrong. The movie stars Bill Paxton, who I thought was great in this as Coconut Pete, Brittany Daniel from "Joe Dirt," and the leader of Broken Lizard, Jay Chandrasekhar, who played a tennis instructor who thinks that his playing is great.

The movie takes place on Pleasure Island resort in Costa Rica. Run by former former rock star Coconut Pete. He has young people come and have a good time, away from phones, and other technology, and wants his visitors to have a good time with the staffers. The staffers include Putnam, the tennis instructor, Sam, the captain of the "Fun Police" and Jenny, the aerobics instructor who has a reputation of sleeping with many of the staff members. Jenny becomes interested with the new masseur Lars whose has hands like magic, much to the dismay of Putnam. All of the staff members are ready to have fun for the week, untill one of the staff members is killed. More and more start to die, and they are killing people based on the lyrics of Coconut Pete's songs. Pete hired the security guard Hank to help them find out who is killing everybody, as they try and survive the week at the resort, all while suspecting everybody including each other.

"Club Dread" sounds like a spoof, but it is not. It is pure horror/comedy. I thought that it was scarier then recent horror films like "Freddy vs Jason" and "Dawn of the Dead" and I liked how it was hilarious as well. It wasn't to long in the end, and I felt that the entire money was worth the money that it spent. I don't see how it didn't make alot of money, but it will probally do much better when it comes out on video. I thought Bill Paxton was a big highlight as Coconut Pete, and he was hilarious. It has graphic violence, and graphic nudity, but it was still a great film. If it wasn't for the beginning, it would be a five star movie, and mabye one of the best of the year. I am awaiting the next Broken Lizards comedy.

ENJOY!

Rated R for violence/gore, sexual content, language and drug use.

Summary: Club Dreadfully Awful
Review: (ZERO) While this movie has some funny moments, there is no plot--does not even work as a parody. A group of teenagers are partying on a secluded island. One by one, the hosts and hostesses die. A very graphic finale goes too far...though the final gag is funny. Ultimately a worthless waste of my time and money.

Summary: Not that good
Review: after seeing "super troopers" and the comedic skills displayed by the broken lizard writers and this acting group, i expected far more of "club dread" than was delivered. The few jokes that there were are simply spread too thin and are not nearly as clever as they could have been, and even the story simply lacks staying power. do yourself a favor, find something else to laugh at, you'll be wasting your time with this one. hopefully they'll do better next time.

Summary: Lighten Up!
Review: After seeing the scouring reviews of "Club Dread" and multiple single-star ratings, I had to submit my two-cents worth. Okay, so this movie did not make millions at the box office and did not sweep the Academy Awards; it did, however, make me laugh outloud quite a bit. Who cares if "Club Dread" has a plot that a first-grader could determine? This is one of those movies that I classify as "So-silly-it's-funny" movies. I like this movie because I did not have to think too much and pay close attention to every single detail. If you want a movie that you have to watch a thousand times to get the point, this is not the movie for you. If you want a movie that is a true comedy with no symbolism or metaphors, then give "Club Dread" a shot. The actors are not out to impress the Academy, but instead are out to truly entertain.

Summary: This is every bit as good as Super Troopers
Review: As one of the few who saw this in theatres I can honestly say that his is every bit as funny, clever and enjoyable as Super Troopers. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Summary: Saw it last night....
Review: at the University of Pittsburgh's free sneak preview. All I have to say is wow! It was amazing. It is slightly scary (not expected) and overwhelmingly, extremely funny (more than expected). It doesn't play off of Super Troopers' success at all. This movie has a life of its own and is worth seeing. I love it. All I want to know if when does it come out on DVD?

the worst part of the movie is the last 10 min... u have to watch it for yourself it gets kind of annoying....

Summary: It depends
Review: Club Dread is everything Broken Lizard sought it out to be, a foolish, slapstickish spoof on horror with lots of naked chicks. I ather enjoyed the movie, but it does not mean you will. First of all, you need to completely clear your mind of any memories of Super Troopers before viewing. CD is nothing like ST. Don't compare them. I think the movie efficiently makes good fun of the horror genre with all of the silly horror movie cliches. The best performance is done by Bill Paxton as Coconut Pete, a guy who owns a resort island called Pleasure Island. Everyone is partying around the clock until they find a killer is looses on the island and they are completely cut off from the rest of the world. Does this kind of plot sound familiar? One complaint; Why didn't they release the R rated and Unrated versions at the same time?!? Now i'm stuck with the r version.

Summary: A Great Follow Up to the Greatness that was Super Troopers
Review: First of all, if you went into this thinking this was going to be every bit as comedic as its predecessor, then I might understand why you didn't enjoy this. It was touted for as long as I can remember as "The first HORROR movie from Broken Lizard." And I was very pleasently surprised when there was actually some very cool horror elements at work here. I felt the comedy kept the pacing from dragging in some parts, and really added to the satirical aspect of horror seen after Scream breathed new life into the genre. The result of blending the horror and comedy was a great experience. The introduction of everyone as a suspect getting off the boat was freaking classic! And the very first sex scene, "Well, we can at least go inside that old mausoleum!" BRILLIANT. Kevin Hefernan makes quite a turn-around from his "Love-to-hate-him" character Farva, to play the possibly crazy love interest in Dread. The rest of the supporting cast were fun and quirky, and the parody of Jimmy Buffet was very funny. The scene around the campfire, "From then on he was known as...Machetti...Phil!" Is definately not to be missed. So, if you buy or rent (and i suggest you at least see it), go into it knowing that it was more for horror than comedy. I think you should enjoy it either way, unless you don't have an ounce of entertainable quality in your body. Oh, and the ending is classic 70's horror movie fare. Looking forward to The College Row (I believe that's the title), and Super Troopers 2, providing they find funding (it really sucks to have opened opposite Jesus...it doesn't take a theologian to figure out who was going to win that bout.) Keep it up BL.

Summary: ...not what I expected
Review: First of all, make no mistake that these guys are entertaining and hilarious, and if marketed more towards the horror end, I would have given this movie a better rating. THIS MOVIE MAY NOT BE TO THE LIKING OF A SUPER TROOPERS FAN. This is essentially a slasher movie with a sense of humor, NOT a comedy with some gore. The killings are more reminiscent of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and it almost overpowers the feeling that you are watching a Broken Lizard movie. I wouldn't have been so disappointed by it, had everything I had heard about it was more accurate I suppose. If you like these guys, RENT IT!
