Summary: Couldn't decide what it wanted to be
Review: Someone on this movie wanted to do a sweet little Woody Allen type movie, that examines two apparently unsuited characters and then sees if they can work together. Unfortunately someone else, perhaps the producers with an eye to profit, wanted to rip-off the politically incorrect moves of the Farrelly brothers and others. So we get sweetness next to jokes about needing to get to a toilet and not being able to, about - yawn - blind ferrets who bash into things, about messing one's pants (a different character) and a few other utterly dismal and unoriginal gross out humor scenes. It works to the movie's detriment, especially during a storm scene where you're more worried the director will find it funny to squash the ferret than you are amused or moved by what's actually going on.

It's also not a well written script. It took way to long to get to the point of Stiller's disastrous honeymoon. And you're kind of surprised when it ends as the main two characters simply don't seem to have spent enough time together. Still I give it two points because it does offer a few laughs.

Summary: Well, it looked good from the trailer...
Review: The main problem with this movie IS the trailer. (Also known as a 'Preview' by some.) After having watched the trailer, the movie looked promising enough to see. Unfortunatly, the trailer not only showed most of the funnier moments of the movie, it showed most of the plot including the end!!! When the movie was over, I felt cheated. I thought, "That was it?" The only reason I give the movie such a generous three stars is that I bet it would have been much more enjoyable had I not had the higher expectations given me by the trailer.

Ben Stiller did his usual good job. In fact, one of the few interesting parts to this movie was Stiller's character's growth, and Stiller portrayed that nicely. Jennifer Aniston was also good. It was nice to see her playing someone other than Rachel on 'Friends'. And, she managed to differentiate those two characters enough so that I did not find myself saying, "Hey! Ben Stiller is the guest star on 'Friends'." (I understand that she was absolutely fabulous in 'The Good Girl' but I did not see it so can't comment.) As for the supporting players, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a stand-out. He played slovenly deliciously low! (If, by the way, you REALLY want to see him at his subtle best, rent 'State and Main'. Absolutely wonderful acting in a 5-star movie. But I digress.) Alec Baldwin, Debra Messing, Hank Azaria, and especially the talented and underused Bryan Brown were all fine.

The bottom line for this movie, if you've seen the trailer, skip the movie.

Summary: Here Comes Ben Again!
Review: These days, it's almost impossible not to come across Ben Stiller's movie. Some of the movies he starred in were duds such as the forgettable Zoolander. However, he redeemed himself in Meet the Parents, There's Something About Mary, The Royal Tennabaum. Whereas Adam Sandler was the sort of character that lived on the edge & quite overbearing sometimes, Ben Stiller always played the stereotype victim characters that we would vouch for. It's commendable that he would do magic to lacklustre scripts. Despite that Along Came Polly was a predictable movie, Ben Stiller & Jennifer Aniston pulled the movie through. They simply shined. Ain't that amazing they could make a mediocre movie enjoyable to watch? Perhaps, people undermined the depth of these comedians but in actuality, Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston have had depths. Not forgetting to mention the wonderful Debra Messing (Grace from "Will & Grace"), the memorable Hank Azaria ("Abu" from the Simpsons) with his hilarious French accent, Hoffman (from "Drunk Punch Love", "Boogie Night", "Talented Mr Ripley"), Bryan Brown (playing an Aussie!), Alec Baldwin (trying to be funny (?)) . This movie is patchy but amusing to watch. Not entirely forgettable but if you were a fan of Ben Stiller, don't miss this one!

Summary: The FERRET steals the show!
Review: This is a very good movie -- entertaining and fun, along the lines of Meet the Parents -- and best of all, it has a positive view of a ferret as a pet. Ferrets are adorable, loveable and smart -- and Along Came Polly shows that! Stiller and Aniston and Hoffman are all excellent, as well!

Summary: funnier than it has the right to be
Review: This is sort of an off-the-shelf romantic comedy in which Stiller and Anniston craft themselves according to other characters they've played. Anniston is Polly Prince, a free spirited type with no roots. Stiller is Ruben Feffer, a risk averse whiz in actuarial science targeted for acts of mass embarrassment - including being dumped by his wife (Debra Messing) on his honeymoon. Emotionally devastated, Ruben connects with Polly, a girl he idolized as a kid. However, her free ways disgust him (she happily lives a life of disarray, of unset schedules and lost keys). Rather than the valor you'd get in epic poetry, Ruben proves his love for Polly by sticking with her through 2 months of walking her ferret, eating spicy food, repeated vomiting and ceaselessly irritated bowels. What Ruben can't quite divorce himself of is the element of risk itself - being his bane and her reason detre.

This was an especially thin story, one of those movies that can only rear its head in theaters between new-years and Memorial Day. It works though mostly because Anniston and Stiller work up their talents (if you don't like Stiller enough to watch him sweat like a pig, or projectile vomit, then this is not your romantic comedy). "Polly" also gets some surprising mileage from supporting stars - Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a former 80's brat-packer actor who doesn't know that his star has passed, Bryan Brown as a hazard magnet Feffer is reviewing for an insurance policy, Alec Baldwin as Feffer's boss, and Hank Azaria as a sun-fried SCUBA instructor who gets things rolling by breaking Feffer's heart.

Summary: This movie was funny
Review: This movie had it's funny parts and then it's really funny parts. Overall I think it was a good movie. Ben Stiller almost makes anything funny. He's a good actor. It was pretty entertaining, I recommend it

Summary: An average movie
Review: This movie has a great cast and the script was probably hilarious, but the actual movie is extremely average. It has all the right parts from the leading cast of Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller, and the wacky friend played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman to the scuba instructor that steals Stiller's fiance on their honeymoon played by Hank Azaria. All these parts thrown together are amusing but don't elevate the movie like they should.

Ruben and Polly (Stiller and Anniston) are exact opposits. Ruben analyzes risk for a living and Polly is a carefree waitress. The movie plays off this concept to the very end with Ruben falling for Polly in spite of the risks she forces him to take.

The highlight of the movie for me was seeing the beautiful Debra Messing without having to actually watch Will and Grace. And Hank Azaria is fun to watch ouside of his guest shots on friends and doing the voices on the Simpsons.

This movie is worth renting, but not buying. The parts for a great romantic comedy are there, but they just don't add up to anything special.

Summary: MY FAVORITE!
Review: This movie is soooooooo great. It got bad reviews saying it was just 'a stereotypical romantic comedy.' Yeah it's a romantic comedy but the best one I've seen since Bruce Almighty.(I'm a hugantic Jennifer Aniston fan.) Not only does this movie have two amazing leads it has an amazing group of supporting roles-I especially loved Philip Hoffman he was so funny I peed my pants a little tee-he-he. Hank Azaria also made me fall out of my seat with laughter. Jennifer Aniston is outstanding as usual and Ben Stiller a hoot as always. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it!
