Summary: Painfully Humiliating?? NO Painfully Funny?? YES
Review: I think alot of people missed the point of this movie. It is not just about one of his books - its about all of his books. The point was not whether he actually was in a restroom with Nixon but rather he said he was and some one put it in the movie. Bill Murray does a great job of playing Thompson. You just have to know what is going on before you see the movie. Just reading one book will not help you. This movie is a cult classic. The more you have read from the man the better the movie is. Fact or fiction doesn't matter - the point is that it is just plain funny. Just the way the stories were originally written.

Summary: PAINFUL, HUMILIATING
Review: As one TRULY familiar with Thompson, I assure you that if you've ACTUALLY read his FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL, you'll want to avoid this like the HIV virus. It is awful. I can't even begin to usher anything good to say about this blasphemy, except that it closed as soon as it opened theatrically. Lets get something straight: Thompson attended very few of the events he reported on - most were alcohol induced hallucinations courtesy of ROOM SERVICE, HOLIDAY INN. His journalistic submissions were as a matter of actual fact, essays on his tele-pathic - like visions of the event. And to that extent, Thompson was (and is) a genius! That this tome would even be presented on-screen as "...really happened...", is most absurd. Case in point: I for one pico-second refuse to believe the Secret Service would delegate unfettered access to thier ATTACK LIMO (including the trunk!), to a man like Hunter Thompson. Nor can I digest his conversing at the urinal with President Nixon. Reporters do not smoke cigs and drink Bloody Mary's in the courtroom. Not even back then. All-in-all, a right wing effort to discredit one of the finest satirists of this century. Losersville.

Summary: check out this movie. im talking high quality good time
Review: If your a fan of Hunter, your promised a good time with this flick. It is an older movie, and has a lower budget then fear and loathing in las vegas but shows true gonzo journalism. Order this now and change the way you think, and have tons of laughs along the way

Summary: Why did they cast Bill Murray?
Review: While this movie may be more "believeable" than Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, it was a poorly directed film with awful choices for casting the characters. I mean, Bill Murray as a Gonzo journalist? I kept thinking "Groundhog Day", and Saturday Night Live everytime I saw him. And I don't think I have to say anything about to choice of the casting of the attorney. If you've seen the movie, then enough said about it. While this movie will probably be viewed more in 98-99 due to Fear and Loathing's success, don't expect it to impress you much, and if you thought Fear and Loathing had no plot [which it did], then don't look for one in this movie.

Summary: Good But Try Fear And Loathing First
Review: While Bill Murray proves to be an excellent Hunter S. Thompson. Peter Boyle completely misses the part of Hunter's Companion. If you Hated Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, you won't like this one, but if you liked F&L in L.V. you'll be glad to see what is a beautiful companion piece. Not great, but has its moments of Hilariousness.

Summary: 4-stars for Murray, as for the rest well...
Review: Bill Murray plays Hunter S. Thompson perfectly (with perhaps more hair than was actually necessary!) in this awkward 1980 film, based loosely on some of Thompson's works from "The Great Shark Hunt" (1979). While Thompson fans may appreciate this one for it's cynical humour and dry wit, the film goes basically nowhere, and leaves the viewer wondering what in the hell is the point to all of this! Peter Boyle's performance (especially in comparison to Bencio DelToro's) as HST's Samoian attorney, Oscar DeAcosta, is awful!! Overall, the movie is worth at least one viewing, for Murray's A-calibre performance, but other than that the flick is an unfortunate celluloid waste. Try "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998) directed by Terry Gilliam. Johnny Deep, as HST, pales in comparison to Murray as Thompson, but the film is 110% better. Good luck and happy "Hunting."

Summary: Hunter S Thompson to a tee!!
Review: All I can say is that Bill Murray was hilarious in his portrayal of Dr. Thompson. Personally, I emjoyed Johnny Depp's rendition in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas more, but Murray did an excellent job all the same. Movie producers need to make more films about Hunter...he is hilarious.

Summary: An interesting look at journalism's more intense characters
Review: For all the fans of the amphetimene injected zaniness of FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, this film may be a let down. It takes a slightly calmer and more believable look at the life of Hunter S. Thompson (well played by Bill Murray) and the borderline criminal adventures he has with his attorney Dr. Gonzo (Peter Boyle). The film doesn't offer much insight on the drive of this journalistic maniac, but it is interesting to watch this entertaining look at journalism's more bizarre history.

Summary: Do Not Buy Universal Studios UPC 096895507533
Review: Took the advice of warning not to buy the DVD version & STILL ended up with a rescored soundtrack. Painful to watch despite being one of the funniest movies out there. I curse the greedy souless schmuck behind this artistic desecration. The box even "boasts a record score...hit-crammed soundtrack." Hey, you heartless bastard, may you wake up in a pile of rabid weasels to an endless tape-loop of "You light up my Life!"
