Summary: one of the best gay romantic film!
Review: The first time i saw the movie years ago, i fell in love with it. The story was simple yet very powerful and theres a lot of symbolism in the movie. The acting is very natural and if their story happens to me, i might do and feel the same thing as what Wei does. I love the cell phone scene where they exchange I love you to each other. That was very romantic! I cant wait for this dvd version to be released.

Summary: I like it very much!!
Review: The story has a good plot with a little bit comedy put into it. I like the Wai Tung character, he's charming. This is definitely one of my favorite movies.

Summary: A Banquet for the Soul
Review: This engaging film reminded me of Mexican director Jaime Humberto Hermosillo's classic 1986 film, "Dona Herlinda and her Son" ...interesting to compare the Latin and Asian versions--in particular, "Banquet"'s (Confucianesque) focus on the father, versus "Herlinda"'s (Catholic/Latinesque)focus on the mother. Also, gay sex is more graphically portrayed/suggested in the Mexican movie. But most importantly, the similar story lines are sweet, touching--and characters charmingly acted. Both are great entertainment, as they include cultural themes such as food, friends, festivity, traditions and generational gaps from their respective regions, making both movies as palatable to any viewer as a dish of nachos or shrimp fried rice. See both movies, and bon apetit! (To fellow gay viewers: Winston Chao is really to die for--oh were he really gay and available...it is my dream)

Summary: Great film!
Review: This film by Ang Lee really was fantastic. Compared to his later film(s) Eat, Drink, Man, Woman, Sense & Sensibility, and the Ice Storm. I think it shows off his directorial talents to the fullest.

Summary: Beauty and the Feast
Review: This film is simply beautiful in terms of its characterisation and its honest portayal of the the cutural differences between Eastern and Western societies. It has all the ingredients of a classic movie with hilarious situations, loveable main characters and poignant situations. I was lucky enough to see this in the UK when it was first released but the DVD version gave me the opportunity to revist it.

I was particuarly moved by the scene where the mother asks Wei-Wei to wait because she suspects what is going on and another where the Taiwanese father finally lets his secret slip with Gao Wei-Tung's lover, Simon. Ang Lee does this sort of thing so well.

An absolute classic that I will treasure forever.

Summary: Good comedy succeeds without trashing gay or Chinese culture
Review: This is a cute movie, full of chuckles. The lead actors in the movie, Winston Chao and some White guy, are awful. Fortunately the direction and surrounding cast are good. A solid script somehow manages to navigate the intersection of traditional-normative Chinese culture and normative American gay-male culture without grossly insulting either. The film never really explores the two cultures or takes high risks, but hey--it's a comedy, and this one is good for some laughs.

Summary: Great for those with an asian background.
Review: This is a great movie about the merge of two cultures. It's about two men, who are partners in life. On of those men is chinese. Because of his mother's constant match-making and his father's need to have a baby, the protangonist is forced to marry. This movies tells about the ups and downs that many asians parents (like mines) have problems when dealing with having a "happy" child. I greatly recommend for those people who want to understand the mix of cultures.

Summary: A Family Coming Out Movie.
Review: This is a great movie about what can happen when we lie to our families. It is a wonderful movie with great acting, and plots. Movie moves along at a good pace. I came out to my family after the US Navy. I am out of the closet, and this movie confirms my thoughts on being honest with my folks. I find both leading men to be quite attractive, too! It could have done without the pregnancy though.

Summary: Charming movie!
Review: This is a hilarious film! I love the whole wedding scene. This covers many different topics and I absolutely loved it.

Summary: First rate treatment of a contemporary situation.
Review: This is a well acted, well developed movie about a gay couple, one white and one Chinese, dealing with the pressure from the parents for the Chinese guy to get married. They set up a fake wedding which turns into even more trouble for them, but all works out when they come clean.
